Confused about the SC2 rating system
#1
So I finally got SC2 about a week and a half ago, and I jumped right into the ladder 1v1s without any practice. I did really poorly at first. I haven't played Brood War in ages, and I only had a tiny amount of experience with the Beta, so it took me a bit to learn new tech trees and general strategies. I got placed in Bronze and my first 15-20 matches were like 50:50 win/loss so I was stuck around rank 50. I'm pretty competent at micro and once I figured out what I was doing my macro ability jumped up. I'm now rank 4 Bronze, and I've won 8 out of my 10 last matches and most of my opponents have been upper ranked Silvers. Most of my opponents are easy as hell to beat. How many games do I need to play before I get moved up? Sad

Add meh Fiel.432. I'm on right now.

I'd tell you where to find the answer, but the site is down at the moment. Check teamliquid.net

I got the game way back in december, but I'm still in placement(did complete the campaign though). Will update with my name and code once I have the time, and after that I'm going to try and really get into the game for once(I've been watching replays since november, but hardly play myself xD).

EDIT: Scaeva, 722

It takes a while. But if you beat scrubs you should be in Gold/plat in no time at all (assuming you just straight out win with no problems). What i've heard is that the ranking system matches you up so that your overall rating aims toward being 50:50. So if you win 95% of your games, the system will try to match you with a person who is, ranking wise, better than you so your record isn't 131231:4

Likewise if your losing a bunch of games, the system will put you with a person who has an equal record or lower than yours so you can get back to 50:50. makes sense though; it just takes a long time.
