This type of question will never matter because on a test, it will be specifically stated whether it's one or the other and will not try to play mind games on individuals.

this isn't about "will it matter or will it not" it's about math, and math always matter, even if it's retarded.

math is srs business. that's why math trolling like this, -16, or pi=circumference, are so succesful, because IT HAS TO HAVE AN ANSWER, BUT NOBODY CAN F'UCKING AGREE ON ONE.

add that this is on the internet, and people start bringing out the flamethrowers.

sure math matters but this particular question doesn't because this is not an issue in the real world. No one will ever write "48/2(9+3)". Math's goal is not to trick people with silly mind games, especially when it's not necessary. This probably got big on the internet because we are bored.

edit:although if people want to keep arguing about this then by all means continue to do so, i'm just sayin

Concurring. Lols were had.

And in my opinion, in every day life, we strive to communicate in such a way that we could be understood; but Math communicates in such a way that it can't be misunderstood, hence why it has to sacrifice some comprehensibility in the process. If I were to go srsbzn mode, I would not call that Math.

Sorry guys.

48 / 2( 9 + 3)

= 48 / ( 18 + 6)

= 48/18 + 48 / 6

= 2.66 + 8

= 10.66

the problem is, someone did, and some just can't sleep without knowing what the hell happens, math is supposed to be "perfect" as in, no room for error, either you are right, or you are wrong, this kinda thing doesn't have a known answer, people attempt to give it one.

it's my take on the business, i just sit back, lol a bit, and maybe learn something new.

The funny part is that I said denominator. Might as well have said decimator.

48 / 2( 9 + 3)

= 4818 + 6)

= 4824

Because it's division and multiplication it cancels eachother out. Therefore combining the numbers. This gives you the answer of 4824. You're welcome.

I looked at it, thought about how crap i am at maths, looked at the answer and then worked out the solution. I am happy that i remembered high school.
