No Soap, No Shampoo, No...Stink?
#1
Article that you should read.

Follow-up Article, one year later.

Website where I stumbled across this.

TL;DR Apparently, the chemicals in soap and shampoo really dry out your skin and in order to compensate, your body tends to excrete more oils than it normally would. Once you eliminate soap and shampoo from the equation though, your body normalizes and only produces a small amount of oil. Of course, there's a period of 2-4 weeks where you'll be a bit more oily than usual because it takes some time for your body to adjust, but after that period, everything's great. Oh, and you still continue showering. You just don't use soap/shampoo. This may also apply to acne medicines.

Quite frankly, I've never really used soap my adolescent years. I've been too lazy to. I never smelled, though, and my skin has always been in great condition (my sister, on the other hand, has extremely dry skin). I think I'll stop shampooing a month and see how that goes. I would do the same for the acne medicine, but my parents would probably find out if I didn't use any acne medicine for a month and they'll get mad at me even if I do show them this article.

I seriously doubt this would work well. Though I have never gone more than 4 days without bathing, that much is already very bad.

You can still bathe. Just don't use soap or shampoo.

Most of what makes you smell bad is water insoluble. It doesn't help much to just throw some water on it.

Even if your body regulates and produces less oil, with just water you are eliminating pretty much nothing when you bathe and they would just be accumulating.

Well, I have two accounts here telling the contrary. Doesn't really hurt to try.

How do you then clean yourself? Water doesn't take it all off. I only bathe though, once every two days. I never really saw the every day bath unless I got really dirty.

I actually was told that baby shampoo was good for you.

There is natural soaps and shampoos out there that won't necessarily dry your skin out, because they don't contain chemicals.

Just what nerds need, a justification to continue their greasiness.

I feel like I can discredit this "possible link" because I get headaches extremely often, yet take nothing for them.

Take a dust bath. It removes excess body oils so you don't stink as much.

If they don't use chemicals, what do they use? "all natural ingredients" is a subset of chemicals.

Soap is made up of fats, oils and lye. Lye's just an alkali if anything.

That mixup of cause and effect is probably the base of most alternative health ideas.

Anyways, this guy is using chemicals to clean himself. Yeah, it's just water, but water is a chemical. If he wants his body to be completely natural, then he should either stop bathing or only use pond water.

Natural is a bs definition anyways. Any company can call their products natural.

Good luck with that. My hair is too oily if I don't shampoo it on a daily basis and annoys the hell out of me if I don't shower every day. :/

That's because there's pretty much no difference between natural and unnatural. The only difference is one was re-created in a lab and another was found in some plant.
