No Soap, No Shampoo, No...Stink?

If we're going to base ourselves in historical facts, then there's one that clearly suits this discussion. In the Middle Ages, where commonly, people spent a lot of time without using any of the things mentioned, wedding was a torture. The bride, couldn't take a bath until late May, and would only after the marriage is done. It was just a terrible smell, on a sorta cold country, that Europe was by that time, the body had no change and did continue to produce the oils and the smell. Ever wondered why the wedding bouquet always have strong scent flowers? Like all kinds of roses?

It was not only because these used to represent aristocracy, and were something beautiful, but also because of the fact the body odor from the bride was just terrible from spending all these months without a single water drop going by her body, that it was strictly necessary to put another fresh scent to get mixed up with the horrible smell, and make something still bad, but not enough to destroy your nose.

The sensation was like marrying a corpse bride already in decomposition.

Also, the most wrong thing people do nowadays, is to think that spreading perfumes over the body does the same as taking a shower. It doesn't. Like the case i've mentioned, you can't just stop taking showers and use perfumes as a solution. If you mix up a strong smell with a bad smell, it won't turn any good. It's sorta common to see a few people doing it, and it doesn't work, seriously.

you still shower. It is a key difference that i can't believe people still aren't noting. You just don't use soap.

That's easy to say if you're not a Garbage Man. Be one for a week or two, and without bathing, then we'll talk.

Saying this doesn't work is extremely ignorant. It's like trying to prove my body is the same as yours. It might work for some, probably won't for others. There are so many different variables to one's life that arguing about this just makes you look silly.

I for one wouldn't mind trying this in regards to showering daily without shampoo or soap and using some deodorant.

this is a dumb debate. dry skin ? use lotion... moisturizing AND smells awesome. vaseline is my favourite. Its a repeated process that you wont need your 'natural' and smelly body oils.

That's not too different from what I do, really.

I'm a home-body, so I take showers almost every day (some days I don't, depending on what time it is and what's going on) but I don't use my body wash unless I know I'm going to do something that day. I use shampoo every day, though, since I love having soft hair. When I was younger, I'd not bathe much and I remember my hair being greasy and gross. I definitely don't want to go back to that.

I never stink for not actually scrubing my body clean, but I also don't do much, so that could be a huge factor.

i mean, if you use soap and it takes away the oil, leaving your skin dry... your skin is gonna produce more oil... and then you'll have to shower again... i dont see anything wrong with that unless youre talking about showering once a freaking week.

But I grabbed that thread from the Social Section of the Smogon forums Hurt.

Should I ask a mod to close this thread?

I'm not saying his reasoning is correct, I'm just saying that you used a bad argument. He said the problem was the pokemon players, not the pokemon forum. To which you responded that this was a maplestory forum.

Anyway, the argument is done I guess. No need to close it though, it will die off naturally if nothing else is contributed.

Man, I had a rough day today but this made my day.

Which tard thought this up? lol No seriously. Lemme share a story.

In highschool, the moment the bell rings, everyone jam packs the bus. One day, I really wasn't so lucky. I was exhausted, I got a window seat and what happens? This big tall built guy comes in. He has nowhere else to stand, so he stands in front of me. He plays basketball and coincidentally, that day he came from basketball practise (I saw him walk from there). Now, all my life, I've been very very very scent sensitive. I try to stay as far away as I pineappleing possibly can be from the folks who take a shower in perfume/cologne and the men's changeroom (and oh my god I could smell it from 10 pineappleing meters away -- no joke. It reeked. BAD! Especially since they loved to prop the doors open after they've done their business .. to get rid of the stench.) Anyway, so when the bus starts to move, the folks standing automatically grabs the handle .. to keep from falling. And this guy? Oh man. He was okay when he stood in front of me. But when the bus moves and his arm shot up to grab the bar? Holy pineappleing pomegranate. I had such a hard time trying to breathe and not vomit. That forest under his arm? It smelt nasty. Concentrated BO right there. The worse part? He threw axe cologne into it. Please. Don't do this. =\ It doesn't cover up pomegranate. Or I swear to god you won't have a girlfriend for long.

By the way, washing ur hair with only water will only lead to itchy scalps and continuously oily hair. A kid I've babysat had done this. And yes .. it smells. >.> Ever looked at the bus windows when u have the window seat? There's usually a small round spot of oil on it. Not hard to figure out that it came from someone's head. Very gross. I'd like to also point out that dirty scalps are the best places for small critters like lice.

Edit: submitted post several hours late -- i hit send and went to bed without realising it didnt send. Anyway, i agree that everyone's body is different but people do sweat and that's the biggest thing. This thread like.. assumes everyone is the same.

I wouldn't be able to do this.

I have oily skin, so if I don't bath with soap I'll look like an Armor All tire. My hair is also bad crappy hair, with flakes. The max I can go without getting the first signs of itchy scalp is like, three days.

Then there's also the habit aspect. Can't go to bed feeling all dirty.

Also, lolDove.

On the topic of shampoo, yes, washing your hairs everyday is a terrible idea, and no one should get used to it. I freaking regret starting it. Now, I shampoo on the morning, and my hairs become a bit oily in the end of the day. But on when I wake up, my hairs are so oily I don't even recognise myself. So yeah, I'm trapped in a vicious circle, and probably a lot of people here are too. T.T

With soap, I don't really know. I never had a really oily skin, and soap everyday.

Edit, did not read the comments: I see most of the people there thinks it's perfectly normal to shampoo everyday. I'll tell you it's not. I even saw a dermatologist for my hair problem, and he told me it was becuase I started washing them everyday. Most people I know smell great, and shampoo like every 2days? As long as you haven't sweated a lot, you should at leadt try shampooing every 2 days. That's what I'll probably try in the summer.
