Are we really that needful of challenges that we have to deny changing a time-consuming process to be more accessible?
I'd rather we save tons of players hours of time spent clicking and playing 'remember the prices' so they can get back to the ACTUAL game, and perhaps better yet, using that freed up time FARMING to bring more items to sell into the market. That sounds a lot better and more engaging than players surfing FM 'drop hunting' for cheap prices instead. The auction house feature may seemingly kill merchanting, but i've witnessed in other games that if all the prices out there are shown side by side then suddenly players are gonna try harder to price lower to ensure sales over trying to get the 'expensive spot'. In the case of MS: just maybe, not so much merchanting would be needed in the first place if such were the case.

Most fm 1 spots have always been full in scania so there has been little change to scania's fm I wouldn't waste my time checking cc 14 fm 10 even if it was full of stores. People who value their stuff to sell take measures to ensure it sells, by either getting a good spot or smegaing

1024 x 768 resolution made FM surfing slightly easier with the ability to see all 3 rows at the same time. However, a in-game owl would make my life so much easier. Ever since Big Bang patch came into effect, the FMs here have practically doubled in size with channels that weren't full before starting to fill up almost as fast as other channels. It's almost like Scania. Scania has almost all 19 channels in FM 1-3 full of stores or guild HQs where people used to or are currently selling their boss run's equips or runs (back then).
I would also like to note that yo72's opinions about the FM system and his constant pessimism is due to the fact that Scania FMs are so full, that no one would be an idiot to bother searching for a specific equip there. His thoughts and views on the matter are completely different, and he's still being a pessimist. You have to understand that this is under Maple Discussion, and is asking for discussion over the matter that is being asked. This isn't a thread asking and reinforcing the stated featured to be added into the game rebelliously.

Okay, really??? This bullcrap about a free search feature killing merchanting is bad. Search function and the ability to place your item for everyone to see and buy would make it easier to merchant in a way. One of my big complaints is having to spend a good 30-60 minutes to look through the entire free market for anything worth buying, and I'm in Bellocan. I can't even begin to imagine how hellish Scania is, where practically every channels' Free Market 1 is clogged with shops. It makes it easier for people to find and buy your stuff, and it makes it easier for YOU to find and buy stuff. More speed in getting what you want, less time wasted browsing, everybody wins. It also means you can't monopolize as easily anymore, which means bye-bye to those guilds whose sole purpose is to harass/DC people out of FM 1 because it's the best spot. Yes I'm aware it means FM guilds could probably buy out items more easily with the same system, but with the sheer amount of players bringing in items I'd like to see them try.

That's a very good point... making it more MTS-like would prevent DC hackers and map crashers from playing havoc with the market. I don't know how much it sucks to get your FM shop repeatedly crashed (cause I haven't bought one since about 2008) but I imagine it doesn't make the game more fun.
Monopolies are easier to prevent when you have free price checks - why? Because it's easier for 1) players to undercut the merchants by 1-2% to get the quick sell 2) other players to find those single items in cheap shops I don't think "merchants" have a right to rip off players. They don't have a right to monopolize certain items, or take over FM rooms by DC hacking anyone who intrudes. If they can't make money with an Auction House, then they were doin' it wrong in the first place.

Going by hidden-street's info GFA 60% which is probally wrong but w/e, is dropped by about 3 commonly hunted mobs and thats a stretch to say. And is given by a couple quests, it is probally one of the easiest to monopolize and most common item sold in fm. To scroll a pair a gloves it would take about 15hrs of work, so how is that better than searching fm?

Even if some merchants buy up all the glove scrolls at any given time in FM, the supply from outside is infinite, making a monopoly impossible. I know they can artificially rise and lower prices if they know what they are doing, but that is not the same thing as monopoly. To monopolize glove att scrolls they'd need to secure the sources. Their chance at that is similar to the chance of survival for a snowman suddenly placed in hell.

There is NO legit way to form a monopoly in ms.

I'll add this: Remove NX only shop permits altogether. Everyone should be able to sell without spamming up FM. -_-

I would imagine there reaches a point where the merchant will not be able to continuously sell the product as fast as he is obtaining them through buying out the FM. How much backstock does the merchant have to continuously accumulate before it stops being worthwhile. It takes a really long time to sell 1000 scrolls at an inflated price even without competition and it will just keep growing as they try to snatch up more undercut scrolls.
Not to mention that opposing merchants will probably try to commit to the same task and they can't all be the monopoly.

That's not just the dictionary definition of monopoly, that's the "I understand basic economics and I know what the hell I'm talking about" definition. Considering a lot of the supply of such items comes from hacking and botting, and how many of the wealthiest players are closely associated with said activities, though, it's not very hard for a small group of players to control a large portion of the market for a particular item. This thread is way the pineapple off-topic.

Many many more people would sell stuff, and alot more of it instead of just the 16 item limit or whatever. So a MTS-version would be cram packed with loads of garbage just like MTS. It would be nearly impossible to scan every page for things to buy for cheap and resell. Exactly how would that be when I explicitly specified behaving the exact same way at the exact same costs as the existing NX merchanting based system? Are thousands of people going to suddenly buy NX just to cram garbage into the new FM? That seems improbable at best and even if they did the whole point of it being in that format would be to quickly wade through the stuff you're not interested in.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

free FM searches would be huge in helping keep prices from getting too high and help ease the amount of time people have to spend searching the FM

2 words: auction house, best merchanting system.
takes me less than 1 min to find something i want on WoW, dont need to fking waste 1 hours searching for the item i want. |
