IllegallySane Wrote:About $3-5 is a good start. Tokens (aka lives/Wheels) used to be an issue for new players, but they made it so at lower levels you get more tokens per day. The NX will mostly be used to get a safe upgrade so weight is unlimited. As for cheap classes, I can think of a few that work for being cheap AND they are pretty good/strong at end-game:
-Female Mech: Expenses are mostly buying hat/hair INT avatars. However, they are VERY efficient with their MP and faceroll PvE pretty badly. Requires quite a bit of micromanagement as you're juggling cooldown on robots and G-series, but to me I find that very fun.
-Witch: Everyone and their mother says how good they are with little to no funding; in most cases will never run out of MP. It's a little girl though, which may not be to your liking.
-Nen Masters: Female character, but are loved in parties due to very good buffs and defensive bubble. Rapes PvE like an Female Mech, and probably even more MP efficient.
What Henry said is something I can vouch for. Top tier classes right here, with relative PvE ease and love. Not to mention what little funding or equipping they need as well. However, make sure you use a proper build because that's what these classes are dependant on. S'long as you do that you'll be an asset to any party and still be able to solo as well. Beyond that, sheer skill to do well in this game because bosses and dungeons only get harder. So don't hold off gearing too late.
Edit: First safe upgrade is probably the best investment for anyone, it's a shame it's independant per character but it's cheap and you lose the weight restriction. So the pros really outweigh the cons here.

How about if I were to get a bit more serious about it? I've honestly gotten a bit tired of maple, and almost feel like cashing out and switching over. It'll still be a grind, but at least this one seems to take a little more skill/thought.
Is making rare avatars anywhere near cubing in maple, at least in terms of cost and rarity of good items? Also, how hard is it to get/buy decent gear in this game? Just wondering what I'd be getting myself into.

If you are more serious, the following are good in the long run (a couple years down the line) when heavily considering parties:
Strikers: Hits like a truck, and are insane DPS
Elemantlists: Same as Strikers, but mage version
Nen Master: Top tier buffs/party support
Soul Bender: Top tier buffs/debuffs
Crusader (Support): God tier buffs/party support/healing. You're pretty much the Staples Easy button
Rangers (a godly geared one): More money poured unto their guns = more power on an exponential scale
Summoner: Infinite meatshields as long as you have the MP
Female Mech: G-Series is really good, but may need an upgraded gun to keep up with low base damage
Female Grappler: "Holding slave", meaning you hold monsters still while the whole party whales on them.
Now there's still Thieves and Male Fighters that have yet to come out, so I can't give an opinion on them yet. From what I have read though: Rogues/Male Brawler+Nen Master+Striker are to material too.

My girlfriend and I recently started playing this. She's making a Slayer and I'm making a Female Gunner. Right now, we're both level 17 and she already knows what she's going to advance to.
I, on the other hand, need some help. I'm still not sure what to do with the Gunner. Can someone give me a quick overview of each of the possible subclasses? Since I haven't studied much the Female Gunner's path, I'm somewhat clueless at what each subclass can do.
Thanks!

Thanks! Launcher: Nuke stuff from across the screen, you'll mostly be hanging back, hitting everything on your x-axis.
Mechanic: You'll have the G series robots on your character following you all the time, damaging things close to you. While you're doing that you can fill the screen with bots.
Spitfire: Throw grenades from the sky and spam elemental bullets, you'll be burning/freezing/electrocuting/stunning enemies a lot.
Ranger: Good at kicking stuff at close range as well as using your gun to shoot stuff from mid-range.
Alternatively you can just go http://wiki.dfo-world.com/index.php?title=F._Gunner and choose based on what each classes portrait looks like.
Kitteh Wrote:Is making rare avatars anywhere near cubing in maple, at least in terms of cost and rarity of good items? Also, how hard is it to get/buy decent gear in this game? Just wondering what I'd be getting myself into. Purple (rare) equips, which is what most people use, doesn't really cost a lot. Depends on class, each armor piece in the highest level set, and the highest level purple weapon available currently is typically a few hundred k gold (except for certain classes where it is a bit more). You get a few m just by doing dungeons/quests/selling off drops so any (nx) funding is not needed for decent gear. Auction house makes buying and selling equips really straightforward.
Basic avatars are around 300-400k each I think, I forgot how much advanced are (1m? 1.5m? not sure). Bind 5 adv avatars with a 750 nx bind cube and there's about a 50% chance of getting a rare avatar. <understatement>So it's probably cheaper to make rare avatars in dfo that it is to make unique equips on maple.</understatement>

Oooo, what class is she going to be?
Female Ranger: Gunslinger who can melee and leave death and destruction everywhere
Female Spitfire: Harness the power of elemental bullets and grenades
Female Launcher: Heavy artillery user, like bombs, lasers, and cannons
Female Mech: Command many robots, and master of an infinite G-Series
Personally, I recommend Female Ranger if you can afford the money to upgrade your gun, or Female Mech for facerolling PvE. Launcher and Spitfire are if you REALLY like the idea of the classes.

Awakenings for each:
Spitfire - EMP Bomb
Ranger - Twin Gunblades (Awakening boosts your character for 50 seconds, unlike the others which are directly used right there)
Launcher - Ancient Trigger
Mechanic - G-0 (Mutherf%&^ing GUNDAM!)
If you want, I can find you Female gunner gameplay videos too.

I disagree with this. Rangers are way too gear dependent to recommend to anyone without at least a good amount of gold (10+ million). You are going to need a lot of gold to become good in dungeons, +11 weapons don't come easy.
Female Mechanics are fine, I agree with that.

I'm guessing that Loose will be parting with his girlfriend, so these classes are viable choices. They do well in parties.

I feel quite proud of myself right now, I seem to be sucking less in spamming skills. I finally know how to use Chaser Launcher properly. e_e (yes I know it was obvious by the description)

I know they need gold, but they get really strong then. As for partying with his girlfriend, I agree they are good in parties, but sometimes Loose may want to solo sometimes too, ya know?

They only get strong when they are funded. I hope you realize that Rangers are subpar without a good weapon.
Spitfires may not be the best solo characters but that doesn't mean that they can't solo. They are a versatile class but their DPS isn't the best. That is why they are considered good in parties.

Well, my Male Ranger feels okay so long as I spam Sharp Eye potions, which is what Rangers do anyways.

It becomes painfully apparent once you get to dungeons past level 50.

Males are all like:
"EXTREMELY-AMAZING-SO-I-CAN-SOLO-ANYTHING-ON-HEROES'-ROAD-OH-BUT-I-NEED-+13-AND/OR-RAD-SKILLS-TO-DO-SO"
OR
"I am so bad that that I am a dead weight to any and every party on normal road"
So really for males, you need a lot of funding or super smarts and nerdy practice. On the other hand F. Rangers are all like snazzy and awesome in parties. They do require funding as well, but their skills are more favoured for PvE as it seems.
Oh, but hey. Any class is god tier with enough gold thrown into of course. It's just that rangers can make more use of it since percentile based attacks. It's just really a shame that it's to the point that they're rather dependent on it too much...So unless one is planning to go real far with a ranger, it shouldn't really be a suggested first character.

It's not impossible like it sounds really. Just expect a much harder time compared to other classes, and magical learning walls.

I still think that a class that need a lot of weapon upgrades to be good at soloing is better than a class with all fixed damage skills that need to be high leveled to have okay dps *cough*Relics on my grappler*cough*. Therefore, a ranger isn't technically the worst class to solo with.

I preferred my poofy noob skirt.
On a side-note, too used to using scroll lock for screenshots. *kills it*
