Strictly from an educational standpoint, he IS correct that homosexuals cannot reproduce and therefore there is no reason to bring it up in a course about reproduction, but it certainly needs to at least be discussed SOMEWHERE in school.

It's sex ed, not reproduction ed. Even though reproduction is a major part of it, it's not the only goal of the class. With this line of thinking, you'd take STD discussion away from the class as well, which is arguably the most important subject to learn in the course. Homosexuals need to learn about certain things as well.
For instance, some may thing that because there's no chance of pregnancy, there's no reason to use a condom for gay male sex. This is actually something that I'd think would actually be okay for teens to not know at that age simply because nobody talks about that kind of stuff. Then when they end up having a fun night with someone they don't know has an STD, they get hit by a nasty surprise. It's something that should be obvious but may be overlooked in the heat of the moment.

Whoever said to blame the Catholic Church and Republicans as a whole for this is just as bad as the specific people themselves for saying all gays are horrible and flamboyant. I can't say i'm a big fan of the Ultra-Conservatives that pretty much are the reason this bill and any other bill against things against the Church, but calling all of them that is still prejudice.

My apologies for not posting a giant red "GENUINE SARCASM" stamp at the bottom of the post to make it clear that's what it was

The amount of Lady Gaga you talk about actually makes your post appear completely genuine and believable.

Not really. Sounds like you're perfectly normal and just like most everyone else.

song sucks anyway. Just from a musical standpoint. If kids were to turn gay to a soundtrack the world would be better served if they did it to queen.
More on topic, this is pretty much retarded. Its just going to be more taboo and therefore more discussed outside of classrooms now. they're just shooting themselves in the foot. with an RPG.

Would it not be more sensible just to require parental consent before teaching about homosexuality? We do this for general sex-ed so I recall...

As a Tennessean and someone who struggles with sexuality daily, this bill makes me want to rage. Thankfully though, the Tennessee General Assembly officially stopped convening earlier this week, so this bill won't reach the full House until January. Also, this bill only applies for K-8, and to my knowledge sex-ed doesn't start in Tennessee schools until high school (at least in my district we started in 9th grade).
If you want to know more, including the amendments to the bill, here's the official page on the TGA website. Clickity click click

This is sp stupid on so many levels. If anything it'll give kids the wrong perception. "Oh they must be bad if we can't talk about it." To censor the whole State is just retarded.
