Hide and Seek
#1
I've been thinking about a way to run something like this on a forum for a while, but I think I've come up with some rules that will make it possible.
  • The number of players is unlimited, but only those who sign up before the game starts can play
  • All players will have an icon. It will be chosen by them and will act as their proxy, hiding in their place
  • Your icon must be hidden in a post visible to any regular registered member
  • You cannot hide your icon within spoilers, images, or any other place.
  • Your icon must be in plain sight within the post you've hidden it.
  • You can use blogs, stickies, or regular posts made within the last two weeks or first 3 pages of any sub-forum, whichever comes first*
  • You may have a friend hide your icon in one of their posts to prevent people from just looking through your post history
  • You may work in teams, but remember, you're in it to win it, so in the end it all comes down to you
  • After hiding, you must send me link to your hiding place via PM. This is to prevent future cheating. If your hiding place is exceedingly difficult to find, I may ask you to move it.
  • If too much time passes with very few discoveries, I will start releasing hints. They will be cryptic.
  • All players will be both hiding and seeking.
  • You will gain a point for every discovered icon. The winner will be the person with the most discoveries.
  • All icons will be posted in the discussion thread so players know what they are searching for.
  • Players will be allowed to gloat about their finds as long as they do not talk about where the found them in the topic.
  • Players can also contact other players in private to trade locations, as allowed by the teamwork rule. Just keep in mind that you're playing to win. Try to evaluate scores before making any decisions.

*The cut-off date will be chosen by me before we begin.

Anyone who is interested can sign up here. We'll see how this goes.

Let see if I understand this correctly:

Seeker is to find everyone's icons, which are somewhere in this site.
Icons must be able to be seen without clicking anything on that page.

How are hiders going to win?

Everyone is a seeker as well as a hider. The person to find the most icons is the winner.

Okay then.

Although I don't post much, but I'm in.

I assume everyone will be given clues about hiding place? Or picture of the icons?

Post by proxy. Perhaps one of your ex-modmates will hide an icon for you.

Also this will likely be a long event, so you can just search whenever you get the chance. Obviously those with more free time will have a greater chance at winning but it's mostly going to be based on luck and/or teamwork.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention: When you find an icon you will pm its location to me and I will award you a point if it is correct. Do NOT post it in the thread. This is a competition and an icon doesn't go out of play when you find it.

edit: @UA: All icons will be posted in the actual game topic so you know what you're looking for. I WILL BE RE-NAMING AND UPLOADING THEM TO ANOTHER SITE SO YOU CANNOT SEARCH FOR THEM BY THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

edit: @Dante: That's a little too much. Having to search through every users VMs would be a little too difficult I think. However, I will give the players the choice now: do you object to hiding in Visitor Messages?

Also what about dummys? Image that look almost the same but has some color off or things missing on it? (Most likely not but asking all things that could be used to play)

Definitely too much for now. If this game goes quickly and smoothly then it's something I will consider for another round, but I feel like this may be already be too much.

How can a person look at an image and say, "Yes! That's an icon. I found you!" Is there some sort of standard for what can or should be chosen as the image? Will you be posting the images in the thread?

I guess you also can't use an image that will blend in with the background, as in, having only a very slightly different color than the background.
I'm having very diabolical ideas right now, but I guess the point is for the icon to be clearly visible once you find the actual location.
