I wonder what's classified as 200+%, because I know 2-3 people in my guild that are pushing slightly under or at that % or just over it.

Actually, you're wrong. And it is not making an excuse.

Dusk Wrote:Oh look, the MTS argument again. You're probably failing to realize that as long as MapleStory is running and people are playing this game, your tradeable in-game items have real worth. If you have a weapon that can sell for 100k NX, then that weapon is worth $100. Yeah sure, it's against the ToS to actually perform that trade, but the entire reason the MTS can exist is that there are people are willing to pay $100 for that weapon, and people willing to sell it for $100. Now what happens when you actually sell that weapon by using the MTS? The buyer receives their item, Nexon pockets 7500 (iirc) NX, and you only receive 92.5k of that NX. Who actually wins here? Nexon, as usual.
"But wait," you say. "I still got my NX, and I didn't use any of my real life money! The person who bought the weapon was lazy, and I worked hard for that item. As long as you work hard, you can still play this game without spending your own money." Yeah, keep pretending people like you don't represent a pitifully small portion of the population and that whatever means of acquiring that in-game money that you are using is even close to being worth the amount of time and energy required to obtain it through legitimate means, in terms of real life currency. As a former hardcore player myself, I know people who were/are willing to farm hours a day to pay for their habit, and people who were/are willing to spend hours a day in the FM making money, competing for shop spots, pondering item investments. If you want to play "gold farm story", that's your choice. Nexon needs those super hardcore stingy players, anyway. They help create demand for the NX in the first place.
I never said anything that meant that what you said wasn't true. I also understand what you're saying about this group of people being very small, but I was merely looking at the bottom line, which is you don't have to spend a single penny on this game to be good as the next person.

While it's true you don't need to spend a single penny, you would still need to spend time. Especially given the OP's decision on whether or not to return to the game, I don't think merching up a couple months just so one can prepare to be pro is the OP's idea of fun let alone a game worth returning to.

Time is money. If you have to spend 40 hours a week farming to equal what someone else is willing to drop 20$ to get in 5 minutes you've justed the equivalent of $290 you could've been earning doing a minimum wage job to earn and spend $20 instead. That's absurd.

So sad yet true. It's a seller's market thanks to how ludicrous the meso:NX rate has gotten. 3-4 hours of work for a $25 card can net me half a billion in Maple? Wow, might as well sell for in-game mesos!

The only thing that ''not using nx'' is good for in Maplestory is:
1. A sense of achievement(lol, people feel that playing the game normally is a difficult thing to achieve, that says something)
2. Pride, which is sadly always combined with the first one, I usually see ego-maniacs(ironically) being the ones who hate nx cashers the most(this is mainly in-game).
This game is ''play for free, pay to enjoy'', there are of course, people who enjoy the game regardless, but having one person coming up and saying ''I play for free, haven't spent nx for the 200 thousand years I've been playing and I've done good'', but do these people reallllllllly count? I mean, you always have at least one or two of them in every thread on the subject, which compared to the rest seems really small.

Though, when you are content with your equips, say you have a respectable 35%, you can put a stop to your NX buying and keep playing forever for free. Whereas pre-bb you still "needed" 2x exp cards till forever.
Also, I still know many people that played for years without buying NX (or MTS'ing).
I think the game has become cheaper, if you don't care too much about damage. (Everybody does on some level, but some care more and some care less.)

I don't really care either way, but for bosses that are already soloable, no such accommodations, of "I can kill mob's" really apply anymore. This is my rule of thumb;
Excluding leons castle
1 hit your training monster, above average
2 hit your training monster, average
3 hit your training monster, get better gear.
Pro is when you measure how fast you solo bosses, it shows your efficiency. Though I don't agree with it, its what the game has become.
My impression is that if you have 3% stats on most of your gear (~24%) you're above average. 50%, combined with decent w.atk, puts you in the pro range. Granted I mostly train with people in the 120-140 range. Average I would peg around 12-15%.
The community whose standard is 100% to be above average is a minority, and it's pretty safe to ignore them unless you are 180+ & want to fight PB.

Khaini, you serious bro?
You've been away from the majority too long. 100% stats is not average. most don't have over 30. Whenever i step back into the game on my essentially Potential-less characters with gear spread around all over i'm above average at the 130s and below and my net worth is like 1.3b. and most of that isn't even in gear. There are a huge amount of players who cant cobble together 100 mil let alone sizeable amounts of NX.
And berzerk, heres looking at you. The MTS is a lose for everyone but Nexon. And for whoever was talking about holding out for CTR, until some crazy pomegranate hits the fan and people stop using MTS every damn day we will never get cash trade. Never. Mts is a pineappleing golden goose for nexon compared to that pomegranate. Nexon America is the worst nexon (brazil doesnt even count s'hits not even a real company). Get used to it.

To have godly damage you need to buy like $1000-3000 worth of cubes depending on your luck.
MS is getting closer to p2p everyday, but unfortunately that does not equal good service. Exploits, hackers and bugs all around. The market is completely screwed and Nexon is making it worse. Most of the rich people are money launderers or NX hoes and it is insanely hard for anyone legit to get enough mesos for something good without using tons of real life cash on NX.
If you are planning on returning, I would suggest you to turn around right now.

At the same time, don't let these flaws scare you, it is true that you can ''play without having the game be another form of labor'' if you do invest in given pieces of equipment. People say MoN's are a piece of crap these days, but I find that they're darned good enough for what I need them for, most of my equips either have 3% or 6% str on them, and I'm a bucc. I pretty much 1-2hit all of the mobs that are my level(LHC not included), and I probably won't ever have to spend a dime again unless I want to go to the highest thing Maplestory has to fight(Pink Bean or Empress).
However, people have been getting banned for no reason(I have been banned for lagging(SERIOUSLY), thankfully it was only for a month, it is certainly not a good use of money to put effort into your character, then get perma-banned through Nexon's failure to secure their game.
Also, NX is now permanent for the first week it's released, so anything new (costumes) that are released are there forever, although I liked the old permanent system much better.
Also, don't listen to anyone who says the MTS can make you money. The phrase ''you have to spend money to make money'' plays a key role here, the only ways I have ever gained NX through the MTS is selling PAC's that were scrolled nicely, gotten massive stacks of scrolls(even this is no good anymore), or selling SCG's(or another attack glove to that effect). Be prepared to seriously waste a lot of un-needed time to actually get money in another way through this stupid, taxed-up-the-ass system.
There are still some things Maplestory is fun for, and your mileage will simply vary depending on your luck when taking Nx into consideration.

I would tell you to come back when hackers don't control the economy. But that'll never happen until Nexon does something about it, and it's getting worse every year, so that'll never happen. Not all of maple is revolved around mesos and damage, it's also based on who you know. You can solo most bosses now, the only ones you will have trouble with is VOn Leon, Chaos Zakum and Horntail (Horntail is glitched anyway so bleh). I say come back if the you don't mind the cost of being nice. If you just want to play for fun and don't care about damage then come back, but at least have decent damage. The game is no fun when you're weak compared to everyone and you can't do anything.

But you don't need godly damage. Erebus asks if he can get into boss runs without spending a lot of money, and you can. Except maybe Pink Bean and in the future (lol, pun) The Empress but those don't count for except for the 180+ players in the first place. And even then I am sure if you make good friends you can get in on Pink Bean runs even if your damage "sucks".
Sure, you can drop 1000 on the game and have damage like that Dual Blader, but, what is the point? You can do the same thing in a private server. And no matter what anyone says there is no difference.
So, yes, the game is cheaper for the normal players. For the players that just have to have overbearing damage? No, it costs more than ever.

Then you effectively limit yourself to content that is 4 years old. Sure, you don't need to get good gear. You don't need to make the 4th job advancement. You don't need to scroll your equips. You can still train and clutter boss rooms.
Only reason this way of thinking is valid at all is because the game doesn't push you to reach level 200 or fight the endgame bosses at all. A lot of people seem to be content doing nothing but grinding at slow ass rates and killing Zak every now and then.

Sorry, but I don't agree. I have average gear and I can take part in all content the game has to offer besides Pink Bean and only because I am not 180+.

in the end, contacts > power, if you know nobody, you'll go nowhere, of course, power helps. i am not even above 50% str, which is considered "way above average" and i do from czak's to VL's. no HT's because scania sucks :X
however, if you want to increase your power... yea, nt gonna be cheap, you better ready our wallet, or your merching skills

Jeeze, I quit with like 124% str and I still felt I was barely above average.
