And the lesson here?
If you're going to make poor decisions, make sure they affect a lot of people! You'll have to be bailed out!

Now in the news ~ it is official that Washington Mutual has gone down! The Fed took it from them and Chase has bought it for 1.9 billion. GO CHASE! They say they would have done this even if the Fed had not stepped in.

Glad I had no stock in WaMu because at this point, it does not exist.

Have you all thought about how the US government is going to get 700 billion big ones? The printing presses are going to run on overdrive. That means....the value of the US dollar is going to go WAYYYYYY down.

Invest in minerals! They will be the same price all over the world. <3 gold

It's either that or they use taxpayer money, which is even worse.

Well, inflation of the dollar has some mayor advantages also, American products get a lot cheaper outside the US (Europe / Asia / etc). Same goes for jobs.

This will mean there will be more demand for American products:
> more jobs in america
> more ppl are employed
> more ppl earn more money
> more ppl spend more money in america (normal shopping, etc)
> more tax income
> Americans get wealthier
> all is back to normal...

One problem: This cycle will take a few years to complete (5~10 years).

Obama was sponsoring a bill that would give 870 bil in foreign aid. At least these 700 are going to do something for the American taxpayer.

Going to do something for the american taxpayer? American taxpayers are the ones forking over the money, and it's not to help them, its to help the people on wallstreet who made poor investments.

IMO, this is somewhat stupid. The whole reason we're in a "recession" is because of the useless war. It's but us into 3 trillion dollars (at least!) of debt. If we want to get the economy back on its feet, we need to pay of this debt.

If you look back into US history by about a century, we began the 20th century weak and in isolation, came out of that isolation to claim a prominent role through World War I, suffered the Great Depression, (which along with WWI caused WWII,) came OUT of the Great Depression directly because of WWII, and then became one of the top dogs on the international scene in the aftermath of WWII in our Cold War fight against Russia.

So, World War II, not the New Deal, was directly responsible both for our finished recovery from the Great Depression. Maybe it had something to do with the whole country getting jobs making weapons, etc. where before there were no jobs at all. War is not bad for business, it just depends on the circumstances.

I just don't want George Bush dictating how we will "recover" from this one. The guy has basically made all his buddy buddies rich at the country's expense, which is how I know he is not stupid -- an idiot could not pull all this pomegranate, get everything he wanted and get away with it. It has yet to be seen whether McCain/Obama will do something useful or grind the country even more into dirt, but Bush should not be the one to tell us how to recover from what he caused.

UPDATE $700 billion bill

BAILOUT BILL EPIC FAIL

Apparently the bill they were in a hurry to make is a bad plan. This caused at some point during the day for the stock market (DOW, NASDAQ, S&P 500 indexes) to plunge more than 8%. Bill is EPIC FAIL.

Me to congressmen:
IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE A PLAN THAT COSTS 500-700 BILLION TO RECOVER THE ECONOMY MAKE A PLAN THAT WORKS AND A PLAN MOST PEOPLE CAN AGREE ON. REMEMBER IT IS THE PEOPLES ECONOMY!

Wow so fast. I just found out about this 5 minutes ago lol

Here's a quote from the article you posted

The measure, which is designed to get battered U.S. credit markets working normally again, needed 218 votes for passage. But it came up 13 votes short of that target, as the final vote was 228 to 205 against. About 60% of Democrats and fewer than 33% of Republicans voted for the measure.

Seems like the democrats were the ones who wanted the bill to pass, but it was the Republicans who made then rejected the bill. Man what a crazy world we live in. Now the stock market is in even worste shape then before the bill was announced due to everyone investing, counting on the bill to work.

I don't understand why American taxpayers that work 40 hours a week at least should have to pay for bad investments by the rich and elite in Wall Street and Washington. Seems like a scam to me in order to bail out Washington's closest friends and allies.

Say hallo to Great Depression 2!

Seriously. 800 points the DOW fell. 800! This beat the old #1 nose dive in a single day, which was a couple weeks ago.

So was Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression. It made no difference to anyone of the time.

Wow, we managed to do to ourselves what Al Qaeda couldn't. (9/11 --> extended depression)
