xBTAx Wrote:Keep in mind that Key as a whole wasn't really involved with Angel Beats, though Jun Maeda certainly was. I personally loved it, but it does have its share of problems and I'm not sure how well it'll hold up when you're watching all the episodes together.

It shouldn't be that bad. I just never got into it because I found a lot of characters to be rather bland. Anyways, at episode 12 of Chaos;Head now. I have mixed opinions about it. I'll post what I think later on when I finish the series. It's watchable. Though nothing to be praised.

---------------------
The series started out as a psychological horror or drama to me at first, and as it progressed, leaned towards science-fiction + adventure. There wasn't enough time to really go into details about most of the characters, and that's what bothered me the entire time while watching this. It was more bothersome to realize that a good 3/4th of the chunk was wasted on the protagonist being a moron. The girls are pretty generic, and I wish there was more flavor to them.

The final battle wasn't really as great as I had hoped, seeing as how a good 10-15 minutes was spent getting to the location of the battle, and remaining time concentrated on the actual fight itself. I do like how "Shogun" played a rather large role, though I had wish that they elaborated the final episode a tad more just for him as well as the protagonist. IMO, seems like the protagonist gained Shogun's memory or they sorta merged at the end. Made sense. Sorta.

Some things felt a bit too convenient, like how help was just literally there before the protagonist was about to get killed off, etc. Actually, no, a lot of things seemed overly convenient. I had to question myself at the end: "What the hell did I watch?"

It's not terrible, but there needs to be more development. If I were asked a question on whether I'd rewatch this again, I'd directly say "No". But it's far from being terrible, what kept me interested were the killings at the beginning. My interest slowly died off near the middle, because it became uninteresting. 5/10.

Overall, something that people can watch, though I doubt it'd be watch more than once. Had they expanded a bit more on the story (like how they got the powers to create delusions), as well as the characters, I would have gladly rated this a lot higher. Felt like it lacked a lot. Meh.
Ok. Well, school's almost done for me this semester, so I'll be grinding on a lot of stuff I dropped or put on hold for the past.. god knows how long.

I agree with you about Angel Beats, actually. I'm going to reaffirm and also revise a bit of what I said when this show first ended.

Angel Beats had the potential to have a really interesting story. It's a pity that a lot of that was bungled up with all sorts of plotholes and plothax magic. I felt that Guild was incredibly ridiculous. How'd they fart up a massive underground factory complex? How'd they manage to protect building it while also having to fend off Tenshi and do their night jobs, and why didn't Tenshi just come in and screw the place over when it seemed so easy in Episode 2? In addition, the treatment of the premise wasn't that good either. They would totally change and turn the direction of where the story would go, leaving me to feel like this whole thing was really rushed to fit 13 episodes and the plot as incoherent. There were also stupid things considering how the scale in episode 1 and 2 were so high with all of the explosions and action, whereas in episode 3, the attitude was toned down towards "Let's play a baseball game against Tenshi!"

And that brings me to another point- tone. Angel Beats was confused about this. It was split between being a parody of Haruhi and Evangelion with scattered melancholy, a typical Key drama, and having a somber tone. It never really found a harmony between the serious and not-so-serious that you could find in a show like Haruhi.

Angel Beats had a lot of the human drama that Key, namely Maeda, loves to dabble in with all of the time. Mostly came in the form of episodic sob stories in the form of finding out how they died. Another point in the drama was about coming to terms with how they died and not being able to do something while they were alive. This wasn't too bad to me, and actually one of the better done parts of this series; but to some other people, the drama might come across as forced.

Too many members of the cast felt really two-dimensional to me and a few felt like they were just meant to be walking gags, like TK. I guess that's kind of what you get for loading so many characters into a 13 episode show. Fortunately, the main cast wasn't that bland, and I actually really liked Kanade. Yui was pretty cool too, which was surprising, considering Yui seemed at first to be a character I'd want to punch in the face.

Hmm...I'd say I'll probably watch Baka-Test II and perhaps Kamisama Dolls. I might watch Mayo Chiki if no more scans are uploaded (I read it up to...what, chapter 3?). Nothing else really interests me...Kami-sama no Memo-chou just felt like a Gosick rip-off to me after I read the first chapter. I've read the manga for Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi and...well...kinda lost interest so I don't think it would be any different for the anime. :x

Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi - 3 - Ok, this is getting to be a lil too much like Yosuga no Sora, even with the lil brother instead of lil sister. Both has a girl living at a shrine, both had weak younger siblings, and both are harems (Yosuga less so). To top it off, theres the hint of incest in the early episodes. At least in Hoshizora the hint is hilarious.

Ano Mita Hana no Namea - 2 - Sad show is such an awesome show.

Kami-sama no Memo-chou, and maybe Usagi Drop. Maybe.

The rest looks really boring. Well, might be looking forward to that Higurashi OVA too.

Ore no Imouto - 14 - Hentai Hentai Hentai!!! Sexual harassment-senpai. That RPG game. Dat Kuroneko saying she "loves" Kyosuke. And Kyosukenot noticing that he is the lead character in Kuroneko's game. Best episode as far as I can remember.

I'll definitely be watching Natsume, Usagi Drop, and No. 6. Most of the other stuff so far looks awful, but there might be a couple other ones I'd be interested in.

Oreimo 14: Pretty boring episode.

Ao no Exorcist 1-2: Guy burned and knocked out by Satan wakes up just in time to pester the main character about not drawing his sword. Also, how does the creepy clown-makeup dude find the time to be in two shows at once this season?
These first two episodes were pretty good. I hope the pace doesn't slow down once the main character starts attending school though. Also, no more of the bad humor from the beginning of the first episode please.

Kuroneko was cute, as always. Even cuter than usual, though episode was about nothing, as usual.

What other show was the clown guy in? I actually liked that character for some reason, so I'd like to know! Biggrin

Oh, I was thinking that maybe the character was completely the same. Though, that wouldn't make much sense now that I think about it, unless the show were set in the same universe as another.

Hanasaku Iroha - 4 - So, now that Minko actually talks, Im noticing its the same VA as the lead in Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, and I think I like her more as Minko. Episode was kinda meh for the most part, but still interesting and well put together.

A-Channel - 3 - Daaaaawwww, Tooru. Also, dat forehead a_@

Lotte no Omocha! - 3 - Ok, a lil awkward when they came out with Asuha being his daughter. And what the hell was the llama for?
