Many questions I need answered before I can decide which professions to assign to which of my (all too many) characters...
1) Are all materials and products tradeable?
2) Can any character take on any profession and perform all its functions, or are there limits, direct (such as being unable to blacksmith items above your level) or indirect (such as all decent mining maps containing monsters that hit high)?
3) Do any of the character's base or derived stats affect its professional performance (for example: "hands" improving success odds, or "str" slowing fatigue).
4) Do we get extra inventory space for crafting materials?
5) Are there materials that can only be obtained in specific, not-easily-reachable maps (in other words, do certain professions need to, or benefit from, staying in a specific area)?
I've probably forgotten important questions, so if anyone has tips on how to decide what profession for which char(s), I'd be glad to read them.

I believe so yes
2) Can any character take on any profession and perform all its functions, or are there limits, direct (such as being unable to blacksmith items above your level) or indirect (such as all decent mining maps containing monsters that hit high)?
Fatigue is the only limit i can think of. You can make items above your BLACKSMITH lvl but with reduced change of success iirc, and all maps (Or most) have mining spots so it doesnt really matter
3) Do any of the character's base or derived stats affect its professional performance (for example: "hands" improving success odds, or "str" slowing fatigue). No, only personality traits may affect slightly but im not too sure. And no you cant slow fatigue and the fatigue recovery potion can only be used once a day
4) Do we get extra inventory space for crafting materials?
You get bags to store material collected by mining or plants, and these bags increase in storage size depending on your herbalist/mining lvl iirc
5) Are there materials that can only be obtained in specific, not-easily-reachable maps (in other words, do certain professions need to, or benefit from, staying in a specific area)?
Not really, most of the maps have materials to mine. There is also a special map in proffesion town with a time limit to get low-mid level materials too iirc

The once-a-day mining map is enough for all your mining needs up to level 5. You can easily mine 100 ores in 10 minutes.

Are the PvP tokens that you need for all the high-level stuff would be tradeable? I would be surprised if they were. So you would want your best PvP character to be jeweller or blacksmith if you have any dreams of making such items.

Pretty sure you purchase the recipe with tokens. The recipe itself is tradeable.

I think the Sign of ares (Last name it was called iirc) are tradeable, i think. If not... well just hope you don't get too much lag or get paired with DB/Shadowers/Archers/Magicians...

Proofs are not tradeable. And you do need them to make everything 130+.
The recipes being sold for proofs only came very recently to kMS, I think during Jump, so you might have to wait for that.

you could still get those by exchanging BP for "Secret Recipes" and hoping you got a 130 recipe.

They're officially called Gallant Emblems.
Also, all the Shoulder equips require them, and the 130 sets (your class set, as well as the Rising Sun accessories) and the level 70 PvP sets. So yes, your PvP character should be a Blacksmith or Jeweler.
PirateIzzy Wrote:Question : how do you get 130+ monster crystals?
There's a small chance of you getting one or two Superior Crystals instead of Advanced Crystals when you disassemble 100-120 items

Magicians benefict more from being herbalist since there is a personality trait that increase MP for every successful herb collected... If you do have a magician of course.

So it seems ores and raw materials are pretty easy to obtain. Does that mean it'd be a better idea to refine all my existing ores now and stockpile them as crafting material, instead of keeping them in raw form to get profession exp from refining them later?

I'd leave them as ores, it's more efficient. Eg. 100 silver ore becomes 10 plates now, 50 plates after the patch.
Also, being able to reset your Fatigue probably helps quite a lot.
So if I want the full PVP set on my NL, it needs to go Blacksmith + Accessory Crafting? (assuming I want to actually succeed in 1 try, ie. get level 10 ahead of time)
And WRT the Gemstone Imps, I don't really get what I'm supposed to do with them. 2 of mine fell asleep from eating too much (wake up in 21 hours), the other one I've been feeding Etcs to, and it's still awake.
Items to gain Accessory Crafting:
to rise to Level 2: 5 x Silver/Opal
Level 3: 12 x Orihalcon/Amethyst
Level 4: 21 x Steel/Sapphire
Level 5: 32 x Adamantium
Level 6: 45 x Emerald/DEX + ? x Intermediate Item Crystal
Level 7: 60 x Gold/Topaz
This is all forging the basic types of rings, assuming you go for the minimum recipes. You can do 20 a day, plus whatever you get by resting (not sure how often you regain fatigue).
Day 1: Level 3 @ 300
Day 2: Level 4 @ 200
Day 3: Level 4 @ 2200
Day 4: Level 5 @ 1000
Day 5: Level 5 @ 3000
Day 6: Level 6 @ 500
Day 7: Level 6 @ 2500
Day 8: Level 6 @ 4500
Day 9: Level 7 with 25 Fatigue left.
So if you have the ores (plus can get your hands on some monster crystals) it'll take a little over a week to get to level 7 with full efficiency recipes, if you just log on once a day and use up all your fatigue.
At level 7, you can't use full efficiency items anymore because they all require recipes for each forging.
Since Gold is/was common as pineapple (I have lots, anyway. I think they're from APQ bonus), you may want to continue with those to level 10.
Level 8: 7700 mastery @ 95 per forge = 82 rings (80 + 1 level 7 accessory works too)
Level 9: 9600 mastery @ 90 per forge = 107 rings
Level 10: 11700 mastery @ 86 per forge = 137 rings (135 + 1 level 7/8/9 accessory works too)
So a total of 386 gold/topaz is necessary to hit level 10, and another 16 days from level 7.
25 days to max out Accessory Crafting with the requisite items is not all that bad. Probably easier than collecting all those PvP badges.
You'll also need 38 basic abrasives (38k), 463 intermediate abrasives (2.3 million), if you go this route, but that's fairly cheap.
If you mine all this crap yourself, you'll need 1544 Gold/Topaz ore, 180 Emerald/DEX ore, 96 Adamantium ore, 63 Steel/Sapphire ore, 24 Orihalcon/Amethyst ore, and 10 Silver/Opal ore. This will take 19 days to mine on a single character, 5 days to smelt.
So conveniently if you mine on one character and forge rings on another, you'll have both at level 10 on day 25.

Perhaps you have not heard that KMS had an event that if you got Jeweller skill to level 10 in 15 days you were given the recipe for Dark Angelic Ring.
If GMS gets that, you will want to have all plates or gems already in hand.
Fatigue recovers 5 per hour, so with the aid of the fatigue potions in theory you could make 49 items per day if you maximized fatigue right before midnight server time and right after, then again before 8pm each day. 40-42 items perday might be more reasonable for those in the wrong timezone.
It should take 508 item creations to reach level 10, so if you can average 40 per day, it will take 13 days to reach level 10. Less per day than that risks losing out due to unforseen RL events, or server downtime.

Yep. This is why GMS can't have nice things.
