BBC Wrote:World Athletics 2011: Bolt disqualified as Blake wins gold

Athletics World Championships 2011

Venue: Daegu, South Korea
Date: 27 August - 4 September

Usain Bolt Bolt was bidding to become a six-time World Championships gold medallist

Jamaica's Usain Bolt was disqualified from the final of the men's 100m at the World Athletics Championships as countryman Yohan Blake took gold.

Defending champion Bolt caused shock in the stadium in Daegu as he came out of his blocks well before the gun.

Blake clocked 9.92 seconds to lead home American Walter Dix (10.09) and 2003 world champion Kim Collins (10.10).

But much of the talk will centre on the fate of Bolt, who still has the 200m and 4x100m to come.

Bolt was his usual relaxed self before the race, preening when his name was announced, and the outcome will no doubt lead people to question both his preparation and the false-start rule.

More to follow.

And I wanted to see new WR D: This totally ruined this cup for me. Stupid system.

DAMMIT

You can hear all those camera's clicking right before the real shot... so annoying...

Just ban all electronic stuff / camera's for the audience I would say... just like in the movies.

This sport is about 1/100's of a second, you can't delay at the start.

I saw a good new idea for the new false start rule. Just let the sprinters leave "around" the same time and if someone leaves early, add some 1/100 seconds more into the time of the runner. With the modern technology, that should be moderately fast.

With modern technology, you can track each and every one of them and get their exact times even if they all leave at different times. An entire sport is based around that general idea, sailing. Boats all start at different times based on class and size, due to the fact that boats capable of destroying any smaller boat's time compete together with them.

Or an FML entry.
"So, I was at a track championship earlier today. I was in the 100m final, and I swear that the starter hit the gun, so I started. Turns out, it was some jackass in the stands. So I got disqualified, no second chance.
Oh, and my name's Usain Bolt btw.
FML."
