Welcome to AcornStory, our ongoing feature helping players get started in Maple World everything from choosing a class to finding friends to understanding combat to tips for participating in an online community. MapleStory is easy to learn, but once you learn the basics, where do you go and what do you do? Read on to find out!

What language are we speaking again?

One of the toughest challenges for a new MapleStory player has nothing to do with monsters or quests. Rather, many novices are overwhelmed by the language of the game. If someone says youre KS-ing, is that good or bad? If someone wants to meet in the Free Market where is that? When should you CC? Here are ten terms with corresponding definitions and explanations to get you started!

What does that mean?

KS Kill Steal:
You earn experience points for killing monsters, and if two or more players are involved, the experience points are split between them. Kill Stealing is the act of deliberately striking monsters that someone else is attacking in order to steal some of their experience points. Its considered extremely rude; doing so frequently is deemed harassment and is cause for a ban.

CC Change Channel: Each Maple World server is divided into several channels that players can switch between.. In order to play with friends or join a party, everyone must be in the same channel. So, if a player asks you to CC 12, he or she is informing you that you should move to Channel 12 to start your adventure. If someone says CC please, then he or she would like you to change to another channel because they are already training on that map.

PQ Party Quest: A Party Quest is a task given to you by a resident of Maple World. Like an ordinary quest, you will often have to travel elsewhere, defeat monsters, and complete various tasks. The difference between a PQ and a regular quest is that PQs require more than one player to successfully complete. Thus, you'll need to find other members to join up with you to form a party.

More aboutparties and Party Quests

JPQ/RPQ Joining Party Quest/Recruiting Party Quest:
These letter abbreviations are the proper etiquette to use when youre looking to join a Party Quest. JPQ means that youre looking to join an already formed group, while RPQ means that youre starting a group for a Party Quest.

Please be careful not to KS on a PQ. Try to CC before that happens.

Gachapon:
Gachapon (pronounced Gach-a-pahn) are MapleStory versions of classic gumball machines known worldwide. For the cost of NX 1,000, you can use one of the Gachapon machines scattered throughout towns of Maple World. This will get you a randomized item that can range from common food and potion items to some of the rarest weapons and armor in the game. Almost anything can come out of a Gachapon!

Hunting/Training: These two terms are often used interchangeably. Both refer to going to a specific area within Maple World without a quest and killing monsters just for their experience points. Players will often identify particularly good hunting grounds or training grounds where monsters give good experience and are easy to kill.

MTS Maple Trading System: The Maple Trading System is an in-game system that allows players to buy and sell items for NX. It can be accessed via the Trade button on the bottom right side of the game screen. The MTS is a good way to find items offered by players that are not in the Cash Shop, or to get NX for items that you no longer want. Note that there are some special items that cannot be traded on the MTS. The MTS is available in most worlds.

More on the Maple Trading System

Cash Shop: MapleStory is a free-to-play online gaming experience that offers unparalleled adventure and excitement. MapleStorys Cash Shop is an integral part of that experience, offering all kinds of goods such as pets, clothing, skill books, weapon covers, and much more at the click of your mouse.

Guide to the Cash Shop

Free Market: The Free Market is a center of trade as well as a social hub. There is only one Free Market, and it can be accessed from most major towns. This makes it a common place to meet up with friends, get together to trade items, or hang out and socialize. When you leave the Free Market, you will return to the town you entered it from. You even have the option of purchasing stores and store managers in the Free Market to sell items when youre not logged on!

I think this concludes a very heated debate.

Nice timing, Nexon.

They used to have something like 15-20 screens on their site in the "Screenshot" section. This was one of them. I just wonder why they were recycling.

Its good for nostalgia purposes, but most people playing this game would be lost on the reason why they used it.

Neo was right.

'Kill Stealing is the act of deliberately striking monsters that someone else is attacking in order to steal some of their experience points.'

(1) Actually a really good definition for KSing.

(2) Loving the beta ss. Oh wait, did I just use another acronym alien to novice players? #goodlord

What the hell did that SS have to do with PQs? "Please be careful not to KS on a PQ. Try to CC before that happens."

I was going to comment Nexon seemed to be doing better on the Acornstories, then there's this:

"Please be careful not to KS on a PQ. Try to CC before that happens."

WHY. You were doing so well, Nexon!

Yeah Gachapon and Cash shop two very important terms I need to know. ItÂ’s like they tried to start it of seriously then just failed by the end.

Also what a nice up-to-date screenshot, with a great caption under it..

The timing of this is almost scary.

More proof that Nexon doesn't even play their own game.

"Gachapon: Gachapon (pronounced Gach-a-pahn)"

Because you'll have to pahn away all your stuff to get something valuable! *gets shot*

Still confuzzled as to why they would use a picture of people ksing eachother in beta for a segment about a pq

That's not the worse part. KS-ing in a PQ is an oxymoron in itself. Then CC-ing in a PQ, WUT.

I try to avoid complaining about Nexon, but, really, were they too lazy to get a different screenshot?

Only PQ you can KS in is CPQ1/2. CPQ1 requires Robos on room 5/6 to even try KSing on...

It doesn't even LOOK like he's kill-stealing.
