I keep hearing how critical rates don't mean sh'it anymore because criticals are multiplicative now. I don't get that...
Without Dragon Strike, I can't hit 100k+ damage with Dragon Strike (this is excluding Counter Attack, of course), but with criticals, 100k+ damage is pretty common to see.
Now... the higher critical rate I have, the higher chance I have to see 100k+ damage with Dragon Strike. Wouldn't that improve my damage a LOT?
If I need to put it in a bossing situation, it's the same thing with Demolition. The higher critical rate I have, the higher chance I have of seeing 100k damage per hit with Demolition. Wouldn't this improve my overall DPS a lot?
I ask this because every time I or someone else brings up "higher critical rates" in any conversation, I only see "critical rates don't mean sh'it" as a reply. So someone, please explain to me why higher critical rates don't mean anything anymore, because I'm very intrigued as to why that is so.

its just that the crit system post bb sucks in comparison to pre bb. pre bb, crits would add 100% to skills that commonly did only 100-200% base, and SE would raise that to 200%++, effectively tripling the damage of a couple classes. extra crit chance is very good to have when crits triple your damage.
post bb, extra crit chance will only give an average of 35%-65% more damage, instead of 200%.

That was only true to classes which had already native crit and skills with low % dmg. Now everyone has the same thing for critical, for mages, for example, criticals are better now than pre-BB.

Sure crit aint as good anymore, but the difference between crits an non-crits is big enough to make my 93% crit rate with SE totally worth it.

That's what I needed to hear. My goal is to have 100% critical rate at least once. :p

I think crit hardcaps at around 95%. A friend had Dice 4, CO'd SE, crit ring and 8% critical potential. His crit range read 79%, with CO'ed Cannon he should've hit 100% crit, but still reported seeing non-crits.

Let's conclude its because those saying "crit rates mean sh'it" were NL pre-BB
I just don't see how critical rates aren't benefical after BB.

They just mean less for some people than they used to pre-BB, but having crit now is still a pretty darned good thing.

There's no crit cap. In fact, you can even go over 100% critical hit rate.

The max crit damage is a bigger benefit to SE now, I think - at least for classes that already have good crit rates. They made crit damage much less of a necessity, though... instead of SE being a ~50% damage increase for NLs, and 1-2% increase for Warriors, it's now more like 10% increase for most classes.

Ah, but he could have easily saved it for a while, before trading it for the first time.

Well, equiping it doesn't bind, so he could have been using it on the adventurer he created it on.
