How does Southperry feel about Let's Plays?
#1
Being kind of bored I thought I might try a text one for Southperry. But I don't know how Southperry feels about Let's Plays or if I can make it funny/interesting. Plus I don't know if it would be better to post here or in the Funhouse since there might be double posting.

Text as in post form? It's usually more fun if it's real time, so either IRC or some live chat with a microfone would be more interesting.

What game are you thinking about?

I think they are beyond pointless. Why would I want to watch someone else play a game, and listen to them talk (depends on the recorder I guess) while they're playing? If people are interested enough to sit there and watch a person play a game then I don't understand why they wouldn't just play it themselves.

The only time I'll watch another person play vidya is if they make a game out of the game. For example, there's this one guy whose streams I watch now and then, and no matter what game he plays he makes it balls to the wall difficult for himself. Last time I watched him play, he was playing through Twlight Princess wearing iron boots and using the wooden sword the entire time. And yes, he did beat Zant and Ganon under these ridiculous limitations. The guy literally spent 6 hours on one of the puzzles until the viewers told him to take the boots off so he could proceed. Guy's a champ.

So yeah, unless you are hardcore like that guy then I would have a difficult time watching you play video games.

Tip: Never play an RPG.

No one wants to watch you grind all day.

Good commentators make let's plays good. It's all about the commentator, it's the same reason i watch starcraft streams and starcrafts matches. It's fun because of good commentators.

Some games can be fun to watch people play, for example I Wanna Be The Guy is always fun to have someone start playing it and see them suffer =D

You watch or read about a person who plays a video game.

Resident Evil Code: Verconia X. Not an original choice, but I've never played it before and I hear it is suppose to be hard your first try. Also, IRC is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that.

Eh, I think you're right. I don't even know how to make it interesting beyond being creeped out and dying.

Then all people should play a Horror Game they have never played before and being in Ventrilo or some kind of Voice chat.

For it to be fun at least 1 or 2 people should be a total wuss Tongue

If you are gonna supply us with video of you playing, why not also have your voice?

Also, have you played IWBTG? That one's fun.

Video commentaries aren't the same as LPs. LPs are usually about as interesting as watching over someone's shoulder while they're playing a game. Unless it's something like I Wanna Be The Guy as mentioned above when you've played it and you KNOW what's going to happen when they walk under that apple, it's usually pretty boring, even if the commentary is good. I don't watch LPs.

Commentaries are reviews of pre-recorded material where either you or someone else played through a game or a match, and they can be interesting, especially if you cut out boring parts and/or use your knowledge/expertise to highlight things that the average viewer wouldn't otherwise pay attention to.

Other things that can be interesting to watch are speed runs and perfect runs.

How about a Let's Play of an old PS1 or N64 game? >_>

I don't have anything to record the game with sadly. And while it is a good idea to get on a voice chat for it I don't have a working mic.

I was just, you know, going to do a text one like I said. Though in hindsight I guess it would be boring with me just explaining what is going on in the game without any voice or video. And, yes, I've played IWBTG.

You could do a game review if it's something that most people haven't heard of or played.

JTV Streams say otherwise.
Regardless, I watch said JTV streams when I'm playing games in window mode, Els / Maple, as to keep me from being bored out of my freaking mind.

It is Resident Evil Code: Verconia X so people have heard of it. I was just thinking about playing it and sharing with Southperry if they wanted.

I only watch LPs if I've either already played the game, I've no interest in trying myself but am interested in others playing (most ROMhacks) or it's too difficult to even try but would like to see others' reactions to it (IWBTG). It really does depend on the person playing, though, because some LPs are just downright boring.

Oh, and like you mentioned, people who add their own twist to the games as well are fun.

What's sometimes better than watching one person play is having another person there with them. It's fun to hear them laugh at the players' expense. :B
