So, I want to root my phone, a G2, but I'm also afraid of earning myself a fabulous paperweight, so I want to learn what is necessary in order to pull this off successfully.
Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost...ostcount=1
My questions are:
1/ If something goes wrong, even though I manage to follow the instructions flawlessly (or think I do), at any given point EXCEPT the critical points, as pointed out in the guide, do I have the option to abort mission and continue my average Joe usage of the phone?
2/ Can someone translate it into human-readable English? Specifically the tasks such as "pushing a file to a system directory", "opening a terminal", or the definitions of the terms themselves.
Sure, I found some reading material to do, but it's always nice to compare what I understand to what things actually are.
3/ Will rooting a phone now get in the way of updating my OS later on?
4/ How do I check whether my G2 has been updated to the OTA update back in Nov? I bought this one in the box from a T-Mobile retail store. It does have the features included in the update, such as wifi calling and wifi hotspot tethering and what-not. But since the update was manual, I assumed no one took this phone out of the box, updated, and put it back in.
I'll surely be educating myself in the meanwhile.
UPDATE: What I get so far:
- ADB's definition
- ADB set-up
- *some* ABD commands: pulling, pushing, mounting. Though I haven't tried any of them, they seem to be pretty basic file manipulation commands.
