ShiKage Wrote:Who says they had a lot more money to throw at the project? It's not like Nintendo has a bottomless pit of money. Creating sound tracks for video games, especially high-quality sound tracks, isn't exactly cheap, so they would be putting more money into it than they probably would have made through sales, especially considering the advertisement and whatnot.
Are you seriously implying that ocarina of time won't make more money than it would cost to orchestrate the music? In addition to what they already paid, obviously. There is absolutely no answer to this other than laughing.
In case you didn't hear, 20% of uk 3DS owners have already bought the game. 3 days after its release. If even that number goes for the rest of the world, it's already the bestseller for the console. within 3 days of its release. Yeah.
Quote:There are songs in Ocarina of Time that would have turned out horrible if they tried to "make it better" and I'm pretty sure they knew it. Prime example : Sheik's Theme
Do you understand what orchestrated means? In terms of videogames, it means rather than having sounds represented as best they could (in this case by a 13 year old sound chip or whatever the heck the n64 used), they would be having a person play it on a real instrument and record it. Yes, granted shieks theme being only a recording vs the sound chip wouldn't have much difference, because it only took one instrument to make it in the first place, it would still sound better making full use of the technology in the 3ds now vs 13 year old hardware.
Quote:It was way more cost-effective to keep the original sound track while keeping the original feel to the game than to pay a music composer to create orchestrated versions of it. They still had Skyward Sword to spend that time and money on, so a remake like Ocarina of Time just wasn't exactly worth the trouble.
No. Just no. When your argument boils down to "its more cost effective". They should just never bother adding new music to any game they ever make again, right? They have tons of music they could be using in all future zelda (and mario and metroid, so on...) games. Does that mean they should?
Like hell it does.
Quote:They fixed the issue at the Forest Stage (deku scrubs) where if you wore the Mask of Truth post-pulling the master sword they'd fail to give you the Deku Seed upgrade.
I thought it was actually doing part of the biggorons sword trading quest that did it (getting the saw?). Either way, yes, they fixed it.
Quote:Also, it wasn't even Nintendo who did the update. It was GEZZA. Like the Sly collection was done by Sanzaru Games. They have to report to the original company but it's mostly working on their own.
Grezzo. And they codeveloped it with nintendo. There are plenty of nintendo employees in both sets of credits at the end of the game.

It's a remake.
I don't see why it has to have the most money dumped in it than any other game. Granted it's in the Guiness Book of World Records for the highest rated video game of all time, but god damn. Why the hell would they spend so much money on a video game that's not much more than a port to a portable console? It's a waste of money. Just because the sales were great so far, it doesn't mean they didn't anticipate the sales not to be good because of the fact it's a rehashed game.

Trying to catch the biggest fish as adult. This takes forever. I also wonder why they didn't add the writing on maps thing from the DS games, it would make the Water Temple much better and also make up for the whole "not enough new content added" thing some people have. Anyways, I'm glad I finally get to play OoT.

But feel free to keep grasping at this sales joke (becuase you can't honestly be serious). For the most anticipated 3DS game. No-one seriously thought OOTs sales were going to be anything less than spectacular. Except maybe you I guess.
But hey, you're not prepared to come up with a better argument than sales? Fine, because that goes far enough to at least show there is no good reason they shouldn't have remade the music. The simple fact is, every piece of orchestrated music for zelda or mario that nintendo has come out with has been pure listening gold, and its a dissapointment that they show they could have done it for OoT but chose not to.

Can't speak for anyone else, but when I say I wanted new content, I meant a bonus dungeon or something. Like in links awakening DX. And if you really need to write something down, you could always use the 3DS game notes feature. Then again, the only thing I found worth writing down was my scarecrows song.

Yeah, okay. I'm an idiot.
Just one last thing : Name a Legend of Zelda game that has had a fully orchestrated sound track. Skyward Sword doesn't count.
Come back to me when you have that answer.

I believe once that page is gone then that's it, no way back. I tried every address combination known to man and it failed for me to. I'm not really bothered about not getting a soundtrack it's more the principle that annoys me. I dont know about the other websites but the European website is pretty horrible all round, Ive had issues with them in the past.
As for the soundtrack, I guess it comes down to personal choice if being faithful the n64 original is enough. But it wasn't just some lazy port. I dont if others have read the Iwata Asks feature but a lot more work went into the music than a lot of people may think.

Whatever, just tried to remember the name off the top of my head. Did pretty good
And just because they're credited doesn't mean they worked hands on with the game for any amount of time. These re-releases are mostly done by contract with the the contractors just coming in and making sure that everything passes snuff. They're not hands on.

If you just registered then it's too late. They stopped taking orders at midnight pacific last night. They probably overshot the number they had originally set by doing even that, but they wanted to make sure everyone who registered yesterday and ran into issues got one, which is pretty cool.
Edit: It's a little unclear, actually. It says midnight pacific time june 20th, which is... technically last night, but could be tonight. Either way, there is no prompt. Check your email for confirmation.
Edit: I'm having trouble figuring out how to get to the back part of Kakariko (inside the village). Used to be able to fly over the fence but they've increased the fence size. Anyone know how?

More than one way to swing a cat.
Climb up to the top of the tall wooden stand thing (the one with the hugeass ladder that a skulluta appears on at night). Use L targetting and backflip towards the fence from the very edge. You'll land on the fence. This also lets you get the heart piece from the dude on top of the house early.

I actually ended up getting through... with half my body hitting the fence, immediately after posting that. Yay for poor barriers!

I'm not even sure if you're supposed to get through it that way anymore. I dunno, I took one look at it and then gave up since I knew another way around anyway. It seemed weird that they made it bigger though.

I don't even know if I would go as far as to call it a "Remake", considering they only added, as far as I know, one new and original thing to the game, while the rest is an exact port of the N64 version just with updated graphics and a couple fixed mechanics.
I would have to believe that if the game was a complete and total remake, then majority of the N64 glitches wouldn't exist in the 3DS version.

I feel like when Nintendo makes/commissions a remake (with the exception of Mario 64DS) They don't do anything to it. They just port it the way it was with little change.
Also, still didn't get that e-mail. I wonder if calling/ticketing a week from now would be a little too late.

Ive made it clean across the fence but it wasnt as easy as I remembered either. But you can always throw the Cucco away at the fence and Link will grab onto it and you can pull yourself up.
The music sounds the same but it was also remade.

Yeah, you should phone now. Worst case scenario you find out it was last night and their wording was poorly chosen. It might net you a sympathy copy.

As far as I know, the 3DS "Master Quest" is just a port of the GCN CE "Master Quest", the only change they did to it was mirror the entire mode, which isn't original at all lol
That's like saying TP on the Wii is "Original" vs the GCN version.
Also I didn't know about the first two, I'll admit that, but I still wouldn't go as far as to call it a remake.
