God forbid you let your users (more, at that) test your code properly and then make the changes and implement just as they were in the test server so we avoid pomegranate like the Hoblin PQ exploit.
Just because you can't catch all of them doesn't mean you can't get some of them. Like, why DID THEY NOT PATCH CHANGING YOUR WH SUMMON ID TO PINK BEAN? They are pineappleing idiots. They CLEARLY knew people were abusing the pomegranate out of this exploit yet it still exists.

Conversely they could use common sense. Almost every time that a "Exchange this special token for an uber godly item" event has come out, hackers have had some way of manipulating the packets going in and out from the NPC. What the obvious step would be to counter this, is to know that these will be prime targets for exploits and they should take countermeasures on ALL these new NPC types.
They could also use more trade-in NPCs like the cake V Pie rewards, but that's annoying even for normal users, but it was still harder for hackers to exploit.
They could also make it less obvious that they copy and paste data by NOT OVERWRITING THEIR FIXES FROM PREVIOUS PATCHES.

Yep, still not getting it.
Lets encourage the users to violate the ToS and hack/packet edit/actively pursue exploits in the test server, seems like an amazing idea!!!!1!one!

They shouldn't be asking us to hack Tespia, they should have been smart enough to hire people with at least some minimal knowledge in the programs that are used for hacking, and the protocols involved with them. Thing is, they didn't because they've proven time and time again that they know nothing about their game.

They do it because they then turn around and make real life money/NX from selling those hacks.
So they benefit while Maplestory suffers.
Clearly you don't understand the concept of white hat hacking.
It would not be a violation if it's authorized. Hurrdurr.
Done the right way, Nexon could use incentives to motivate hackers to improve the game.
They could promise NX to people who break the code in Tespia and show how they broke the code.
The entire damn point of Tespia is to make sure the game doesn't break when live.

If you're talking about the community and tespia participants, no, officially they aren't. hurrdurr. If you're talking about people in the employ of Nexon, then that isn't any sort of hacking, "white black or grey," triple hurrdurr.

LOL! You actually think hackers players that are already not playing by the rules will turn a new leaf and be good? hahahahaha
Also nexon can not pay the amount of money hackers make while using hacks. Max mesos on many account, selling mesos, godly items, and still being able to be legit? You really think hackers will give up that luxury for 100k maple points? You sir are delusional as pineapple

Hacker's really have no incentive to stop hacking, or hack in order to help Nexon prevent them. What's sad is most of the people that still play pretty much are stuck having to deal with the fact that Nexon putting enough effort since they probably don't see enough of a decline in revenue to battle hackers more aggressively.
Not to mention a good amount of the people that don't hack would rather just hack and be a pretend legit since less and less people care about legitimacy. The game itself is a great game, just managed poorly in a lot of aspects. The decline in people caring about being "legit" definitely attributes to the fact that hackers can and will do whatever they want and most people eventually just figure Maple is too hard to not hack.

What's the point of a test server then if not to explore and find bugs and exploits?...Regardless of whether or not you use hacks or not. It's a test server. Where anyone can do anything they want, basically. They don't care how you do it, they want you to find problems.
You shouldn't be so offensive. Geez.

Two things.

1. Great argument, except I say you're wrong. See how well that works?
2. Sorry, what about my IGN means anything? If that's offensive perhaps you should take it up with Dave Chapelle. My name isn't fodder because you don't feel like staying on topic. Don't even pretend like you were offended by my IGN.

Hackers will NOT tell nexon what exploit they found. Yes, nexon wants you to find problems, but not problems where it requires you to to use third party programs. You are not suppose to be using those methods in the first place! i believe this is what octo is trying to tell you. Tespia is used to test new content that is coming out. Also why should someone hack on the test server, those hacks might not actually work on the live server where it count the most.

You're being a massive hypocrite for a couple posts now. Why should I take you seriously? I'm off topic yet replying to you. Offense is taken, not given, especially when i'm not doing anything overtly offensive or insulting you. Now if you were viaje i'd say you have a point, but I'd also say you started it. No your IGN means nothing and isn't relevant. However "offended" you are is just as irrelevant. But besides all of this irrelevant nonsense, the purpose of tespia is still not to see if we can ignore a large part of the ToS and get some early practice in on ruining the game. That is debugging. It is Nexons job. Not Tespia testers. Given, they are pomegranate at it but the purpose of tespia is to test game content. Not hacks. I.e. you're wrong. Does my explanation need to get any lengthier?

Next thing you know, Nexon bans anyone with said items at certain levels. While it is measly for an exploit, it can easily impact everyone. It's Nexon, afterall. DFO and Mabinogi go down for maintenance, but Maple's really the one needing maintenance. Desperately.

Could've been done with the last sentence, just sayin'.
The rest, I don't know what to call.
If you guys are going to bicker, keep out the frills. It's annoying to skim through and against the R&R. We spent 2 pages going back and forth to literally say 2 things:
- Tespia servers should be used to find existing bugs AND potential exploits by actively recreating such, strengthening the update overall.
- Tespia servers should be used solely to find the game bugs that happen to a standard innocent player, making the update acceptable.
How either side feels it should be done is all that's relevant, how either side thinks it IS done is not.

No crap. For what? Exploits. Are all exploits found via hacks? No. In fact almost all of the biggest ones were NOT found via hacks. Could they have been prevented by a better use of Tespia by both Nexon AND the users? No. pomegranate. Did I say "regardless of whether they use hacks or not?" Yes, I did. Learn to read and calm down boy. I wasn't only referring to hackers anyway.
Also if you guys seriously think hackers have never given Nexon through one channel or another the exploits that they find, well, that opinion is asinine and you're wrong and until you can prove me otherwise you shouldn't speak on what others haven't, aren't, and won't do (because they have, in case you didn't get that point). Some of the best exploits around have been kept within circles and given to Nexon to only be patched within the next update. To attempt and be some kind of judge on others morals and say for sure what they will and will not do (such as help Nexon via official means of finding exploits) is also pretty pointless, because you are not them. Period. Not all of them do it for money (and in fact a lot of them don't). They do it for the challenge as well as the notoriety associated with it.
That's pretty much all I have to say and since you're pretty adamant on going off-topic and staying there I'll excuse myself.

You're actually wrong yourself, too.
The people you think of as hackers, the ones running around abusing the game, no, they likely wouldn't.
There's an entire pool of people out there who have the skills, often far better than the script kiddies in fact, who don't use them because they understand the wrongness of it who would be quite happy to hop in to a test server and figure out where the gaps are if they knew doing it would actually make the game better instead of hurting it further and that they wouldn't be punished for trying to make it better. Those are the people who Nexon could in fact pay bug-bounty to and improve their games by working with.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

You along with a team of 4-5 others from SP could probably fix 95% of the bugs in Maple in under a week.
