 Potential Maple Shoulder Equip

 Bonus 8th Anniversary Pic

Well, this is unfortunate. Doesn't protect against status effects, and seems to have the same problem Divine Shield does now.

What is the cooldown on it? 90 seconds or 30 seconds?

Great. Just pinappling great. -.-; Can we have that as a passive effect please next KMST patch? <_< If not, then we are screwed for bossing.

Venomous Wrote:I really don't understand all the fuss about damage and DPS rankings. It was all meaningless before potential, and its even more meaningless with potential.

It is meaningful when Bishops level at 1/4th the speed of other jobs, when they are also fully playing their roles in a party. Assuming you can't afford +3000 int, that is. Which should be the majority of Maplers.

It's funny, actually. Bishops used to sell leech to people hanging on ropes, being the fastest levelers. Now Bishops hang on ropes leeching from other people, being the slowest levelers. While some might call this karma or divine justice, I call it poor game design.

Bishop's gameplay should be very simple and solid: Stay on the front lines along with attackers dispelling, healing, buffing, shielding, AND casting powerful holy spells in-between so they also get good chunks of exp. But right now you'd just rather hang on a rope.

It's 90 seconds. I have no idea what the 30 seconds thing is.

Actually, wait, that's stun, I should check harps or something, they cast darkness.

Totally love this band xD

IS that Kyrin or the Corsair girl from the pirate advertising?

I don't think they'll leave it at this. I don't think any of the mages are on par with other classes yet. Hoping for the next round of changes they address survivability and 1v1 damage. Turning all of our moves into mob attacks is kinda... unneeded.

Harps haven't inflicted darkness on me within the shield yet, and they rarely do regularly, don't their attacks inflict darkness at a 100% rate, at least, currently in gMS?

I think it's the girl from the pirate ad, google says her name is Valerie.

They cast darkness as their first attack. It can miss. They'll recast darkness after a while, but their primary attack does not cause darkness.

Also if I'm not wrong yellow rashes can cast weakness and although the first video is only 19 seconds long, he doesn't get cursed once they start attacking him.

He stuns most of them during the video and they only cast it as their first attack.

After which he still doesn't get weakened. That dusty jump they do before they start spitting on him is the weakness cast.

Try Jr. Boogies, they're easy to find around Parion. They don't have any attacks other than status effects and touch damage.

Uh, from when I faced them in GMS post-BB, they apparently don't seem to do skill seal anymore. Maybe I'm just lucky.

LegendGospel Wrote:In any case, you'd still have the role to support. Cast protecting skills, dispelling, healing lagging people or those spamming skills, blessing, reviving, dooming (seems doable now), but you'd have something to do meanwhile. I mean, besides hanging on a rope and pressing 2-3 keys for buffs every few minutes.

A random example, I was leveling my Wind Archer to 120 the other day, and not having HB in certain party, a Bishop saved my ass with a rescue heal a few times. But then he seemed to lose motivation and just hanged on a rope for an hour or so. I missed the heals he could have given me while attacking and whatnot. Even unintentional heals I got when he was healing himself. Just an example on how Bishops could be even more useful supporters if given the motivation to be in the battlefield, instead of a rope. And as a Bishop, I wouldn't mind casting support spells 30% or 40%, of the time, if the rest of the time I could actually do something. THAT sounds like a supporting class to me, as opposed to a mule, which is the current state of Bishops.
Want to give Bishops something to do?
Make pot cool down universal. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it.

Another thing they could do is make Bishops the go-to class for status effects.
Take Slow and Seal from the other classes and give it to the class that would make the most sense to have it.
Allow Seal to work on bosses and throw a CD on it.

As someone who created a Cleric as his first main before 4th Job was even announced, what appealed to me most about the class was both self-sufficiency (in terms of being able to survive most places while simultaneously being pot-efficient) and the bonus it got from party training.
The times I went to Horntail were a blast since my squad relied on me in order to finish the run; would have been even better if I had more than Dispel and Heal to cast regularly.

I don't believe making the class stronger is the answer though; find other ways to give them the exp.
Make Bishops the support role, but don't forget to make sure to give them support skills.
Hell, make healing people give more experience. Make Dispelling give experience. Why not?

The biggest disappointment of this patch is the death of party play zones.
When I said that I wished all training benefited from having a party, I didn't mean that they should invalidate all training locations except one.
They're taking the game the wrong direction...
But, hey, I'll try to be optimistic and hope that Monster Park is their way of testing the system (if only).

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:So Papu dies in 8 seconds as opposed to 24 seconds (yes, I timed it)? 16 seconds difference doesn't seem like a whole lot on the damage difference spectrum. Granted, Steve even admitted that the reason why it even took as "long" as it did was due to his rusty play as a Bishop. In fact, it proves they're quite close if classes had similar funding.
It actually proves that they aren't even remotely close.
8:24 means that the Bishop kills 3 times as slow as whatever you're comparing to it.
1/3 of the damage in a solo-training scenario means 1/3 of the experience. Even if you give the Bishop HS, he's getting half as much experience as everyone else.

Is Holy Magic Shell a self-buff only? That would be cool if it was a targeted buff that absorbed a certain amount of damage based on the Bishop's damage range.

It's absolutely critical for your role to be improved by your stats. Right now you can spend hundreds of dollars cubing your Bishop's gear and that doesn't make you any more useful as a supporter.

Also, bossing in Maple is just too inaccessible for support to be viable. I find whaling on Zakum and Papulatus over and over again to see who can do it the fastest extremely dull. The bosses that actually have desirable drops require either massive self-investment or a guild/group of friends that have also spent a lot on gear upgrades. What with the huge amount of grinding it takes to get to 160 and how much time/money you have to spend on a "free to play" game to have adequate gear to deal with the bosses, it's pretty hard to find a sizable group of people to take on even the Chaos bosses, much less Pink Bean or Empress Cygnus. Since the game is centered around levelling and not bossing, it's really hard to justify a role that's only useful at bosses.

Party skill. It blocks a set amount of hits.

Why?
I enjoyed my Bishop just fine before. I'm all for any class that doesn't require massive amounts of funding to approach "fun".
Hell, my favorite part of my Battle Mage wasn't that I could quickly kill monsters, but that I was using multiple skills every minute.

The fact that I didn't find whaling on a boss while standing in one place is exactly why I enjoyed my Bishop and why I find the path F/P Archmages are taking to be so sexy: they require you to pay attention. I love the new Heroes for this same reason.

And, even if they were to make your stats matter to Bishops, the only thing it could possibly affect is Healing.
Making the success rate of Dispels, etc depend on stats would only serve to further imbalance the game.

Then make bossing accessible.
Not fixing a problem because there's another problem is a horrible answer; fix both problems.
I also don't believe that massive amount of funding is required to take on every end-game boss; some just require bigger groups.

If taking forever to get to 160 is the problem, make it easier to get to 160.
Too hard to find a group? Develop a better system of match-making.
Group limits to small? Expand the range.
Group minimums too large? Let anyone run.
Not worth killing a boss? Change the way drops are given out.
If they game is too focused on leveling, make bossing more feasible.

Acknowledging that Nexon probably won't fix the issues in its game is entirely different from acting like the problems cannot be fixed.
Seeing how many people were eager to drop their ideas for revamping each individual Adventurer branch, it's clear that the members of this forum aren't entirely against dreaming.

It's a party buff, but I have no idea how it works in parties. The idea that the entire party gets only 10 guards has been thrown around...

I agree with Dusk. I think that stats such as INT and LUK should boost the strength of the bishops buffs and heals. That would add motivation to upgrade your equipment as a Bishop and also add some variance between Bishops. In other MMOs such as Dungeon Fighter Online, the buffs from the support class are scaled based on the casters stats. Bishops are not meant to be attackers, they are meant to be supporters. However, at the moment they can do neither one.

The problem is that with the Big Bang and Chaos patches along with the potential system, people have become so strong that they do not really need to be supported anymore. People would rather bring an attacker in the place of a Bishop because the boss will die much faster that way. We have things like wheels, HP washing and the potential system to negate the need of Bishops now. That, or the players are so strong they just prefer to go in solo and get all of the profit for themselves. The potential system really killed the social interaction part of the game, at least within the high level community.

People do not need parties to kill most bosses anymore, they can do it alone. Even in KMS, you've got Dual Bladers soloing PB, doing 19 minute Horntail runs solo, etc. People even kill HT regularly here alone. You can't even party at Horntail now if you wanted to anyway. The expedition signup has been bugged for months and Nexon doesn't seem to give a pomegranate about it. That combined with DC hacking. When you take away the Bishops need to support a party, what have you got? What is there place in the game now? They don't have one even with this update, I don't see much changing. They will still be abused as Holy Symbol mules.

At least before the Big Bang, players weren't dealing a million damage per second and had to have a party to kill bosses and of course Bishops had a genesis that didn't have a cool down. Even if they weren't much for support, they were one of the fastest leveling characters in the game, now they are potentially one of the slowest. All in all, I like the new animation updates and I think this patch is a step in the right direction, but I don't believe Bishops are anywhere near fully set with this patch and I still believe they need a lot of adjustments before they become anywhere near useful again.

In regards to the party EXP changes, that is really disappointing to hear. I always thought the one thing that made LHC unique was the party bonus increase which encouraged players to party there as well as the huge HP the monsters had that required players to work together as a team to kill them. Nexon is giving that up just so they can make another washed out boring solo grinding area for what reason? MMO's are known for their social interaction, in a version of the game where high level PQ's are nearly non existent and partying results in slower training, why would Nexon destroy one of the only areas in the game that actually encouraged social interaction? >_>
