Random question.. I know pre-BB hero's had Guardian, which made some use of a shield for a hero. Is that changed? In determining between a Paladin and Hero out of the UA availability, part of that depends for me on whether heros have any use for a shield any more. Because I have a decently nice sparta + shield, but if Hero's don't get a benefit from having a shield and paladins do, that's enough for me to go that route.

Guardian is no longer available for Heroes, no. On the other hand, Monster Magnet is no longer there for Pallys. A shield can still have a load of attack from scrolling and 3 line potential, so by no means are they obsolete for Heroes.

I will make my first warrior soon going to be a Drk, i was wondering if a UA Drk will be strongerthan the regular Drk? ... since a regular Drk can get SD, Empress Might and the 24attack (BoE) as well.

An Ultimate Explorer version of a Dark Knight would be stronger than a normal one for a while, but then it'll even out as it levels. Once in fourth job, I believe it's prefered to use Crusher, Fury, and Sacrafice in pretty much all situations rather than using Soul Driver, and at 120 the Empress's Might becomes useless. By that point the only difference is the amount of hp/mp and item slots.

So, I've been asked by a guildy if I would be interested in doing an HT. I was wondering: should I level first and put 1 in achilles for saving from 1/1, and 1 into hero's will so I can get out of sed if needed? Currently have:
Around 13k HP before HB
30(32) Blast
19(21) MW (If we run, we'll most likely have MW30, though)
22(24) Stance
1(3) Guardian
10(12) ACB + Divine Shield
1(3) Rush
Also passed HH30 pre-BB and HC20 soon after BB, but reset both @ hot time. Thinking maybe a point into HH so I can help knock a bit of health off the parts periodically.

How would one suggest making an early Tankadin build? I'm thinking up a fourth job build for my future Paladin, but I want some opinions on this. The build I'm thinking of would be (in order) :
1 Rush
1 Blast
10 Adv. Charge Blow
10 Blessing Armor/Divine Shield
30 Guardian
30 Stance
30 Achilles
9/19/29 Maple Hero
After that, I have no clue on what to max. I was hoping to be able to make a perfect defensive character early on so I'm more useful than being just another DPS papayagot. I'm sure being a super tank early on would help at things like Chaos Zakum and Chaos Horntail, so what do you guys think?

No offence, but useful in maplestory means dishing out damage 99% of the time.
Your build for a defensive build seems pretty decent to me, but i personally switch stance with Guardian.
Also some more blast here and there won't hurt.

Late reply, but yes it does.
However at the moment it is glitched so that Beholder's attack buff will only be cast if the buff's att bonus is higher than blood's att boost (or whatever attack potion you're using).
You run into this problem if Beholder's Buff is under level 14 IIRC.

also late answer here, in actuallity, it seems soul driver beats every DrK technique mob wise (sacrifice has it's own tier of OP-ness for itself) however, spear buster vs SD is a small victory margin for SD not factoring criticals (since dragon techs get 30% more crit, this could be big) and polearm buster flat out beats SD without crits.

I'd say the opposite. guardians' 42% chance to block attacks is effectively a 42% stance, but more importantly its also 32% resist seduce, which is amazing. with my lvl 12 stance (54% chance), guardian's 42% block rate and Divine Shield's 6 guards, that's a very good KB prevention. As a paladin i think 94% stance is unneccessary when you have guardian and DS. After I max achiles i'll bring stance up to lvl 20 (74% chance), i cant see any reason why more then that is necessary with guardian.
Also, (imo) blast before achiles. tanking is nice but blast outputs the rediculous damage that makes staying alive... actually worth it, especially if you can get your hands on a crit ring and SE in the party. 88% crit rate? OH GOD YES.
oh, and if you're serious on being all tanky, a +1 seconds of invincibility top is amazing. I can only dream what a +2 would be like...

So my WK advanced to Paladin last night and I am kinda stuck with skills. I got 1 rush and 1 blast on level up and have the third point saved still. I do not have acb yet, zakum is mean to me  . My pally is a ua, so i have driver and dunno if maxing acb first is worth it like a driverless pally would. I was thinking about maxing blast or even stance first. Anyone able to offer some insight? thanks.

ACB: 10 points, and you get 20% mastery (24 with CO) yes, it's not only worth it, it's required. get it. even for dark knights, our biggest damage increase is 1 zerk 10 beholder, and that is just because zerk affects all our skills. blast doesn't, acb does.

You can get by without ACB for a while as you're a UA Pally (I have one too!) I only managed to get my ACB book at late 13x, before that i maxed out devine shield 1st, then proceeded to start maxing blast, added a point into guardian and HH.
ok i just re-read that and it sounded confusing so i'll just show you what i did
120: 1 blast, 1 rush, 1 heavens hammer(you don't have to do this, you can put it straight into Divine Shield)
121: 3 into DS
122: 3 into DS
123: 3 into DS
124: 1 DS, saved 2 points
125-127: saved 10 points for when i would get ACB and added 1 to blast
128-138 maxed blast, and got acb so maxed that right away
139-148: maxed stance
149-160(my current lv) accidentally added into HH which is now capped at 10 and maxed guardian.
I wouldn't get Holy charge very early on. The monsters you'll most probably be training on are bearwolves and crockys which are fire weak. also after 160-ish it's just personal preference. if you decide you want to start training at Golems instead of bears then Holy charge, if you decide to do big bosses like czak and HT/CHT then Achillies would be useful, or you could go for HH, which is 1m damage every 20secs at max on 15 targets.

Thanks for the help guys. 10 points isnt a whole lot considering how fast you level in lhc, so ill just save for acb whenever i am able to get it.

I recommend you still max ACB as soon as you can. +24% mastery with CO on is a HUGE help (and it makes everyone jealous of your amazingly stable damage). If you don't feel like hunting for ACB, then just max out Divine Shield, but you should still max out ACB as soon as you get the chance.

I second this. while blast is amazing in an of itself, ACB not only does great damage that mastery bump is just so lovely. i personally went DS first (because i couldnt find ACB, and this was pre-LHC) and found DS to be a very interesting change of pace since it encouraged avoiding damage lest my DS charges go poof, but considering how quickly my guard charges get wiped out at bearwolves, i find DS to be far less necessary now.
question - I see a lot of love for stance over guardian....why...? I mean im clearly just in love with guardian but still. I'm just not seeing how the extra 48% reduced KB chance (guardian's 42% chance to block is effectively 42% stance) is worth it over 32% seduce resistance (and avoiding 1/1s with guardian). excuse my hissy fit, it just bugs me.
