Nexon wanted to save themselves a headache so they shut down the whole game to prevent anyone from getting hot time prizes. So many people would whine about how unfair it is that some people got TWO hot time chances, especially with those medals out there. Then they would've had to figure out some compensation for everyone (or everyone not logged in which would just piss off those who were logged in) It was just easier to unplug it and stop anyone from getting a prize.

Like, if their purpose was to avoid unfairness for some players getting hot time twice, why not shut it down at 2:15 instead of right at 2:29, where something might have happened and bam, 2 hot times for some people.

Let's look at this realistically We'll start by declaring the obvious: Nexon doesn't do what's most logical. Ever. So while it might seem obvious that shutting it down 15 minutes beforehand would make more sense, it might not have occurred to Nexon. Or perhaps they actually hoped they could fix it with a few minutes to spare and allow everyone on. It's too coincidental that everyone got kicked off two minutes before hot time for it to be the game crashing. Besides, it was every channel on every server, not just one. So unless the power went out at that exact moment, it's highly unlikely that that is the cause. My money is on this being the scenario: Nexon thought they could fix it and shut down the login servers at around 5:00 to stop the incidental DDoSing by panicked players trying to get on. They hoped they could allow players on before the event was scheduled to begin. As time grew extremely close they realised there was nothing they could do and that there were still players on and had to decide between pissing off the few players that were still online or pissing off the many who were not able to get on. They chose the latter.

Hmm... the scenario I'm seeing is different: Once it became apparent the login server was deathly ill, somebody told the intern to take the game down.
Intern put the website in "game offline" mode, and put the login server out of its misery. Then people started discussing what was wrong and how to fix and where are the cupcakes, until at 2:28pm someone glanced at whatever monitor they got and went, "Oh shyt, the game servers are still up!" and hit the panic switch (aka power off).

I had a feeling something was bound to go wrong with this Hot Time event, if the rest of Chaos was any indication.
Didn't bother going on for it, was playing Spiral Knights instead.

Now then, I don't think either of us really know what happened. I'm inclined to think there was some glitch with hot time coding. Might have been, might not have been. I truly don't know. As for shutting down the log in server but leaving players that were on all peachy, I think that would be a first for nexon, problematic coding would not *points at cwkpq*. |
