please remember that SONY stooped to unfair legal tactics to implicate geohot, such as sending $1 to his paypal account and using that as evidence to charge him with some form of interstate financial fraud. (EXTREMELY SCUMMY AND PROBABLY ILLEGAL)

they acquired a judge known to side with corporations in an unrelated jurisdiction (EXTREMELY SCUMMY AND PROBABLY ILLEGAL), arguing its legality through a loophole that twitter was located there- and sent geohot a court order to be in a california court at 8AM in the morning, notifying him the night before, for the first hearing. it was impossible for him to make it, even if he would have gotten the first available plane ticket to fly across the country. (EXTREMELY SCUMMY AND PROBABLY ILLEGAL)

SONY then sent many illegitimate DMCA takedown requests (DEFINITELY ILLEGAL) to github and subpoenas to twitter and facebook, abusing the court system to personally identify thousands of unrelated individuals- not so different than what the hackers are doing to them.

geohot had *offered to secure their system*, and this is how they responded.

all he did was take apart something that he purchased and owned.
do you want to own your car and be able to open the hood in the future? or do you want to pay full price and lease it from a company that reserves the right to take it away at any time for any reason?
if you find a flaw in your car and fix it, do you want to be attacked by tactics as unfair as these?

even if you don't agree with the methods used here, don't forget that SONY's own behaviour was just as unlawful and thuggish, and there is no authority keeping them in check.

A spokesperson for Sony Japan has said that the PlayStation Network may not return to full functionality until the end of the month following repeated attacks on Sony's online services.

Sony first took PSN offline on April 20th, shortly after it found out that the system had been compromised by an unknown party. Later attacks have bought the matter to Sony Online Entertainment's other services too.

PSN was originally supposed to have been restored on 3rd May, but that plan went out the window when the second SOE attacks were discovered.

Talking to Bloomberg today, a Sony spokesperson said that the company was still in the process of adopting improved security systems and was planning to restore PSN to full functionality by 31st May.

If Sony holds to that new date then PSN will have been offline for a total of 41 days.

I just want to re-download my games. Sigh

Yea, it is not like this will save the guy sued, or stop companies from doing it to other asshats in the future. In the end the common Joe is the one who suffers.

They confirmed now that PSN will open up at the 31st. I only have a Dutch source so it's not really worth posting. We're getting two free games which we can pick from a list of five. Quite sad, but it's better than nothing. The list isn't released yet, but I hope there are some decent games in it.

I wouldn't care so much if I hadn't spent 60 dollars for a game I can't even play online because of random idiots out there + sony's idiocy not helping in the least. I love MvC3, but there's only so much you can do offline before you start to go insane.

People dont understand that sony was forced to push back the date for brining the psn back up because of hackers. Their SOE servers were still up after psn servers went down then the hackers decided to attack SOE which lead sony to shut that down.

A group of hackers that planned an attack against Sony's servers this weekend was unable to execute its plan.
CNET has learned that our publication of the group's plan may have caused Sony to secure the remaining servers this group claims it had access to, shutting off any avenues for another attack.

Wrote one of the members in the Internet Relay Chat channel the group uses, "Apparently Sony saw that article because the last server that I could access is offline now...its probbaly (sic) being patched like the other servers. There goes our window."

Also imagine how sony would look if their servers got hacked AGAIN after they put it up. So i understand why they want to make it perfect. Cause after it being down for so long they would be done if it was hacked again.

31st is the latest date the PSN will be fully up. Other services (online play) will happen before then.
