Herbs and Veins locations
#1
After wandering around in the Maple world, I found the following pattern for herbs and veins locations.

First of all, what determines which herbs and veins are in a map are the level(s) of the monster(s) in those map, split in 3 level ranges. If there are monsters of different ranges, the highest range is used.
  • Level 1-29: No herbs and veins are spawned.
  • Level 30-99: Which herbs and veins are spawned depends on the last number of the monster's level. For example: 30 → 0, 35 → 5, 39 → 9, 89 → 9 ect. Then use the following table:

    NrHerbs and Veins color
    0,1Silver & Magenta
    2,3Blue & Brown
    4,5Emerald & Gold
    6,7Aquamarine & Red
    8,9Black & Purple

If there are multiple monsters in the map, herbs and veins for all those monsters are spawned. If the levels of the monsters results in herbs and veins of non-adjacent color, all colors between are also spawned.
For example, in a map spawning level 81 and 84 monsters, the herbs and veins that are spawned are: Silver & Magenta (from lvl 81 monsters), Emerald & Gold (from lvl 84 monsters) and Blue & Brown because it's in between.
  • Level 100-200: All these maps spawn Emerald, Gold, Aquamarine, Red, Black and Purple herbs and veins, regardless of level.
Sometimes there are less herb and vein spots than allowed herbs and veins, so it is possible you won't find a Purple Vein in the first level 100+ map you enter, but you'll encounter them in other channels.

Heartstones and Golden Flowers are spawned randomly in any map where herbs and veins spawn, albeit with a very low rate.

There are some maps which despite having monsters in the map, they do not spawn any herbs and veins. These are (list most likely incomplete):
  • El Nath: Ice Valley II
  • El Nath: The Passage
  • El Nath: The Cave of Trial I - III
  • Aquaroad Dungeon (except Pianus Cave)
  • Korean Folk Town: A Small Well
  • Korean Folk Town: Around the Pond
  • Between Sleepywood: Sunless Area and Drake Cave: Cave Exit

In this table you can see which ores/seeds/flowers drops from which herbs/veins:

ColorOresFlowers & Seeds
SilverSilver & OpalMarjoram
MagentaOrihalicon & AmethystLavender
BlueSteel & SapphireRosemary
BrownBronze & AdamantiumMandarin
EmeraldMithril, Emerald & DEX CrystalLemon Balm & Peppermint
GoldGld & TopazJasmine
AquamarineAquamarine & DiamondTea Tree
RedGarnet & Power CrystalChamomile
BlackBlack Crystal & Dark CrystalPatchouli

well, this is very interesting way of randomizing herbs and such, and what takebacker said too.

Didn't see any herbs or veins in the first two or three Drake Cave maps. Maybe due to the wavy ground, in which case there won't be any in the other Drake Cave maps either (I didn't look).

+1 for another great thread, all of these ought to be rounded up in a subforum or at least stickied in their respective forums.

Coupling this with MapleStory's improved World Map makes everything easier.

This thread needs more attention.

A few good spots I found by accident;
-
Swamp Bog (one map left from Haunted House ) spawns every vein except for Brown/Blue. I was there for a good while mining for Gold, Emerald and Aquamarines for my projects. CCing is easy too because the monsters aren't really coming after you.
-Royal Guard Pepe maps are good for just pure Gold/Emerald farming.

Awesome thread! I've been at Retz for Aquamarine/Red Veins mostly. Pretty easy to get around and the spawn isn't too bad. If anyone knows any maps that are better please let me know!

The first two maps west of Mu Lung, with chipmunks and porkys has aquamarine/red veins. The maps are fairly easy to get around in between and changing channels. It's not needed, but having some mobility skill like flash jump will speed it up a bit.

The first two or three maps to the left of Leafre have a good spawn of medium-leveled herbs/veins. And there's a hiddenstreet around that area with platforms in a circular shape that spawn a lot of herbs/veins.

...I don't think this is right.
ToT, Showa stronghold, Leafre, everything in El Nath starting with the Yetis, and Ludi Clocktower ONLY spawn Gold, Red, Aquamarine, and Black veins, no matter the monsters.
Bain maps in Zakum area don't have any. Neither do most Aqua Road maps.

Pardon if I've missed this, but perhaps it would be useful to include a list of WHAT VEIN/ROOT DROPS WHAT ORES/HERBS, for lack of better words.

From personal experience:

Silver Vein: Silver and opal ore.
Magenta Vein: Amethyst and orihalcon ore.
Blue Vein: Steel and sapphire ores.
Brown Vein: Bronze and adamantium ore.
Emerald Vein: DEX Crystal, mithril, and emerald ore.
Gold Vein: Gold and topaz ore.

I've not mined the remaining veins.

You can see it at the professions screen under Herbalism/Mining, and then look at the recommended levels of each seed/flower/ore.

But the table is added. Smile

I'm not sure about this.
The Froscola map in Malaysia has lvl 72 Froscolas and lvl 68 Jester Scarlions, and it does spawn plenty of black/purple and blue/brown veins. But it also spawns silver/magenta veins. Is this what you mean by the colours in-between?
