It's just now coming out for NA, yes.

Dusk Wrote:What does this even mean? Dragon Nest makes you direct your attacks with your mouse. WoW + clones make you click/tab-select a target and press buttons. What difference does that make?

If you've never played WoW, download the trial, or play LOTRO, which is a half-decent clone that's F2P now, or some other clone. It's not Runescape or Trickster Online. It's WASD+mouselook and lock targeting. This game is WASD and mouseover targeting, like Dragon Age. The only difference is that you don't actively tab-select a target, and instead you need to maintain your camera on the target. Big deal.

DN / Vind vs WoW / Rift

Skill-based "Hack and Slash" vs Button Mashing

What's there to not understand?

Dusk, I think it's blatantly obvious you're not going to inform the ignorant here so I think it's best to not try.

Good advice, thanks.

Not sure if serious

Not sure if you understand. You can't compare the two at all, it's as if you're comparing Street Fighter to Starcraft, so this argument is entirely pointless.

Are you claiming Street Fighter is a button masher or Starcraft is a button masher?

LOL, are you serious? Or are you just playing stupid for the sake of humor?

The hack-and-slash genre is one of the most button-mashy genres out there. It's up there with rhythm games and fighting games.

Fair enough, but that still doesn't mean both games are played the same.

That's not...

MMOs are a unique genre in that they are constantly updated and they reward continuous time investment. They're not like a regular RPG where you play through one and you move onto another one. So when a new MMO comes out, it has to be different and exciting to raise my interest. What I see happening is, every time someone posts about some new MMO, everyone's like "Wow cool! This is going to be so different and exciting!" and then someone has to ask, "What's different and exciting about it?" And then you get a miserably boring response. I haven't played Vindictus, but if this game is like Vindictus but simply in a different style, who the pineapple cares?

lolwut? WoW is a button masher, as well as SF.
SC is far from it, dunno where you're getting this idea from, unless you're trying to humor me.

Why are you grouping every MMORPG game up as one entity, regardless of difference in gameplay? All that's doing is making your expectations obscenely high, which will lead to massive disappointment Frown
If you mean like, the gameplay value is separated into sub-categories, then I understand where you're going.

Because not everyone has time to play more than one MMORPG.

Edit: Also, define "button masher." WoW limits your APM to 40/60 through GCDs and is about knowing what to use and when to use it rather than technical ability. You don't just pop all your CDs and hope the other guy dies in PvP. I guess melee classes are button mashers in PvE, but that's about it.

maybe i shouldn't have mentioned point and click since you strongly feel that dragon nest and WoW have the same targeting systems..would you say a game like Gears of War has the same targeting system as WoW?

Why do people continue making Call of Duty games and Battlefield games if they're the same game but in a different style? A more recent MMORPG example is Rift and WoW. Why play Rift when you can play WoW? Who cares about Rift?

Dragon Nest and Vindictus are the same but they are different enough that Dragon Nest is more closer to the traditional JRPG(i.e you have a hotkey bar with skill trees and what not) while Vindictus possibly feels like a western RPG(you only have two action buttons but different combinations of these two buttons performs different skills). It's really just preference on what you like to play with.

A full action type mmorpg hasn't been done very often before so my point still stands on that dragon nest is one of the few 3D action mmorpgs and is probably its main selling point when you compare dragon nest and WoW(and its clones). What do I feel about Dragon Nest? Yeah, it'll be overrated and it's really not that amazing. It's also obviously not the most unique experience you get in a game but when you look at Dragon Nest and all the other MMORPGs out there, I can at least appreciate what it's trying to do.

edit: i give up

I'm trying to remember how it was explained a few months ago. Pretty much the sooner you use a skill, the more overall DPS you accumulate. Even though you're limited by the GCD and whatnot, just getting your next skill off a few milliseconds faster increases your DPS than as opposed to not mashing. Although you could say mashing could be a troublesome thing due to the "Ability Queue" system that was put in the game.
I've never played a healer / tank in WoW, but I've played caster and melee DPS and they're more or less the same in "Button mashing" for top DPS. I'd have to strongly believe mashing as a healer is a terrible thing due to how precious mana is now.
