Correct me if I'm wrong but you're stating that moderate alcohol consumption is healthy?

If we count in deaths indirectly caused by alcohol, the number should be even higher. And again, different sources give different numbers... And I was talking about moderate smoking in my previous post.

100,000. It's estimated at 100,000 counting accidents, falls and homicides. Oh look it's less. by a little over 75%. The reason those aren't included is because alcohol doesn't make you drink and drive, stupidity does. it also doesn't drive you to homicide, that is a predisposition you already have to have. You're just hopelessly wrong. Including those when talking about health risks is like including fatal car accidents caused by pineappletards who talk on their cells while driving when talking about deaths from cellphone induced cancer. (which is a stupid ass subject anyway, please don't bring it up as a further point).

The topic is the health effects, not people who do stupid pomegranate under the influence. But trust me, if smoking were recorded in the same way, it's numbers would get a boost. Here is a short example of how: if every time someone who was a smoker and killed someone while smoking and not under the influence of alcohol, would we count that as a smoking death? NO. When someone drunk kills you, drinking doesn't kill you. Murder/manslaughter does.

You aren't seeing facts, you're just seeing what you want to see.

But guys, this person I know used to ride a unicycle whilst whistling the theme tune to Jaws and eating a jam sandwich and he died of cancer.

Must be the cause.

One thing that I can prove, and it's 100% accurate, is that being alive gives a potential risk of growing a cancer.

Aww this thread makes me want to post a picture with an ad that says "50% of smokers will die" with "and the rest will live forever" graffiti'd under it.

Shidoshi Wrote:The article's results are very bad and have no value on this discussion. I know many people who drink alcohol moderately (either very little every day or not very often).
There's more to alcohol than getting drunk, you can't say that those non-alcoholic beers and wine have the same taste and quality of the real thing. Also, getting slightly drunk once a week is quite fine and goes way below the average stated on the article considering an average over the week.

Shidoshi Wrote:Cancer is not the only consequence of smoking. Bad breath, yellow teeth, loss of breathing capacity all come WAY before you even consider cancer (non-exhaustive list).
Intake of alcohol has pretty much no bad effects save for people who drink a lot and frequently.

:f6: Define moderate. Eliminating big quantities of alcohol takes time, 1 week or so I waas told by my introduction to psychology teacher. Eliminating alcohol consumes a lot of energy so hangovers are (or can be compared)* to depressions. Having no energy, wanting to do nothing, emotional distress and some others. Getting drunk/slightly drunk once a week is not moderate nor healthy. Any amount can lead to addiction. Addiction is not dependent on dose only, there are social and genetical factors that one must also consider. So, basicly since any amount can cause addiction, therefore moderate should not be considered save nor healthy. And IMO, consuming alcohol in regular basis is what leads to addiction. Even if it's just a cup of wine. 1cup of wine a week when you start, then since 1 cup doesn't have desired effect you drink 2 and so on:

Quote:There's a "feel the effect" limit and a dangerous limit. You're allowed to drink (do anything) between those limits. Even if you're not addicted you'll need a bigger/longer dose to feel the effect, therefore making your healthy "spot" smaller. If the addiction is bad you'll reach the dangerous limit and die

You're not seeing facts either, sorry.
Alcohol has effects on both cerebelum and frontal lobe. One is in charge of motor skills the other is in charge of thinking, taking desitions and uhh will check later. So, basicly you take poor decitions while being drunk. Sure, people already are stupid, alcohol just makes it worse. According to one study (the one I have's in spanish) any amount of alcohol makes your motor skills bad, so the chances of crashing even if you only drank 1 beer are higher than while being sober. One must count car crashes and stupid pomegranate people do while being drunk.

Accorrding to WHO "stupid pomegranate" make alcohol and alcoholism and public health issue:

WHO Wrote:* The harmful use of alcohol results in 2.5 million deaths each year.
* 320 000 young people between the age of 15 and 29 die from alcohol-related causes, resulting in 9% of all deaths in that age group.
* Alcohol is the world’s third largest risk factor for disease burden; it is the leading risk factor in the Western Pacific and the Americas and the second largest in Europe.
* Alcohol is associated with many serious social and developmental issues, including violence, child neglect and abuse, and absenteeism in the workplace.
________

I have the impression that since alcohol is socially accepted people think it's not as bad.
Alcohol is just as bad as cigarrete:
Alcohol is just socially accepted but that doesn't make it "better" than cigarrette and some drugs.
Also on a side note, who knows maybe in 50years cigarrette and alcohol will be banned and cannabis will be legal. Those things tend to change a lot depending on social context.
If you consider it some psychotropics that are legal/ilegal and socially accepted/not-accepted sometimes aren't even legal/ilegal for rightful reasons.

Everyone and their mother knows that smoking is way worse than alcohol. Alcohol can be broken down by the liver, while tar and stuff in your lungs cannot. Alcohol is broken down by oxidation with the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase. An average human being eliminates 5% of alcohol with urine, exhales 5% and then the rest is from oxidation. So if your kidney is healthy, it would take about an hour or so to break down the alcohol in a 355 ml can. Your body can't do anything to break down the tar and sh`it that gets into your lungs from smoking, so drinking in moderation is far better than smoking cigarettes or tobacco in general.

A cup of alcohol doesn't take a week to break down. o.o

Yeah, not even a portion of bacon takes that long (bacon takes about 12h), and that's just CH3CH2OH, animal grease are incredibly long chains.
Breaking a small molecule into something absorbable should be pretty easy.

Why is it that when Shidoshi and I are talking about moderate drinking, everyone goes out of their way to explain binge or radical drinking? I used a cup because that's what you used in your ending sentence. Starting with a cup of wine (Wine is actually good for you, just saying.) and incrementing the take gradually. Moderate drinking is considered about 1070ml of alcohol or lower, in my opinion.

If you didn't notice I also said moderate might not even be safe.
Even WHO's quote can be related to "low/moderate" dosis of alcohol.

EDITS: pineappleed up this post.

My point is you should stop considering moderate as safe. It can still pineapple you up.
Not sure about moderate being healthy.
