Surprised you guys don't go all out and just go for 31 in 3 stats like I do. Guess not everyone has the patience.

If a few IV points is the difference between winning and losing then I wouldn't be playing. To me, high 20s in the stats that matter is good enough for me, don't wanna lose sleep over breeding like crazy for a few more IV points. But anywho, is Simon worthy of being used in Vs. matches?

I've been looking for an Adamant Lightningrod Blitzle for the past while, ever since I got to Nacrene City. It's quite frustrating not being able to BREED right now, and I don't want to move on until I've got Adamant at the least. Urgh.
Current Team:
Kevin the Dewott (19)
Jon the Pansear (20)
Richard the Pidove (12)

...God damn the post-game is hard. Walked into Challenger's Cave for a bit of training, the second trainer (Male Ace Trainer) murdered me. Then the Pokemon Ranger on the route east of Opelucid City (first one you encounter) murdered me with Mantine. Is Bounce always a 100% Paralyze? Or am I just unlucky?

Spent about 5 minutes resetting at the Magikarp seller for Adamant. Got a Gyarados with:
Gyarados - #130 (Adamant) : 15 - 19 / 20 - 25 / 17 - 21 / 25 - 29 / 5 - 9 / 31 (At level 20 atm)
Wish I could calculate EVs, so I wouldn't get so many damn impossibles and so that these numbers would be more accurate considering I raised Gyarados on trainers.

Um, if you just catch a Gyarados without training it, it should have 0 EVs O_O.
Anyways to better calculate the IVs:
1. Save.
2. Put as many Rare Candies as you can on the Gyarados.
3. Check the stats. The IV calculator should give more specific IVs.
4. Restart.

* I trained the Magikarp on trainers thus evolving it into a Gyarados. I used the Day Care for some prior calculations but it'd be too time consuming to throw it in there for 14 levels.

Well, it is extremely good already. The 31 speed IV is beautiful and the 20-25 Attack Stat is great.

Another method if you have 2 games and 2 DS'es...or a friend...do a link battle, the pokemon gets upped to level 50 or 100, I forget which... you'll get dead on IV's that way when you punch the numbers in. Assuming there aren't any EVs on the thing.
EDIT: If this generation displays stats during battle... I can't remember if it does or not...

I was thinking of that, but for some reason I was thinking they removed it or something :3.

You can use Battle Subway if you want.

If you're worried about IVs, it'll probably be a lot easier for you to get good IVs through breeding instead of catching random pokemon and hoping that they're both the right nature as well as have the right IVs. The only reason one would worry about IVs in the first place would be if they're planning on playing competitively, in which case, one should breed anyways. Or use the RNG.

You can always use the battle subway guy for a ROUGH way of knowing if you got a decent pokemon.
He will tell you how good your total IV for a pokemon is and what the highest IV you got (if you got more than one high IV that are the same, he will tell you all of them...ok that sounds confusing use the example below)
I dont know the total IV that each rank per say, all i know is that outstanding is over 100+ total IV. Heres what he says
Your pokemon has ___________ potential (fill in the black with below) worst IV total to Best IV total
Below average
Average / decent
Above average
Superior
Outstanding
Then he will say how high the stat is (he won't actually say the number sadly =/)
Its __________ (fill in below, worst to best)
average
above average
superior
outstanding (?) (not sure about this)
can't be better than that (means max IV)
For example, lets say i got a magikarp (lol while we are on the subject) that has 2 hp / 31 att / 10 def / 30 sp att/ 5 sp def/ 31 speed.
The checker in the subway will say
This pokemon has outstanding potential! The best stat it has is att and speed, it can't be better than that!
This guy is very useful while I breed, its how i got my max att and speed archen, max hp/ def / sp def spiritomb, max sp att and speed zoroa and max hp and speed chandelure (redoing the chandelure)
He only appears after you beat the pokemon league first though.

Well, I have 2 DSs and Pokemon Black as well as White. Both past the E4. Basically meaning both are options for me. I got some impossibles on my Samurott but the rest were crap (All less than 10). My Archeops has 2x in Attack I think. Too lazy to reenter. Besides he's been battling for ages. EVs are messed up in that regard.

Yeah, things get complicated if the Pokemon you`re checking for IVs has already battled. Even worse if you want to check your in game team after you beat the game/in mid game. Generally, one would breed a pokemon for the right nature (by having a "mother" with that nature hold an everstone) and/or the IVs you want (with a power item). Then you can check by putting the hatched pokemon in a situation where it's level is adjusted to 50 or 100.
Generally, you shouldn't care about EVs, IVs, or even natures during the main game. You worry about that post game when you have all the areas that are open to you, in order to have the greatest variety of places to possibly EV train at. Unless you know exactly what EVs you want to train, and what trainers have pokemon that give them, you would want to avoid battling trainers with fresh pokemon. For something useless like magikarp, you would have to either use an exp share, or switch out into something else on whatever pokemon gives the EVs you want for the magikarp until its EVs are maxed out. Then you can go on to level it.
Basically, determine the nature and IVs you want. Then breed for them (or RNG), give them the necessary EV training (preferably with a power item and pokerus) and then you can finally train them up.
You might get less than favourable results if you just plan to catch things in the wild. So start fresh with your team and breed them up, it's not like you're pressed for time to make a good team.

Got a friend on gMS with Pokerus. Gonna ask 'em to get me some. Last I asked they needed to spread it still. iirc, Macho Brace is nice for EVs. Last I tried dealing with them, I lost count of the number of Pokemon I'd killed and kind of had to give up that point.

There's a way more practical way to find out your Pokemon's IVs.
