I'm not insecure -- I like the things I like, I just recognise that some of those things are complete garbage and as such, I should keep it to myself that I enjoy them. I also recognise that being embarrassed by those things is natural, because what society thinks absolutely matters. My ability to compartmentalize my life has allowed me countless opportunities, and has created a space for me as a respectable member of society. I also recognise that not everyone is going to accept that I like [x] thing, even if it's silly for them not to. That doesn't make them bad people, or unworthy of my friendship. We all have opinions. I don't subject my friends to things they don't care about, it's a mutual respect. By no means does this mean I'm acting as someone I'm not. This is exactly who I am, and I'm proud of it. I've also been incredibly successful in most things, as well. So as far as I'm concerned, this is the right way to live. I've never seen someone who never stops talking about pomegranate no one cares about in the same position as me, and I'm pretty sure there's a good reason for that.

HNNNGGGG, I made the mistake of unblocking a few of her posts ITT, and that last sentence is really baiting at me.
Nothing good ever comes from perpetuating drama; I have to tell myself this at times, and now is one of those times ;_;

When I liked Maple Story on fb all I found was some old friends still play, and some new friends do play.

The only reason I shower, is because my hair gets really itchy and greasy if i don't even do it for one day( I have long hair), it gets extremely annoying to tolerate, and there is the natural thought that you wouldn't want to burden someone else with going near you and having to take time out of their day to smell how disgusting you smell.
This is not about something so extreme though, this is about liking things that we enjoy and how we present that into society. Unless I go and grab my friends by the shirt and say ''I LIKE MAPLESTORY, PLAY IT'' 30 times a day, or anything stupid like that, I always tell then ''I like games'', and ''I play Maplestory''. I have never had anyone perform a stage-comedy to show how funny they sound telling me the things I like are garbage. If I go up to a boy, and he tells me he likes Knitting, what am I gonna do, call him a papaya and that knitting is something he should be embarrassed about? Now, if this boy came up to me and said ''CRONNO, YOU GOTTA TRY KNITTING IT'S SO FUN'', and I tell him ''No thanks'' and he persistently shoves it in my face, this is a different story. But I do not find any embarrassment or anything to even be ashamed of in this act.

Knitting is a bad example because it's badass so let's use the example I provided early because it's technically the same as playing maplestory:
If you were licking the sole of a foot out in public then people would have every right to look down on you and you absolutely should be ashamed for doing it. Anyway, let's move on from the shame and answer a real, valid question... Why would you inflict MapleStory upon your friends. Best case scenario, someone you really care about joins and wants to play with you. MapleStory is garbage with no fun aspects (currently). Then there's dealing with Nexon. You're essentially introducing your friends to a pimp/drug dealer who is guaranteed to treat them poorly and only make their lives miserable. I LIKE CRACK, YOU WANT A HIT? Absolutely no good can come of this.

Again, it's not something that someone would look down upon. Rather something that's ignorable. However, like your attitude on this matter, which is really annoying, it's apparently something you like, so I am not going to look down on you for it.
And, to a casual gamer, Maplestory has had a lot of enjoyable features for my friends, it was the social experience that counted more than Nexon's incompetence, most games these days suck. They're just graphically enhanced games that you can beat in 5 hours and never touch again. EDIT: And for the matter, there are quite a few people out there with foot fetishes.

Hell my two friends who introduced me to the damn game 6 years ago saw I liked it on FB and even came back to play.

Just because you like it does not mean you're shoving it in all your friend's faces. Maybe one of your friends will see it and ask about it, maybe you'll say a few things about it, maybe you'll shout how wonderful beautiful and awesome it is. However those who act like annoying twats are only an embarrassment to themselves, liking MapleStory in a public setting is not an embarrassment in itself.

Some of the people on my FB friends list "liked" the Maple page despite having moved on to WoW back in 2007. Not a f'uck was given by anyone on their 300+ strong friends list that day lol. A "like" on Facebook has very few connotations attached to it and has virtually no power on its own. It's just a "like", does't define a person as a whole, anyone who sees it would most likely just acknowledge it, maybe ask you about it if they're really that interested, and move on with their lives. It's about as intrusive as an infrequent flyer through your door; pick it up, go "fascinating" then dispose of it.
Also I log on to FB once every 2 weeks at best, so I'll pass.

I'm sort of with Sarah on this one. I have friends, I go out and socialize etc. but no one that I hang out with knows I play Maplestory or other games online.
If I told them I played, would they judge me? Probably just laugh about it and shrug it off and life would go on but it's something I don't feel the need to bring up because it's basically a guilty pleasure I don't want people knowing about me. Yes, I do care a lot about what people think of me. I can admit I am insecure at times, although I do agree that being aware of what others think of you is a good thing unless you're fine with being a loner and not having friends. There's nothing wrong with putting a limit on how much you share your life with others. I have no need to tell anyone about my gaming habits, and Maplestory is a kiddie looking game that has turned pretty shitty anyway so yes I am embarrassed that I do play it sometimes. I keep my gamer life completely separate from my social life because I have no desire to combine the two.

There is a HUGE difference in the way these ideals are presented. Do you think Maplestory is an embarrassment and that you should not expose the fact that you play it to other people? Fine. Are you claiming it's an outright truth that Maplestory is a purely embarrassing game to play? I don't think so unless I read wrong. If people feel insecure about what they do in life, that's normal and fine. Don't, however, start going everywhere and actually lecturing other people on how it is humiliating and pathetic to expose your interests into other people. I don't care what other people think about me, and, believe it or not, a lot of people respect that in real life.

Not really interested in this, nor am I comfortable with publicly liking Maplestory. Facebook games aren't for me.
