You seem to think that cutting Planned Parenthood will have a noticeable effect on the overall dept and deficit. It will not. Attack Social Security and Medicare/cade more, tiny programs that the Government can easily afford less.

You have to wait until midnight of today.

Part of the problem is that the government spends millions here, and millions there. Even cutting the more major areas we spend is not enough. Not to mention, all the little unecessary programs add up.

America should cut their defense spending 100%. Problem solved.
Also reposting for emphasis because if this doesn't happen it's entirely his fault:
Thanks, Boner.

But then who will keep American soil safe? Who will stop the Canadians from invading? Or uh... all those other things the american military does that the Coast Guard's not able to deal with.

I don't really keep up with politics as it's not my favorite subject, but just what would it mean if the government shut down?

Quote:The Senate has passed a short-term budget deal that will keep the government funded through next Thursday. The measure still has to be approved by the House of Representatives.

The House is the one causing problems, so a Senate pass doesn't mean much....

this is where i point out that planned parent hood doesnt force people who weren't planning on getting abortings into getting them. the choice still lies in the same hands and many of the people who have an unplanned child still would as they would decide they want to keep it.

I heard the number 300 million dollars somewhere. Not even a third of a billion dollars. The GOP has no excuse to hold things up because of a third of a billion dollars.

In partisan politics, especially with Republicans pledging to "cut costs", they'll do more than what's necessary to achieve their goals.....and it looks more like drama fest in the end.
And the $300 million that the Republicans are fighting over is in regards to funding Planned Parenthood with that money (they want to de-fund Planned Parenthood). Republicans have an anti-abortion stance, so you can figure out why they want to do this.

They're doing exactly what politicians here are doing. Using the current financial climate to force through, under fear, agendas they've had prior to it.

Its offense spending that needs to be cut 100%. Defense spending needs to be cut to a reasonable amount. You always need some defense, because being attacked does still happen in this day and age.
@Stereo: Its actually the Mexican Drug Cartels that are currently invading US soil, and Obama has completely ignored his duty to protect the states from foreign invaders by not doing a damned thing about this issue about this obvious threat and instead bombing a differnt country on the other side of the world.
@Octopusprime: Who said they did? but people do seem to not want to discuss that link.

Seriously? I mean... seriously?
That's not a bad thing, is it?
I didn't read it through, since I'm in the middle of a Monster Carnival run, but it looks like they're blocking the internet from being censored or restricted.

They're dropping the blocking of Internet censorship and restrictions. Or at least trying to.

Have been wondering about this sort of bill. How's it been going since that bill passed some time ago?

From what I heard, this is still about budgeting for 2010. They haven't even looked to budgeting 2011 yet... :|
I heard this from someone's opinion - not entirely sure if it's true or not.

Yes, it's a bad thing, for anyone who uses an internet connection in the USA. The Republicans want ISPs to be allowed to offer tiered internet, where websites have to pay the ISP to get fast traffic - so for example, Hulu and Netflix would have to pay your ISP, or they wouldn't be able to stream to you anymore, cause your ISP would be throttling them.
It's basically a matter of the ISPs trying to control which internet services you use, and the Republicans going along with this because in general they're in favour of big business being allowed to do what it wants and get rich.
