Deadman 12
Solid show. Season 2 is a given, looking forward to it. @Karako I would love to marathon a very fun action show, but I feel like I've seen most of them. i.e. Code Geass, FMA, Durarara Edit: Ao no Exorcost 12 hit the spot, so I'm looking for that but finished and marathonable. :<

Natsume Yuujinchou San 01:
As excellent as I remember. I really do love to see the backstories of all the demons/spirits.

New Noitamina! Yaaaaaay. One of the four best Thursdays of the year.
Usagi Drop - 1 So guuuuud. Why does the art style strike me as familiar? Why is Reina such a little peach? (the name choice is painfully fitting) Rin is also a shoe-in for most adorable character of the year. No. 6 - 1 I'm totally gay for this. Hope it doesn't nestle into mediocre like Fractale. So this Natsume Yuujinchou - something I should go watch the previous seasons of? I read that it leaves a similar feeling to Mushishi. Any validity to that?

Yes, you probably should watch the previous two seasons of Natsume Yuujinchou before this one. Although the individual stories themselves are usually episodic and independent of each other, you won't have a strong sense of who the main and supporting characters are as well as the reappearing youkai from previous stories. Natsume Yuujinchou does have a similar feel to Mushishi. The stories are mostly episodic and have to deal with problems existing between spirits and humans. However, Natsume has a stronger focus on the main character and the spirits are typically the ones being helped by him as they have personalities all their own. Some people call Natsume Yuujinchou a lighter version of Mushishi because it doesn't get into some of the darker themes that Mushishi explores and most of its resolutions are usually happy ones or bittersweet. I really enjoyed both of them, and they both rank among my favorite anime. If you enjoyed Mushishi you'll probably like Natsume Yuujinchou as well. Usagi Drop 1: I love when shows use this kind of artstyle. Even though they barely spoke this episode really managed to give Daikichi and Rin strong characterizations in very subtle ways. Can't wait to see how their relationship develops. No. 6 1: The blue-hair guy reminds me too much of Sasuke from Naruto. This show certainly does have an interesting sci-fi setting though, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. Hopefully they keep the BL to a minimum. Blood-C 1: Get head pounded in by a stone pincer. Just a scratch. Oh, and half-court hook shot no problem. I've never seen any of the other Blood series before, but I figured i would give this one a shot. I don't care for Saya's personality at all or anything having to do with the school life half of the show. What good parts there were about the fight scene were overshadowed by the lack of explanation and randomness of the whole thing, but that will probably be explained later. I don't know if I even want to watch another episode to see if it gets better.

No. 6 01: This seems like a good sci-fi...ish anime. I like how clean everything looks in here.
Blood-C 01: The start of this is much worse than in Blood+ to me. And lol @ reusing the main character's name.

Okay, just got around to finishing Deadman Wonderland and Aria.
Deadman Wonderland was awesome and I think that I might have to go pick up the manga now. The only part of the show I didn't like was how Ganta seemed to trust people more readily than any normal person would, especially when all of the people he's in contact with are murderers; however, Ganta's not that old, nor is he very experienced in the workings of the world, so even the show's one flaw can be forgiven. Aria, on the other hand, wasn't anything special. It was a solid show and all when it came to action, but its story seemed lacking. I was also bothered by how they depicted Dracula as a werewolf and made him stupid enough to display all of his weak points like a Legend of Zelda boss monster. Overall, Aria seemed pretty mediocre, especially compared to other shows like Deadman Wonderland.

Usagi Drop 1: I'm really impressed. The drifting off to sleep scene was my favorite.
Nyanpire 1: This season's Chi's Sweet Home? I never ended up watching that so I'll probably follow this. Only about 3 minutes per episode anyway. I liked the suspense.

Of all the things I've watched so far this season, I'm thinking to follow:
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu S2 - Been a fan of the first so I'll definitely watch the second. Ikoku Meiro no Croisee - Heartwarming. Really heartwarming. Plus, I want a Yune doll... Mayo Chiki - Ahaha, this looks like the winner comedy for the season. Nurarihyon no Mago S2 - Awesome first season. Hoping to see more awesomeness the second season. Things I'll watch for the time being until it gets bad and eventually drop: Idolm@ster - Hard to tell where the direction for the anime is going based on first episode alone. Looks interesting though, despite the fact the characters are all so generic. Looking forward to seeing yandere Haruka. YuruYuri - Moe/comedy. Though, I'm happy the anime didn't progress into overdoing boobs/panties jokes. Though, I dunno how a moe/comedy will progress without getting to that point. Ro-Kyu-Bu! - What the hell? Basketball lolis? Despite that, the best character in the anime is the aunt. If she doesn't appear more, I'm dropping. Sacred Seven - Ahahaha, terribad storyline. Awesome as hell animation, but hey, it's Sunrise. What do you expect?
2011-07-08, 08:24 PM
Generic, thy name is Sacred Seven. Also, sniper maids.
Blood-C 1 That was some bipolar pomegranate right there. I hope/assume all that happy stuff is a set-up for pomegranate hitting the fan. If not, that was a rather pretty fight. Clamp characters always take a bit of getting used to. Penguindrum 1 What. The. Fu'ck. You guys should watch this. I don't even know where to start, but someone else needs to watch this.

I would watch penguindrum, but i'm too busy watching mayo chiki over and over

Behind with my stuff. Need to finish Denpa Onna, almost done with AnoHana. Been awaiting Idolm@ster with the burning passion of 1000 suns and it seems like it might prove to be done right.
Nichijou 14: ![]() Nyano is so HNNNNG. First one I found to be really funny since the earlier episodes. Where do I begin with all the gags that I really liked in this episode? Double-J 01: When I first read the title before going on to read the premise in the summer season chart, I thought a Double-J was some kind of basketball trick shot. I was already disappointed when I didn't see a single jersey on one of those girls and then went on to read the actual premise, but it did seem promising that it was an adaptation of something made by the same guy who made Cromartie. The first twenty seconds don't look half-bad. Then what I got after was a high-end Newgrounds Flash. Toba looked terrible. It's a decent enough watch, it's funny but not as funny as Cromartie. Will keep watching, since it's only 4 minutes per episode. How bad could it get? EDIT: Oh yeah, I find it hilarious that a lot of people are downloading rips of the TV version of "The world is all one!!" in Idolm@ster's anime when the full version has been out for months.

So. If enough people fuss about it here, I usually make a point to at least watch an episode. On the other hand, Mayo Chiki's synopsis instantly tripped my "it's fanservice shlock" detector. But I watched it anyway.
And it was fanservice shlock. But I did laugh. I see myself getting bored and just kinda stopping a few episodes into it as I often do with, but eh.

Bunny Drop 1: Really good. Love the art style. Read volume 1 of the manga; buying 2 and 3 and then reading the rest somewhere because they're not officially out yet.
Also, I heard the ending of the manga was horrible... and then someone actually spoiled for me, and it was exactly what I guessed it would be once I heard it was bad. :|

The iDOLM@STER 01: HOLY SHIT YESSSSSSSS
When this anime was announced with Gainax character designer Atsushi Nishigori (Panty & Stocking and Gurren Lagann) at helm, I couldn't tell if this was going to be a success or if it would be a high-budgeted bomb. I've been a fan of the games, the music, and the characters for a while, but I wasn't sure if it would be able to translate well. After watching the first episode, I was convinced that this might just be the iDOLM@STER anime that does justice to the games that I've been waiting for. I had a lot of fun with it. For people familiar with Idolm@ster, there's a lot to appreciate and enjoy out of the first episode. For people who aren't really, it's a pleasant introduction to the characters. It's a daunting mental task and one that threatens the balance of the series if it has so many characters, but I think it'll be able to do it, though that might be my bias as someone who already knew the cast. The unique documentary/first person approach to the episode stood out. I thought it was unique and fun way to get to introduce and learn about the girls; it gave a chance to give spotlight on different girls and it moved around different events and actions to see what they're like. I thought it was a perfect end to the first episode when they revealed that the Producer was behind the camera and it was a good set-up for the story to begin in the next episodes (and yes, it makes it obvious that they won't be using this experimental style throughout the rest of the series). What I do want to see is well-done concert scenes that recreate the energy and feel that the concerts have and I'm hoping to see good story. I haven't watched videos of the scenes of the second game yet, but I wonder if we'll see the rival male idols and in the 2, Ritsuko is the producer of an idol group consisting of Azusa, Iori, and Ami- I can't remember if they're rivals to the Producer (the player) or not. AnoHana 7-11: I've been a fan of the dad since the beginning and I really liked him in episode 10. That being said, I don't really have much else to say since most people have said what I wanted to say. I loved the character progression from start to end, and likewise, I enjoyed the very character driven story. Teared up at the ending with the notes she left them all and with the hide-and-seek. They've also been good at getting me to feel really emotional every time I hear KIMI TO NATSU NO OWARI SHOURAI NO YUME. What a fantastic original show.

Mawaru Penguindrum 01: Not sure if I liked this. Seemed a bit too weird. Not too fond of the character designs.
No. 6 01: Yaoi bait no thanks. Blood-C 01: Seems okay. Action scenes were done pretty well except inexplicably she can suddenly cut it after not being able to scratch it earlier. Good production quality. Usagi Drop 01: Interesting. Looks like it will be a fantastic slice of life. Interesting art style. Mayo Chiki 01: Looks like generic harem junk, but Subaru is pretty hnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg. Good character designs and production so far. Ro-kyu-bu 01&02: Definition of a moe-loli animu. Seems interesting enough so far, despite being girls basketball. They animate Tomoka's skill very well. Also Hanazawa Kana <33333 Doubt it will end up being very good overall though. |
