I recently bashed my way past some of my older backlog.
Beyond Good and Evil
I picked this up a while back because of all the things I heard about it being left out in the cold despite being a really good game. And after beating it I can see that all the things I heard about it were pretty right. It was a fun and engrossing little game, my final save file showed that I had played it for 20 hours and it didn't even seem like that long. The story was pretty nice, and I enjoyed the mini-games as well.
Grim Grimoire
Cute little RTS game that became decently challenging around the end.
Indigo Prophecy
I find this game hard to judge. After playing it and beating it I have to buy into that whole interactive film thing they wanted it to be called by. As I was playing in the game it did feel more like a movie than anything, and while the makes the gameplay part of the game weak the experience it gives is pretty nice. And while too many games have QTE lately I enjoyed how they used them since they made the player take a deeper part in the game without the use of motion controls or the like. I didn't like the R1/L1 events so much, but I read somewhere that they're meant to make you feel physical exertion, and I have to believe that. All in all while it may not be a "video game" I enjoyed it.
Rez
This is a fun short little trippy shooter with nice beats.
Shadow of the Colossus
Another one that is kind of hard to put into a genre. While it is most obviously action-adventure the way the game shows itself off seems to put it in a different genre all together. I really enjoyed the game. And time attack is one of the best unlockables in a game since it allows you to go right to a colossus without riding around. While I enjoyed the riding around it could get annoying at a lot of times since the horse is so stupid, I read somewhere they did this on purpose since a horse isn't a car, and while a horse isn't a car it is obviously that none of Team Ico have rode on a horse before, or the Wander is a horrible trainer.
Final thing that I want to say is that the ending was kind of surprising and shocking. I mean, you expect something bad to happen to the Wander, but the way it went about it made it all pretty surprising. And while I kept expecting her to wake up at the moment she did it wasn't unexpected. Plus, maybe I just have a thing for long endings. And the fact that the ending is the only real story we get might have helped as well. But the ending was still pretty good in my opinion.
