I think it's a good idea because you're providing HB.
Since only people who can afford scrolling their zhelms will go with you, they can definitely afford to stay alive. 10 apples isn't hard to get. If you allow them to attack with you instead of waiting on the side, that would help you kill faster. Of course they get no split.
