Signs of Alien PQ coming back?
Locked Wrote:Yes, and the Visitor PQ stayed after the Event had ended. Do you not recall? You even PQ'd with me long after it ended.

I know. That had nothing to do with its supposedly official closure and the debate on it, though. If it was meant to be shut down, one way or another, arguing that it's actually not is a really moot point.

Oh, no. Not on your part.

They really didn't care about it until someone mentioned it. In fact, from the date of that post it was already one and a half months since people started "abusing" going into VPQ. Yet, they did absolutely nothing. They didn't even address it either. Plus the fact that jMS had the Big Bang before gMS and removed the PQ whilst gMS followed suit seems a bit odd.

Consistency doesn't make sense and seems odd?
The answer given lines up with the way they handled things in both versions.
This nitpicking and trying to determine what they did and didn't care about is absurd. They specifically told us they were aware, they cared, and that it shouldn't be happening. That's the key.

It ended, they declared it officially closed, gave a legitimate reason for it to be closed. Entry after that point is abuse. Clear cut.
All this rationalizing why it's OK for people to abuse a glitch is just silly. Anything can be rationalized; it doesn't make it right.
The perceived degree of harm doesn't make it any more right either.

Just because the issue is a lower priority than others in getting fixed doesn't mean abuse of it is being sanctioned.
Just because Nexon hasn't written in giant letters of flame within the VPQ "This Here Be Closed - Use and Die" doesn't mean it's not closed and there won't be consequences if people using it inappropriately escalate to a level they feel requires a visceral reminder that GMs have teeth.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Is this timeline wrong?

1) VPQ comes to Thai-MS
2) VPQ is announced as GMS-exclusive content (because Nexon doesn't know what exclusive means), is released
3) VPQ comes to JMS
4) VPQs shut down on various servers, after around 6 weeks - in Thai-MS and JMS, the event is done. In GMS, the 120+ PQ is modified and continues to work.
5) Big Bang comes to JMS, their team does a good job of adapting the local content (ie. fix hp:exp ratios on Crimsonwood Keep, Mushroom Shrine, Showa mobs)
6) Big Bang comes to GMS-Tespia, where all the world tour mobs are horribly broken exp-wise. At this point, the 120+ VPQ still works. By which I mean, Big Bang did not break it in any manner, it was fully functional.
7) After complaints, GMS-Tespia patches, fixing some of the world tour mobs. This content seems to be taken from JMS, and also removes the VPQ entrance NPC.
8) GMS gets Big Bang, sans VPQ entrance NPC. Anyone inside the VPQ can still VPQ, but it's no longer possible to get into the map otherwise. A large number of mobs have hugely broken exp ratios because JMS doesn't have those mobs.
9) A week or two after, GMS fixes those straggling Singapore mobs.
10) ~2 months later, Eurydice announces they "intended to remove" the VPQ on Basil. Anyone still inside gets taken out.

This follows exactly the same template of "GMS is run by people who don't make any content, and can't even edit the content they do have," which is obvious in pretty much all their actions.

Now that I recall, that would be correct. The extension of 120+ VPQ was prior to Big Bang. The Marksman Bryan thing was after.

Right. Nothing.

First, starting off defending Lyrics was entirely unwarranted, as he never was attacked. If it is his insecurity that made him feel like he was, it's his goddamned problem, not mine. I refuse to be held accountable if you pee your pants when I conduct a body search for bombs when you'd priorly shoplifted a snack bar.
See? I never addressed the OP, and that was painfully clear since the OP NEVER ONCE promoted Southperrian VPQ roll-calling. I'm searching for bombs, not a missing Kit-kat.

Second, I have no need for you to tell me what I needed to do. I addressed two people AND those who shared those two people's mindset. Two things happen here:
1/ If you're thinking of recruiting Southperrians for VPQ, this reminder/warning is for you
2/ If you're not, move on
I don't give a f'uck about people, like the OP, who get super sensitive because of, presumably, their subconscious feeling of guilt. This is why I never addressed Shinku either. They both did the same damned thing, which I entirely ignored out of disinterest.
I wanted to keep Southperry clean of this filth. Discussing the exploit is one thing, promoting it is another.

Third, my accusation of your poor comprehension was due to you completely missing the first part of this post. The accusation was totally off-based and was nothing more than spam, regardless of what you wanted to do with it, "clearing up confusion", perhaps.

Fourth, I'm bitter because I keep having to point out the painfully obvious fact that you, thankfully, have now grasped: I never once addressed the OP after the first post in this entire thread where I replied to his "Discuss" plea. If you are too dumb to realize you were not being talked to, I apologize, my hands were tied thanks to the intended requirement of subtleness (thus, vagueness) in the warning. But hey, you tend to realize that after exchanging like 5 sentences with the dude in the neighboring toilet booth who turned out to be on the phone.

Yeah i'm not going reiterate what has actually happened again at this point. I guess you win this clusterpineapple. My offer does still stand.

As a fair warning i wouldn't challenge this or attempt to rub that i got tired of this pomegranate in my face. I'll happily overturn this decision.

EDIT: and by happily i mean it will be bittersweet for me at best.

The hell? Let's just stay on topic. You'd need a lot more wit to attack me anyways. Nobody using Southperry to recruit (not that I know of). If someone is recruiting, the post should be deleted. This isn't a recruiting thread. It's in f'ucking Maplestory Discussion, not one of the world sub-forums. Relax, it isn't that serious.

here, let's me just say this:

was the PQ removed? yes
did the GM's explicitly say it wasn't supposed to be in? yes

was it removed due to the coder's incompetence/lazyness to fix it to post-BB? probably
can it be accessed now, because of a hack? yes

what is bolded, are what we are suppossed to be following, the TOS, this list can also apply to the HobPQ glitch, look:

was it caused by the coder's incompetence? yes
can the hob pq glitch be accessed? yes

both are caused by the failure o the coders, but taking advantage of either, when it is very obvious, or even said that they shouldn't be happenning, is abusing an exploit/hack.

what you or me think should be the degree of punishment doesn't matter, you can't negate the above statement. and this comes from the guy who is able to do the PQ.

I already talked about how strict adherence to the ToS is not the same as integrity or good morality, and I don't see any reason to revisit that so just this:

It seems like the tide of condemnation is on the idea that people are abusing a glitch. Let's examine that. What makes something a glitch in this game? It's a feature Nexon doesn't intend.

What is so sacred about Nexon's intent? Why are we now concerning ourselves with the minutia of what they intend, or announce, or encourage? The balance thats struck in the community regarding behavior doesn't reflect this, most of our actions in game don't reflect this, so why should our conclusions reflect it in this discussion? Most of the people condemning glitch abuse in this case are among those who repeatedly (and legitimately) bash Nexon for their many, many game-damaging mistakes and oversights. Some call being able to VPQ a glitch because Nexon didn't put giant glowing advertisements involving buying more NX for the return of the PQ doesn't change the real, mechanical accessibility and completely legitimate availability of this VPQ to every single 120+ character - thanks to a Nexon-provided item. Who cares if they may not have actively intended for us to enjoy something they actually did a decent job making back when it was blessed by Nexon's sacred attention. We're lucky to have things we enjoy in this game most of the time in spite of Nexon, so it certainly doesn't confer sacred authority to Nexon regarding our gameplay.

Now, why is actual glitch abuse still wrong, if there's nothing particularly sacred about Nexon's intent? There are economic distortions, restricted access to gameplay, and disproportionate advantages (ie leveling). These are the things that make the difference between a glitch, and glitch abuse. Does the availability of VPQ expose us to these things? Not really. And by all means, if you think of other reasons why glitch abuse is wrong and may apply to this case, chime in.

Economic distortions: the people who left mules at VPQ last time the npc was taken out lost their monopoly on VIP equips, boo hoo. That's not an economic distortion, that's a return to normalcy that reflects the availability of this pq. There is a sliver of cheapening the VIP weapons that came before, since VPQ is undeniably easier now as the mobs and damage haven't been updated to reflect rebalancing. Besides, that effect is due more to rebalancing than the pq, just as zak helms you got when it was actually a multiparty endeavor took more effort than ones people now solo in 5 minutes.

Restricted access to gameplay: it's a 120+ only pq, the only other requirement is someone who performed the prequests during the event to lead. Hardly an exclusive or problematic option for players. And there's an actual benefit here, since this is access to one of Nexon's better designed and more fun gameplay elements. If this is how people want to spend their in game time, what's the surviving reason they shouldn't? Basically, the only thing that restricts access to this gameplay, is your own choice not to participate. You don't have to be willing to do anything you didn't do before when VPQ was Nexblessed.

Disproportionate advantages: here's the best part. This pq is being played exactly as it was before, people take roughly the same amount of time, and get the same reward. This doesn't speed up leveling, this isn't the best way to make money (far from it). This is merely an option among many, as balanced as any other area or feature ignored in the latest rebalancing - and there are many.

So where's the abuse? Better phrased, where's the harm? That's what makes performing a glitch wrong, the effect on others, not the fact that we break with (our anyway often flawed interpretation of) Nexon's holy will. Where's the problem with this anywhere outside of: "Nexon didn't explicitly want us to do it, so it's wrong"?

All it takes is the existence of one hacker, to open entire playerworlds to this pq. That is the beginning and end of what is wrong or immoral about this situation: the hacker. Everything that comes after - people doing VPQ - isn't abuse. Or harmful. Or wrong.

I do concede it's a glitch though. Like any of the many things we currently enjoy and are glad Nexon created, provided, or left in, despite their nearly unrelenting incompetence.

I feel like you're doing this on purpose. Are you?

This is definitely going to be the "Exclusive content". Aliens part 2- Alien PQ, but with PvP >Smile

-sigh- i don't want to go into the PQ because i know it's an exploit to get in there in the first place, but at the same time, i want to scroll myself a VIP knuckle to surpass my equinox (since it was scrolled in teh days before there were massive amounts of white scrolls and enhancements).

This thread is a perfect exemple of what has become of maplestory. People only care about damage, and that is why they want an even party quest to come back instead of a new gms-exclusive place which has way more to offer. Since Nexon announced the pq would come back, everyone is going ZOMGVPQVPQ everytime we hear about exclusive content and that is truly disappointing.

How do you even know what the "GMS-exclusive" content has to offer? Have you seen it? Last time I checked GMS-exclusive content has never been that exclusive, either. :|

Not like I'm defending this sh`itty method of circumventing and using this PQ, because you shouldn't and you'll only be disappointed when you find out really how very few people can actually use this PQ. It's not even worth searching for someone. It's a glitched piece of crap as of right now.

Definition of exclusive is not only not what the actual word means, but also changes over time.

I assume you mean their definition of exclusive.

I mean the definition based on how they use the word in relation to how the content itself is thrown around.

At first it meant content that no other version had. Then when developers started to get bored they ported slightly nerfed versions of that content, and exclusive became "the version the content originated from". Nowadays exclusive just means "the version that has the unnerfed version of that content". Still pretty shaky though since there are exceptions. GMS has CWK as does SEA and EMS, but both versions that got CWK after GMS have MoNs with slots. Other than that, ThMS might have got visitor event first, but ours was unnerfed. We got to keep doing it after it ended as well as 10 att medals.

Exclusivity isn't forever. It's actually quite fleeting. It really just means"here first".

Isn't MSEA's Masteria and EMS different than ours? Aside from the MoNs with slots. IIRC MSEA doesn't even have HH and HH2 and only kept them for Halloween.

Exclusive (adj, Nexon, colloquial): Concept created by; Idea originating from.

It's never meant "something other versions don't have", or even "something the version gets first." It quite simply means the idea came from that version. For GMS-exclusive content, the content itself is made in Korea and comes to whatever version happens to patch it in first.
