Why the nose bleeds?

Just a noob question I have that i've never understood.

Why do characters, in japanese animes, always get nosebleeds whenever they see a pretty girl? Their nose shoots out with blood and they get tossed back.

I thinks it because all the blood rush's to there head.

It's a Japanese folklore thing.

The frequent nosebleeds (and subsequent embarassment) of male anime characters are related to a folk-belief that sexual excitement in men leads to a change in blood-pressure, which in turn can cause a nose-bleed. There's a subsidiary belief more profuse the flow, the greater the excitement.

This is especially true in the anime "Love Hina". Youtube it and watch, and you'll see.

It's a euphemism for a boner.

I dont know if it's true in reality but yea as Spaz pointed out, the blood rush in the head caused by sexual excitement is the cause.
