Legend of Zelda thread

Uh, what? I don't think I'm a Zelda fan because I played a game once and liked it. I've discussed the story lines and time lines with friends countless and countless times. It took no more than 5 minutes to type that all out.

And yeah, okay. Each game is completely different from eachother. That means Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have absolutely no relation. The Legend of Zelda nd Link's Adventure have no relation whatsoever.

Hell, that Temple of Time you see in Twilight Princess? Even though it LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE IN OCARINA OF TIME, but is all crumbled and abandoned after hundreds of years, it's not the same thing.

The sacred forest in A Link to the past? lolno... not the same one in Twilight Princess. The fact that they both house the Master Sword is a major coincidence.

Even the development teams for the Legend of Zelda have mentioned each game is a part of a bigger story. That's why each one is so different. That's why WE'RE GETTING A PREQUEL TO THE SERIES CALLED SKYWARD SWORD, which entails how the Master Sword was created and whatnot.

It is all well and good man, but it does not make the Zelda series some kind of epic genius treasure mound of story. It is very straight forward and simple, and that is one of its charms. To say it is devoided of story is dumb, but to say it has a rich story is equally dumb. The backstory tells us what, why and how in a mood creating fashion, but there are almost zero character development or ways to get deeper into what drives them.

I never said that either. I'm just stating that most of the games do have a story and some of the games piece together different parts of the timeline of the Legend of Zelda franchise.

With Sarah saying each one is its separate entity, telling on side of the tale... that's a stupid argument. You can't have a game like Wind Waker explaining things that happened in Ocarina of Time if they're two different sides of the same coin, because that information wouldn't be available to that universe. A lot of the games are obvious sequels and prequels to eachother.

I always thought the Minnish made the Master Sword o_O

Edit: Oh never mind, I was thinking of the Four Sword.

Actually, they made the Picori Blade. The Picori Blade sealed away the powers which Vaati obtained after winning some championship and breaking the blade. Link took the blade to the Picori and received directions on how to restore it. After adding elements to it or whatever, it became the Four Sword.

In my honest opinion, Minish Cap →→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→ Phantom Hourglass →→→→→Spirit Tracks

I hated the whole stylus thing, but Phantom Hourglass was alright. I didn't like Spirit Tracks at all. :X

Phantom Hourglass was after Windwaker right? Which was in turn after OoT. I haven't played any of the DS titles. They seemed kinda gimicky.

If you liked spirit track that much, you'll cream your pants when you'll play OoT or Twilight Princess.

But most won't notice any story, which is my point. They'll focus on what they actually experience: The gameplay and crap.

Zelda's story isn't an obvious one when you're playing it. It's basically like Kingdom Hearts's where it's sort of disconnected here and there, pretty abstract, having to piece together each puzzle piece until you get a decent story, but you really won't even understand unless you paid attention to every detail since the late 80s/early 90s till this day.

You expect kids these days to know what the pineapple Kingdom Hearts's story is about? Hell no, most people don't even understand that pomegranate, and it's the same for Zelda. Over the years it's like, ''who the pineapple gives a pomegranate anymore about where the story is going?''. I mean, I love Zelda and all or I wouldn't have played it all these years, eating up all the games like it's shrimp, and I even have a Link skin on Minecraft, but I just don't think there's much real story experience when actually playing most of the games. A story is only really most apparent in Majora's Mask where you get to ''get personal'' with the NPCs in the game, learn about them, how they interact with each other, and how your actions affect them, etc. It even gets pretty emotional at certain points. The other Zelda's don't reach this kind of story... they just don't.

Even the story behind why the Skull Kid was the way he was is pretty sad.

Whether kids these days see it or not, they're there and Majora's Mask isn't the only one with an "apparent story." Wind Waker and Twilight Princess pretty much throw it all at you. I mean, if you're going to go around to the different NPCs in Majora's Mask and read all of their text, you're obviously going to read the story line presented to you in bold print and with cutscenes in Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. lol

Hell, Twilight Princess gives the biggest clues to the entire Zelda series, as far as I can remember. It covers the Occoco creation of the Hylians + Hyrule, it covers what happened after Link left Hyrule in OoT without having defeated Ganondorf, it tells of the great war with magic, it even tells us the history of the Twilight Realm. :|

You guys just need to watch the fanmade Zelda timelines by Lancun and trueedge2097. Even if you deny the Zelda series from having any kind of derivative storyline, it's there and these two guys explain it fully and clearly while backing their own theories in the process.

The KH point is sort of wrong. Kingdom hearts, while yes is played for the gameplay, is also played for the story. Every single numbered title (as well as BBS) rewards players for completing certain gameplay challenges with... more story. The secret reports and the secret movie at the end of them are all there for anyone who wants to find them. It's not the gravy on the cake, but the prize itself, IMO.

For something like the fantasy genre of games, solid gameplay just doesn't cut it by itself, it has to work in tandem with a solid and appealing story.

Every single Zelda games was made to fit into the overall canon of the series, so to say that the story is not paid attention to is sort of absurd. And yes, the timeline exists officially, Nintendo just doesn't want anyone to know it.

Indeed. Kingdom hearts have a vast story and characters develompment (though it started to become retarded with the second installment), whereas Zelda is lacking. If you play KH without understanding it, maybe you should play Tetris instead.
Also, if it takes two extreme fanboys to dig out such a simple thing as how the Zelda games are connected, maybe Nintendo might want to consider another approach in the future. Or we will all just keep playing and loving the games without ever giving a rotten fig for the simple little tale.

You can see the Moon from Majora's Mask on Death Mountain in Twilight Princess.

True story.
