MissingLink Wrote:There is an awful lot of conflicting information going around. The SW thread is saying that the PW is still going out PLAIN TEXT, yet others have said that the login page at least is a secure encrypted one using 'Go Daddy' CA or some such. So who is right?
I'm trying to figure out if changing my already strong PW is a good idea or a bad one. No one is going to crack or brute force a long mixed up PW, and PW are not being reset. So that means that they are either being intercepted, or bypassed. Changing the PW could be exactly the wrong thing to do, especially since someone said that the PW change page is NOT protected.
That's EXACTLY where I stand.
At first I thought all those people were just keylogged, but nah. There is more to this than that
TOO many people have been getting hacked recently, and that scares the crap out of me
I don't know if changing my current-strong PW is a good thing to do, or can harm,
that's why I was glad the guy in the upper posts asked whether they have changed their password before getting hacked, but I couldn't find a definite answer,
I'm still very confused about this whole thing...

Well.. I just got hacked. I was going to lock my Ele Staff 7 later in the day too after I went to the grocery store and CVS.
I changed my password in the first week of August. Luckily I had locked the majority of my other items weeks ago, but I still wanted to AEE this Ele Staff. I had it at 5 stars and wanted to get two more.... But that won't be happening now.. Wonderful. But I guess it leave me more time to focus on my school work.
Ugh..

Not to sound heartless (i was hacked too), but i'm glad to see it's a widespread problem. This is much more than just lack of user security. At this point one has to assume there is something worse at hand.

I kind of agree. I was hacked while I was inactive over about 2 months and I came back to see a bucket load of people had been hacked, too. I kind of feel a bit consolidated to know that the flaw was from a fault not of my own, a massive exploit has been found, and Nexon are really the lackluster dystopian corporation they are portrayed to be.

Amazing how this happened to a close friend of mine just now. The EXACT same things you mentioned are happening in El Nido, too.

Although I don't usually post, I'd just like to add to the "list" or contention of results here..
I was hacked yesterday in the afternoon. However, I usually have an AFK shop set up 15-20 hours a day, on my mule. However, by 6PM I had crashed (i.e. as if someone D/C hacked me) and did not log on again until 10PM. When I logged
on my main, I found my crappily scrolled BFC / 10att Work Gloves and Evolving Ring II Lv.17 gone, with 170 of my 200M
gone. For some odd reason, I was also in the PPQ lobby. (Perhaps the hacker wanted to play my character.. although
I'm very crappy for a level 165 Buccaneer.)
The next day, I lost the remaining 30M and my 4% STR sneakers. However, the hacker did not touch my mule (with the shop) that had 4 hearts newly made and 90M. My character was left in the FM..
Although I admit I have not changed my password in perhaps 3 months, I have never told anyone anything in regards to my account - my name was also not on the MTS list, and I did not log on my main character for weeks. It's quite saddening to see my 5 year "career" on this game all go to waste..
(Not to mention, I can't access my e-mail at the moment. So, the hacker can basically play my account for however long he/she wants... sigh.)

One of my sisters' friends' got hacked today after the unscheduled SC. One of them listed off everything that was taken and the hacker got around 7-8bil off of the account. The friend hasn't touched Maple, nor Nexon's website for that matter, since February of this year.
Every character was stripped of everything that didn't require a P/SoK and only 400k Mesos was left on one character.

Any FM room you were in? The person who hacked my friend had everything left on his mules, too.

When I had Maplestory on, I had logged onto my mule who had a shop set up at Channel 1 FM 14. (Or, at least one of the Perion FM's.)
I had disconnected, and logged on my main character who was at the PPQ lobby (don't know why..) having been hacked.
The next day I logged on my main character, it was in one of the Henesys FM's having lost its leftover 30m. I also found 3
arrows in my inventory. (Which makes similar sense to other stories here)
I don't know why I was in the PPQ lobby however..

Hacker probably looked for an unpopular area for easy drop trade.

Will these hackings ever end? Or are doomed to ask yourselves "have I been hacked yet?" everytime we log on our accounts?

Bleh.
Looking at the Nexon forums, it looks like Nexon has no plans as of yet to patch the security hole (whatever it is) nor compensate the victims. In truth, I hope neither of which happens. Not because I want everybody to share the feeling of remorse that the victims have, but so that Nexon will finally be pushed into a corner and do something about it. This farce has gone on too long.

I wonder how soon is "really really really soon" in Nexonian terms, considering it's already been 6 days since that post.
Also note she's talking about "helping those who have had their account compromised", not about preventing further hackings.
Seems Nexon either has no clue how these hackings are done, or preventing them requires a really deep change in their architecture, which they can't do within a reasonable timeframe.
Very encouraging.

QFT. Its really sad this isn't even the first time mass account hackings have occurred. In addition we have aggressive duping (NX:meso ratio doubling in Windia)and now I'm hearing about a possible exp exploit? Lovely.
Lol what can you even do competitively in this game anymore? Just can't beat hackers whoo!

As for Nexon's response (and Hime's supposed solution on the forums..)
For what its worth, I submitted a ticket about being hacked. Best to cover all bases - within one or two business days, my ticket's status was switched to a "Work In Progress". Not sure if that means anything, but yeah.

After a month wait... My ticket finally changed from "Open" to "Work in Progress"...
Don't know if that's Nexon's another buy-time policy or they really are looking on my ticket...

Oh I just see that... Seems like it is Nexon's buy-time policy then =.="

If it's like Blizzard terms: Soon™
