Training Reference For All Magicians
#61
spiders should have a %. 25% an hour at 8x should deserve a %. my i/l was 2old4birks when leafre came out but it looks really crappy for me. scattered spawn, wide map like grims but people actually train there. not sure if its actually good or if people are just there because they can see some big damages due to ice weakness.

I think WS might be worthy of a blue % past level 8x. I'll go back to them, I'm sure, but at 76-79 it just seemed so slow trying to kill them, I wasn't getting good exp at all. They also have only 350 MP, so we can't leech much mana from them, and their invulnerability glitch means we (or I, at least) get hit more than we'd like to in certain areas of the map, which means more potions used. They could possibly be worthy of a blue $ because they do tend to drop good mesos and the mythical Ilbi, but I don't think you really make a huge profit there if you don't find stars.

WS have no ranged attack, but their ability to just ignore you is a pain if you land in a mob. Birks do have one, of course, and it's strong but not a 1HKO. If they're frozen, however, not a problem. Smile I think this map is better for mixed class training in parties, for example with my Hermit buddy we go through them pretty quickly, and having them frozen really helps her a lot. WS might be better for classes that can split the map, such as two I/L or party with a warrior that can kill them in 1-2 hits.

I should do some information-gathering here. If I grind on each of these for 30 minutes and track EXP and mesos earned, I'll have a better idea than just "how it feels" and know which one is faster/better. I'm level 80 at the moment and I don't have any godly equipment. I'll get back to you with the results in a day or two.

I almost forgot to mention, I should do the same with the Firebrand & Stormbreaker cave in Crimsonwood. I've spent a lot of time there lately; the exp seems good and you basically use zero mana potions because Firebrands have 5000 MP in their first form, 10,000 in the second form, and give a total of 3260 EXP if you kill both forms. Stormbreakers have 5000 MP and give 1650 EXP. This means if you have MP Eater at any level you should be keeping your mana bar full every time you AoE a group of them. Firebrands are weak to ice (duh!) so even though they are level 90 they are easy to take down using Ice Strike.

All right, I spent some time measuring EXP and pure meso gain in 30-minute sessions, and here's what I found.

Character info: Level 80, Magic = 517 with Meditation, 28 points in Ice Strike & 3 in Elemental Amplification.

Exp GainedMesos Gained%Exp/hrMeso/hr
Birks (Crossroads)334,87269,13519.04138,270
Harps (Sky Nest II)326,44993,37018.56186,740
Red Kentaurus (Area of Red Kent.)392,00072,12522.29144,250
Wolf Spiders (Wolf Spider Cavern)305,596148,78217.37297,564
Firebrands & Stormbreakers (Cavern of Fear)406,92045,94823.1491,896

Meso measurements are just from what I picked up, and do not include selling any drops. I have a pet that's equipped for easier looting.

From this, we see that (for me, anyway) hunting Firebrands and Stormbreakers in the Cavern of Fear exceeds all others in terms of EXP per hour. Wolf Spiders are the clear winner for looting mesos. Both have some potentially profitable drops, as well.

The paltry mesos from FB+SB could be offset by the fact that it's very cheap to train there. They all have huge mana levels, so even if MP Eater isn't maxed (mine is) you'll be draining lots of MP from them, basically only needing HP potions. I used two Mana Bulls between getting there and training there for 30 minutes, and 17 pizzas. At any other training spot mentioned here, I was taking enough damage that MP potions had to be used as well.

^when my i/l was level 80, 80% of those places you test wasnt available for me since it was not out. this post

was written based on that fact. but i find it interesting that you would've only gotten 17% an hour. i didnt think the gap between luk and lukless to be so huge.

i didnt time my time at spiders exactly. from memory, i remember during the 2x exp events i would be able to get one level up in that 2 hours of 2x. thats 0 to 100%.

It's quite possible that you were more familiar with the best way of "working" the spider map; what I have been doing is going to one side, clearing the top "leg" moving toward the center, repeating for the next leg down, then going to the bottom and cleaning out the mob that has formed by then. Next, I repeat for the other side. I'm usually solo, but if partied I would probably have the other person (assuming not an I/L) stay up in the legs, and I'd stick to the bottom with the huge mobs. I haven't spent much time there, and I would totally not be surprised if there's a better way to solo WS. Biggrin

As for LUK vs. LUKless, my points are probably screwed up somehow. Wink I think I have 73 base LUK. I can use a Dark Ritual (borrowed) as long as I don't take off my Z-helm, and I'm still wearing my 7x clothing. I haven't added LUK since 70, though, and will probably reset some later depending on what I decide for "end-game" equipment.

My friend likes to spam blizzard at gobis. It's not as bad as you guys think. He used to do hardcore blizzard spamming at wolf spiders at 17x - for ilbis with 2x drop. Now he found out at 18x that blizzard at gobis is good meso and decent exp. (not as good as harps in terms of exp but better for mesos). I've heard that he got 5 60% overall INT scrolls in 4 hrs of 2x. That is better than the ilbi drop rate. ~worth 100m total in bera + mesos from the fish.

It's an awesome money spot. Pretty fun too. I've tried. High level spots need more variety. I hope you add that Sad

Not sure how accurate that would be - i misted bone fish from 8x to 116ish and got 2 60% overall ints the entire time. Unless they changed the drop rates since leafre came out I wouldnt count on getting that many int scrolls.

Slimies in the Ghost Ship are apparently good for 6x and early 7x I/L's (my friend says they're Lightning weak). They should be good for Clerics in that level range too.

EDIT: Also, I train at Psycho Jacks on my level 26 Magician, and it's great EXP, but I burn pots like crazy.

I agree. For the last bishop/priest/cleric section, shouldn't skele saurus/gons have a %? :f6:

I just have a question about the limitation of our stats as Magicians. AS EVERYONE KNOWS we depend a 99% on our INT and LUK just for equipments... My questions is (and I think only a level 200 lukless magician would be able to answer with the absolute truth) What's the level cap for our stats? Does it have a level limit? THANK YOU

I am pretty sure the cap for INT is 999. Thats before equipment (and/or 999 base int)

Probably because this guide is no longer updated... at least, it hasn't been in months.

Maybe it needs a new maintainer.
