The Free Market needs a change.

You realize DC hacks are used to harass others, for reasons that have nothing to do with FM, 50x more than they're used for fm spots, right? Reasons that Nexon can't fix.

Also, it's always easier to fix the reason something malicious is used, but that don't mean the malicious thing should just be ignored. Are you saying you would be ok with Nexon not ever fixing DC hacks, and just fixing reasons some people get spammed by them?

That still leaves the spammers who are just plain plantains, locking high-leveled players because they can solo HT. Or because they just don't like them.

Then you have the random kids D/C hacking just for the hell of it.

Thanks for ninja'ing me, Derek. Rolleyes

I understand that it doesn't solve all of the problems, but completely fixing hacks is about as possible as stopping all criminals in the world. It's easier to better educate people than to try to catch all criminals.

Also, DC hackers on well known people is a much smaller part of the population than people trying to set up regular permits on the FM. It's just the most vocal part of the population.

I agree with Killed on your earlier comment Shidoshi. He's such a rich famous guy in my home of Broa that people get jealous of his green nx and dc hack him just for that. I mean, how else are you going to stop a level 200? They beat the game so you can't go and ks them, if they come to ks you their equips are probably good so you lose.

"I know. Let's use the dc hacks to make it so they can't play."

That's a bad analogy. You make it sound like trying to fix dc hacks means going to every hackers computer and breaking it. It's more like fixing the game itself so that hackers can't exploit it.

I think what he meant to say is, even if you fix the hacks there are still going to be people hacking or trying to hack again.

It's impossible to make the game exploit proof. That's what I meant with the analogy. Hackers will always find new ways to ruin your game.

Doesn't mean Nexon should just ignore them and work their game around them lol

There's a difference of hackers ruining your game, and hackers running your game. IMO, hackers are basically running Maplestory. Take for example, other MMORPGs. There is bound to be some form of hacking, but in most cases it's actually quite harmless to the overall gameplay and stability of the game. Now take Maplestory. Hackers Inflate the market, DC other players, KS you, steal your account, and just all around make Maplestory a depressing place. And what does Nexon do about it? Nothing, really. They say they do. They say they ban 10000 hackers, but the very next day there are just new hackers hogging all the channels once again.

Jellyflower Wrote:You guys are thinking of solutions to patch holes within holes.

Two portals within each fm that link to adjacent rooms or a dimensional mirror for easier browsing. Enlarging each FM room allowing up to 40+ shops to be set up will be better.

First line is how I feel about your other suggestions. Our current FM sucks - why keep any aspect of it? Kill it with fire and make a new auction house with proper searches, auctions, etc. for mesos. If Nexon needs to make money on it, sell permits that limit your number of items - normal shop permit = 8 listings at a time, vip permit = 16 at a time, master merchant permit = 32 at a time, and so on. Maybe for a freebie let people list 1-2 items at once. It'll be enough for the casuals.

Getting rid of the stupid FM rooms with zero organization will be a blessing for every player who wants to buy/sell their items efficiently.

I'm loving the idea of having free FM searches. It often takes me hours, sometimes days, to find what I want.

Why not fix the game mechanics which allow these hacks to work, and revamp aspects of the game which tempt players to hack the game? We'd have far less problems if the game was harder to hack and discouraged people from even trying.

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:I highly doubt that Nexon will abandon its current system. It generates way too much money with its shop permits, mushies, and owls.
Pretty sure no one reasonable suggested an NX-less FM. Obviously that would never fly by Nexon.
However, fixing the market would lead to more people using it, resulting in more NX expenditure.

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:Seeing as how Nexon won't change to an MTS or Auction House GUI for Free Market
I'm pretty sure that just over a year ago, no one would see them revamping the entire damn game.
Unless they flat out said it will never changing, saying it won't is just dumb.

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:1) Shop Grids. No more taking up multiple spaces for shops.
2) Automatically have NPC's at each grid spot when a shop is opened. There's no need to sit in FM all day just because you need to sell something.
3) A shop opening fee of maybe 5m. Meso sinks are nice. Only one shop may be opened per character.
4) All players have an initial 8 slots to sell items. To sell more items, they need to purchase NX, that way, Nexon will still generate money.
5) All shops will have a 24 hour countdown before closing. This is already implemented.
6) Searching items in FM can be done at the FM entrance. 1m per search and scans only the current channel you're in and lists the prices of all the items. Once again, meso sinks are nice.
7) Upon searching the items, if results are found, an addition 1m to teleport to the said shop would needed to be paid. Once again, meso sinks are nice.
1) I like this simply for cleanliness. Honestly, if there's a search function, there's no reason to browse the FM though.
3) Mesos sinks are nice, but that's a rather extravagant price. Would you be able to adjust your inventory without having to repay the 5m? Because such a price pretty much kicks anyone without millions of mesos out of the market and starts your profit at -5m.
4) Giving characters free slots results in an easily abused system. Would this prevent someone from opening a shop on another character on the same account? Even if it did, you wouldn't be able to stop people from abusing mules.
Creating a shop should either be NX-less or totally NX-reliant. Since the former will never happen, they should keep requiring NX to set up a shop.
That said, I think 7-day shops are stupid. I've never bought one purely because it's a ridiculous amount of NX for such a small window.
5) I like this idea. Curious why you said this is already being implemented though.
6) I like this idea, but not the cost. I'd personally be willing to pay $1m per search, but a lot of people wouldn't be.
7) Yeah, this shouldn't happen. Meso sinks are nice, but highway robbery is not. That means searching in the first place is basically just a price check.

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:5) Heavy meso sinks reduce the amount of hackers deliberately deflating the price of their goods.
I don't see how this would be an issue.
Why would hackers be deliberately deflating the price of their goods?

ShanghaiDizzy Wrote:Actually, I didn't lose sight of that in the least bit. While I do understand that not all players have access to 5m readily to open up their shops (and keep in mind, this is a hypothetical amount for a meso fee as it can be 3m or 10m eitherway), this will also reduce the amount of people using mule characters to hog up spots in the FM just to be able to sell more goods and also reduce the idea of people deliberately selling extra low just to sell an item off. The NX costs are for those who wish to earn a little bit more with their shops through using extra slots all while providing Nexon the income they seek from shop permits, mushies, and more.
Yeah, you did. You're punishing everyone without actually fixing a problem in the process.
Using your pricing plan, people would still use mules to sell more goods.

I believe the current NX:meso ratio is 1:15, no?
5k for 8 extra slots for 7 days would be equivalent to 75m mesos. That's 10.7m per day, double what it would be to just use a mule.

And what's the problem with selling an item low just to sell it? I actually hate that this is not a bigger part of Maplestory economics because I'd much rather get a bit of mesos for my items than have them sit in my inventory forever.

Jellyflower Wrote:You guys are thinking of solutions to patch holes within holes. If packet editing is eliminated, some of the measures would not be necessary.
No, we're thinking of solutions to the mess that is the FM system.

Fixing packet editing wouldn't stop the long-ass tread through the FM.
It wouldn't fix the invisibility of most shops.
It wouldn't fix the spastic pricing that occurs all over Maplestory.

Though, if we are going to go off-topic, let me ask a rhetorical question:
Does anyone actually believe Nexon can eliminate packet editing?
Because, if they could, I'd think they would seeing as it would eliminate all hacks.

Don't get me wrong: I know absolutely nothing about how the packet editing/sending gadgetry works. I've never bothered looking into it. But it doesn't seem to me that it's something that Nexon can just stop.

Jellyflower Wrote:Instead, you should be able to register your mushroom shops to an npc outside free or for a fee so people can browse through the list of locations. You can track's permit shops but you can't with hired merchants.
Such a system would only benefit big merchants and not the average buyer.
The lack of the average shop being visible would persist.

Killed Wrote:This is exactly what I was thinking. These suggestions are because people are sick of D/C spams, map crashes, botting, monopolies. Why can't Nexon just fix those to begin with instead of making new stuff to avoid them?
Ya'll act like there is some easy fix, despite all these things occuring for over five years.
This same company let three different meso exploits occur this year despite them all operating on the same principle.

I don't think anyone is trying to completely work the game around them, it would just be nice if the FM was more streamlined with these ideas. That way, at least if Nexon is unable to stop D/C hacking, at least people in the FM are safe. Yeah, it would be more efficient to put a complete halt on D/C hacking, but easier said than done -- it wouldn't hurt to just implement some counter measures that abates some of the frustrations in the FM concerning D/C hacking. There are other benefits too: like not having to keep your computer running for hours on end needlessly just to sell an item which also keeps you from training.

Don't get me wrong, these ideas are nice and I wouldn't actually mind them to make it easier for people to FM altogether, not just to combat against hackers.

A lot of these ideas can make my FM experience better, I dread looking for ONE item I need, and wasting 30 minutes to an hour.

It's really irritating too when you need a rare item... you could search the entire FM, not find it, and have wasted so much time.

It's worse that in some cases, even if you use an owl, you're still not finding what you're looking for. (This is especially in regards to potential equips, particularly earrings and all of the different colored class equips. If you're just looking for something with a specific potential, how can you be sure what to owl for in the first place?!)

^ this, especially when you try and find simple monster drops. I've used owls to find a lvl 80 glove and there isnt one in FM. This is a common item that people find by the hundreds daily, yet its not in FM because it isnt worth selling to the people that can afford the NX stores. What's stupid is using 700NX and paying 1-2m mesos for something that ANYONE could find in under an hour..and isn't even a little rare. What nexon should do is sort shops by the ammount of profit they make. Free shops that allow you to sell items under 100k, or 1m even. A way for new players to work their way up into a profitable merchanting level.

*edit* before peopel start peaching about the FM being packed full of worthless items, there would be seperate rooms for these shops

honestly this would clean the main FM up so much too, how many rooms are just pomegranate like random etc items and equips under 5m that the real FM browsers could care less about

Educating Maplers? Most hackers dont see other maplers as actual people , i dont see how it would be even possible to show them that others have feelings.

Besides they should make a free permit available since the permit exploit hackers have been using for the past months really isnt fair towards the legit community.

A free owl could work warranted by the idea that was mentioned before that there would be a daily limit. Nexon would probably introduce then a "premium" owl that would be the same price as current owls that could search all items that include certain words. For example, if you searched for work gloves with a premium owl, you would be returned with search results including brown,yellow,red,blue....rainbow, whatever work gloves. Nexon wouldn't scrap the idea of cash shop owls completely if they introduced free in game ones.

Are almost all channels in the scania free market really full O_O? Guess that scraps my idea of them reducing the amount of free market rooms which would lead to more channels being used as opposed to the current "this channel is full, time to move to the next" kind of deal >.<. For some reason browsing through various channels in the free market seems better and would eliminate a lot of the clutter to the more popular channels.

An invisible grid is a nifty idea too though, nothing wrong with making the rooms look more organized and every room allowing the same amount of shops.

I'm amused at this thread, good discussion, its interesting to see everyones input.
