In Singapore they either don't understand American English or think you're making fun of them when you attempt Singlish. This is why I hate Singapore for the most part. I'm glad I can speak basic Mando.

I tried asking my friends to speak in proper english, not singlish.. The reply I got was "this is internet language, so no point in speaking proper english"

The Facebook page isn't even that bad compared to in-game lingo. It's simply atrocious, none of them can actually speak properly English, the current "trend" of insults range from insulting your parents to insults in dialect which 99% of them don't even understand but blindly follow the crowd. Any attempt to converse intelligently in English is shot down with the pathetic excuse of "

Yo,
This is CHARLESsssss from MapleSEA.Aquila, long time lurker, first post here ![]() Re the comments on other servers/game hosts being better than your own, I guess we always feel that "the grass is greener" elsewhere. We are always envious of other servers' new contents, exclusive contents. I guess we should be happy that after all these years, Asiasoft is still hosting MSEA, Nexon is still hosting GMS. (who hosts KMS? Wizet?) - unlike some servers that discontinued their services. Imagine the amount of time/effort/money spent! Whatever content we wish for, it would come (someday), unless it's something exclusive. And re our language proficiency, in game and @ fb pages, I guess most regions do have our own (unique) slangs / jargons / lingo. I mean, when internet user groups / SIG first started, the usage of "lol", "brb", "afk", and even " " or " ", seems foreign to most, but it is now widely accepted. "Singlish" is something unique to Singapore, and most foreigners do know our "lah", "leh", "walao", etc .. so, I'm not sure whats the issue here..Anyways, sorry for the rant, hope we can all learn to accept each other. Asiasoft HUAT AH !!!!

Chocolater Wrote:I plead not guilty, unless you're telling me speaking the truth is generalising. I refer you to this: Chocolater Wrote:It's simply atrocious, none of them can actually speak properly English, The above can be considered an absolute term. If that's not generalising, I don't know what is. I, for one, DO speak proper English online (unless I'm in-game; I only type in proper sentences in-game on serious occasions) and I do post on the Facebook page as well. Apart from myself, I have seen some other people typing in proper English on the Facebook page.

In my opinion, I'm sure they are players who can actually speak proper English, and btw, it's 'proper' instead of 'properly'. Please do not generalize the players. MapleSEA is dedicated to both Singapore and Malaysia players. You should know (I assume that you live in Singapore) that Singapore is a country where English is not the only language used for conversations. Also, Malaysia's official language is Malay. As for me, I tend to speak with a mixture of slangs, Chinese and English language, etc. I always try my best to speak (or type, whatever it is) understandable English in the forums. Well, it's a game. Why so serious? lol.

The main point I'm trying to put across is that players simply cannot converse with each other on an understandable level of English. Take for example, an excerpt from a sentence of a random player i was talking to just hours ago. " u humji dog no parent teach? Wuji come meet at xxxxxxx" .(We were training together at MP3 when a raider decided to target our map) Well for the benefit of those who don't understand the Chinese dialects, by calling someone "Humji", you are calling him a coward "Wuji" on the other hand, I do not understand. I agree that there are some people in MapleSea who can speak somewhat decent English like me, but they are few and far between among the throngs of kids who pick up the curses and vulgarities daily and put them into use. I apologise to anyone who is offended, but i still uphold my stand that most MapleSea players simply cannot speak proper English. It seems to me that the main problem is actually not about using proper English, but rather it's the behaviour of the community itself. That's what one thing that I don't like about it too. They've been used to using vulgarities frequently until other people/friends learn from it. In this current society, many kids have been exposed to all these that they've been using it without realizing that it is rude, etc. I tend to reprimand my younger cousins whenever they uses them. As for the broken english problem.. it can't be helped. I'm satisfied as long as it is understandable.. =) (Off-Topic: IDK WHY BUT I AM QUITE IRRITATED WITH THE IMPERFECT ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS IN MAPLESEA. (eg. Neo Tokyo, "Mental Capacity" scrolls, etc.) It feels good that they are copying and pasting GMS-translated core content whenever its possible. lol.)
