Dear Maplers,

The Maple Trading Service (MTS) is temporarily offline while we investigate security and performance issues.

We will provide an update as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I don't remember what's going on, but I'm glad they're (finally) doing something about it.

edit: Nevermind, I was thinking about the pet equip exploit. I wonder what's up with the MTS, then.

Far as I know, the exploits don't require MTS...
This must be a real hidden NX exploit, hence why the reacted (somewhat) fast. Rolleyes

People has been crashing ch¡'s and duping items for a week now, and I bet their procedure is to MTS those duped items and turn them into NX in case of a rollback. I bet this is why Nexon took down MTS until they find out a better thing to do.

Remove MTS and implement cash trade room is clearly the best option for stopping the abuse of rollback FUD. They can either flush it of it's contents or give users a weeks notice to remove anything they have inside. MTS isn't even that useful anymore because you can't sell potentialed items and the tax they implemented is too ridiculous for people to bother with.

People have been crashing channels to dupe stuff, both with merchants and through mts. I guess Nexon wanted to minimize damage, but I dont think it's gonna do pomegranate with the other method still available. I smell a rollback.

This please. It will also lessen NX scammers to little or no scammers. Unless you're buying in just raw NX....

yes thats exactly it.

people dupe stuff, like a 19 attack wg or something, sell on mts for a bunch of nx (i dunno how much that goes for... 50k maybe?) then sell the nx to gold sites for $$$

i know ch 1 windia was wiped out last night, but people have been saying that this has been going on for a week.
whether its a day or a week, the damage would probably be pretty gruesome out there. a rollback is probably the best way to go.

i think that makes 3 for the year. once a month rollbacks, anyone?

Aw man. I had just put a bunch of stuff into MTS in hopes of making enough for some perma pets and equips. Had no idea this kind of thing was going on.

This is what I get for wanting to play MS.

There's no NX exploit that I've heard of, but instead, MTS was used to crash the channels (yes, as strange as this may sound and no, I'm not confusing this with item duping, which they also use MTS for). This subsequently leads to duping and other follow up problems.

Nexon won't get rid of MTS because it's profitable. Other than that, MTS is useful for purchasing scrolls, jewels, skill books, etc. Buying equips on MTS is a stupid idea in my opinion anyway so not having potential or enhanced items on there isn't a big loss.

And cash trade room isn't? I think you should consider the possibilities before deciding which is more profitable on their end. The cube market is far larger than you think it is and would be greatly enhanced by this system.

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:Other than that, MTS is useful for purchasing scrolls, jewels, skill books, etc.

Purchases that are clearly not economical to any moderately informed player. (the vast majority of NX customers are moderately informed as to NX:meso ratios and if they aren't perspective is easily gained when looking at WG prices in both currencies)

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:Buying equips on MTS is a stupid idea in my opinion anyway so not having potential or enhanced items on there isn't a big loss.

Buying equipments on MTS pre-potential was the cheapest and best way to gain end game equipments due to being cross server, thus allowing for a far larger market for the kind of items someone with large amounts of money would want. Potential existing makes every single advantage to buying any equipment on the MTS moot.

Not to mention you're obviously overlooking the fact that even SP members have admitted to abusing meso exploits in order to obtain the remaining items that are still valued in the MTS market to make quick NX, as these transactions are not affected by rollbacks. Cash trade room has no obvious abuse issues and would not require the time of developers to take down and maintain in the situation we are in right now, allowing them to focus on the issues that i'm sure you would agree requires faster resolution.

The channel crashing was with the Cash Shop, not with the MTS. They removed the MTS because when people duped work gloves, they sold it in the MTS. When the channel crashed, they still had their work glove and the NX. Basically it duped both the NX and the glove.

Edit:

The taxes in MTS contribute a lot towards profits. Trade room not as much. Still would love to see cash trade room though.

I buy my jewels, plates, etc. from MTS in bulk. It's far cheaper than what I've seen in free market even with MTS rates. I had a nice deal this morning of 50 mithril plates for 1k NX for example.

I won't disagree with you there. Getting potential and enhancement items compatible with MTS would be great. My previous statement was in agreement with yours about how MTS sucks for current equips.

That would explain the procedure I've heard bits and pieces of then.

MTS has allowed merchants, high levels, anyone who knows what their doing to work towards free NX for years. The NX comes from somewhere, but those people would have otherwise had to buy the NX if we had cash trade room instead. Trade room accelerates trades as cubes and other useable items would be traded for fast meso. Both systems are profitable, but MTS has way more far reaching effects to overall gameplay that are inevitably disadvantageous to Nexon. Cash trade room does not.

Jewels and plates are a bit different because of scarcity due to Nexon removing their drops. They're going through a bit of inflation at the moment because players think they will inflate even more after chaos. Still, using NX on plates and jewels isn't as effective as buying WGs for quick meso, and buying them in bulk isn't really necessary for anything right now anyway except stockpiling, which is only smart if you plan to actually make something with it. Stockpiling for merchanting reasons is dumb since plates and jewels are more easily made. It's just going to be the same as when maker was first released. Everyone stockpiles and then releases everything onto the market at once, resulting in dirt f'ucking cheap ingredients.

And what i said before implied that if potential/enhancement equipments were normalized for the MTS database then it wouldn't be such a useless feature right now. I was kind of agreeing with you to begin with. Buying equipments now is stupid.

This sounds bad.

If I understand correctly, fixing the channel-crashing-dupes-items is nearly impossible, since it's kind of built-in to the way the MapleStory database works. Preventing channel crashing ... harder even than preventing the various spam dc hacks. Again, deep change needed for that.
So I am afraid their solution to the use of MTS to convert duped items to NX will be the same as their solution to the use of Duey to hide contraband.

I've found MTS quite useful for getting scrolls. Some of the less common scrolls are just not to be found in Kradia's little FM on a regular basis. I will miss MTS when it goes. (I will also need to find another place to store some of my junk...)

There is no built in reason for a game server to ever crash based on the actions of a player, ever. That sort of thing can always be fixed.
Likewise preventing item duplication is fairly easy as well for any halfway competent DBA (which they unfortunately lack, but point still stands).

They could easily add a purge-all-items-with-duplicate-ids query to their weekly maintenance checks even. A lot less incentive to dupe if both the original and the dupe are going to be wiped regardless of who has either.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Apparently, they crash the channel by flooding "gift" packets from CS. MTS just gurrantees them, them as the hackers, safety of investment pretty much. I want to come back but the more I step back the more I realize hackers have more power in this game than anything. I don't think there's not much nexon can do too stop it, especially with no incentive too.
