Over the past couple of days of my recently first Level 70 character (Mechanic), I have seen this same guy spamming the same site with either tespia or maplestory in front of nexon.-insert rest here- saying its either for Chaos Tespia, Free 25kNX or some other pomegranate.

Was combatentte even picked? I don't remember. Nexon "reads the forums". Clearly if someone is so pro-tespia and clearly shows a willingness to do REAL WORK they should have the authority to make that kind of specialized pick. And it shouldn't apply to just him. I'll admit i was f'ucking pissed i didn't get in for the big bang tespia (and i would have done work because i really did not have THAT much to do at the time) and i think i would have been a damn fine candidate because i tested big bang in KOREA, but obviously i need to play the game that provides no real incentive for me to log on anymore in order for Nexon to know that i am interested in tespia.
Their selection process was shoddily put together, childishly implemented, and the fact is that it could have been done WAY better simply by creating better criteria or even by doing it the way KMS does it. Form oriented entry. You yourself agree big bang was a flop. The selection process was a direct result of that. shouri Wrote:Nexon has no idea whether those people who stopped playing, just stopped playing period, or were waiting for BB (despite that we knew)... maybe they left for WoW's big incoming patch or other games. If they decided to include people that showed inactivity for the past two weeks, they may end up getting fewer testers than they need. It is not hard at all to include a case for unopened invitations, nor is it hard to include characters who are inactive recently (at the time) but were active shortly before that time. Tespia is a big deal and once forums know invitations were sent, it is not hard to imagine inactives (waiting for big bang or otherwise) checking their account only to be disappointed they were excluded because they don't care enough about playing pre-BB to test post-BB.

I wantz in. I mean, seriously, I think it hurt my chances of becoming a tester because Round 3 (in '08) everyone just leveled up and goofed around, they never did anything, most of them just abused the summoning Balrog glitch, or just AFKd or abused the glitches without reporting them in. Everyone who didn't do anything productive during that round of Tespia ruined my chances of getting in, I actually went into Ariant, did most of the quests I could (Tespia was glitched for the first couple of days without any extensions, not allowing anyone to go past the tutorial) and I actually reported a few bugs/glitches.
I want the ROund 1 Recruitment for Tespia thing back. Level 50+ Type your name down if you want access. Maybe the level requirement could be adjusted but that way, you have no inactive users who don't even play the game, nor even go on the website to even check if they got in.

Speaking of childish... your whole rant is misdirected anger because you weren't picked. The issue with tespia isn't who did/didn't get in; it's that Nexon didn't run the test server properly. They neglected to address a ton of reported issues, they didn't change anything within the tespia server during the testing period. Putting you, me, Isaac, Combattente, Fiel, Eos and even Jesus himself wouldn't change jack as long as Nexon keeps running the server the way they did during the big bang testing period. Their participation credentials are fine as they are.

They should make an application process for all potential testers. Sure, it'll take more time to go through the applications, but at least you're sure to find quality testers that will actually report bugs.
Oh, but none of that matters if they don't do anything with the reports.

To say they didn't change ANYTHING is pretty extreme. They obviously changed SOME of the issues, just not enough to satisfy you. Having tespia up allowed them to fix issues that they could have been aware of already, or they fixed some that they didn't know about. Either way they were given the documentation for the errors they did not have time to fix and that in itself is invaluable especially now that they have all the time in the world to fix s'hit while developing new content.

I think they only fix the gamebreaking glitched that get discovered in tespia. There actually was one I think: There were random "You have been banned for the HACK reason" popups that actually banned you, and they changed it to just dc'ing you.

The point is, you can't call their method of choosing participants flawed because 1. We don't know what all of the credentials are, 2. We don't have a record of what bugs are reported by the testers and 3. Nexon doesn't hold up their end and without them properly taking care of Tespia you can't place the blame on the testers or their method of choosing testers.

Yes, I was selected, but only in the round 2 (which is the Big Bang one) of the "new Tespia". I call it "new Tespia" because many things, from the selection process, to the website, to how the things in-game work (no more high EXP/Drop rates, no more NPC which gives out skillbooks, items and mesos (this one should be really fixed, to allow a smoother testing), etc.) to the whole thing itself (apparently, now, when you're selected, your account automatically becomes a "Tespia" account forever, and you get access to all the future testing rounds unless you do something bad, such as sending in fake reports, which has you removed from Tespia). I was also only selected after participating in the Bug Report event, where you had to send-in a mail where you described a bug you recently reported, possibly on their forums. I can't say if it was that which got me in, since they never announced the winners, but still, I was lucky because I had reported the graphic/compatibility issues which MapleStory had with my graphic card and Windows 7 really thoroughly some weeks before the event even started, so I could prove that I really was a contributing user who was willing to test and report issues in the game in a clear and possibly thorough manner. They didn't even select me for the testing of the Unwelcome Visitor event, even after the various threads I made on their forums, which (I might be wrong though) might have had at least a small impact on their choice to re-open Tespia, since a lot of people also agreed with what I said. Also, I confirm what the thread starter showed. They DID update the website, and the last line in the "news" box is "02/25/11 Tespia is now closed". I last checked the site not too long ago, and the Tespia is now closed message had still the old date. Now, why would they change the date of that? It's not like Tespia has been opened shortly before that date anyways. But.. maybe they want us to know that a new round will come soon. Well, the change of the site's style is enough "proof" of that to me. Anyways, I agree about the selection process sucking, even if I'm a selected member of Tespia. They should bring back the old selection process (which is also KMST's), which consisted of a button you had to click to have a chance to be selected. Obviously, they should also state the requirements (which, for some reason, they usually want to hide - maybe there aren't really any?), and, they should finally choose accounts using those criteria. That way, not only would unactive accounts be left out, but they'd also be able to keep track of those who apply with multiple accounts, and act consequently (exclude all the accounts with the same IP from the event). It wouldn't obviously prevent people from signing up with multiple accounts with different IPs, but at least it'd leave out people who don't even know how to change their IP, which is enough to me. Also, the requirements should be pretty high, and they should be based on the level of the main character, the number of total hours played, the contribute given in their forums or through the ticket system, and some others I can't think of right now. I REALLY, REALLY hope this time Cody will work properly. A smooth and successful testing requires optimal conditions. Their official testers probably get to test stuff much better than we do. They probably get to have free NX to be able to potential and cube their equips, free scrolls, etc., which allows them to have powerful characters to defeat strong bosses and mobs smoothly. I made a feedback report through the Tespia report system (it includes feedback, yeah) and a thread in their forums the last time, which were apparently ignored. Let's hope they DID read them and the other comments from the users and acted consequently. Useless to say, I will be testing this time as well, and will update you whenever something changes or the client is released.

I still can't believe that I somehow "won", and got in from that contest, so I'm assuming they chose way more than just 10 people.

I can only speculate... Hime said that as part of the selection process, she/he was given 10 Tespia slots to give out via the contest. I expect several hundred, maybe a thousand accounts were added to Tespia, but the whole process is so opaque it's impossible to be sure how any of them were chosen.

We know there is one, and we know it was significant because otherwise Nexon would not continue to launch tespia again and again. If tespia was shut down so long ago due to a lack of bug records, then we can say tespia is continued because of the opposite. 3) Nexon holds up their end to the best of their ability and since we know tespia only proves to improve their ability to fix stuff...then Nexon is doing fine. A producer for Nexon clearly placed the blame on the testers for why tespia was taken down. Obviously blaming the testers is something we can do, and because we can blame the testers we can blame the cause for testers sucking d'ick. The cause being the method for choosing testers. You cannot possibly deny that improved credentials means improved tester base, which improves the effectiveness of tespia overall.

And boy have you got an ego. It doesn't matter when it happened though, your anger is misdirected and you're the one who was lashing out at them for not picking you even though it was ENTIRELY your fault. The world doesn't bend to your whim. As I said earlier, being a current player is a foreseeable credential. You've got a ton of unrealistic expectations about how Tespia participants should be chosen. Quote:Doesn't have much to do with your OVERALL point, but it's a focused response to one part of your response. Specifically towards the part that implied that they did NOTHING. Which they did not.At no point did I ever suggest they did nothing. I stated that they didn't change TESPIA at all during the testing period, which prevented testers from doing their job properly. Quote:1) Because we don't know all of them effectively means we can assume there weren't any others. We know what they've told us, and that's all that matters to the argument that their credentials were lacking. I don't even know where to start with this. 1. Assuming what the credentials are will only lead to faulty conclusions. There were absolutely others that they didn't tell us about, be it picking specific community members or just using a random number generator. Since you don't know what those credentials were, you can't fault their method of choosing testers. 2. How can you claim the testers didn't do their job properly without a record of what bugs they reported? Also for some reason you suddenly went the opposite direction with this and instead of blaming the testers you're saying they must be doing an adequate job for tespia to stay alive, which is probably true but it doesn't help YOUR point, it helps mine. 3. Nexon didn't hold up their end at all. This is ridiculous and I'll explain why within the address to your next paragraph which is absolutely preposterous. Quote:A producer for Nexon clearly placed the blame on the testers for why tespia was taken down. Obviously blaming the testers is something we can do, and because we can blame the testers we can blame the cause for testers sucking d'ick. The cause being the method for choosing testers. You cannot possibly deny that improved credentials means improved tester base, which improves the effectiveness of tespia overall. A producer for Nexon said something that redirected any blame from them and you're taking it at face value? Have you learned nothing from the last two years? Nexon is not accountable for their actions and I'm sure they're either unaware or unwilling to admit that the way they run Tespia isn't anywhere close to effective, thus they pass the blame to the testers. Here's how Tespia fails because of Nexon. They open up a test server and let players run free for 3 - 10 days and report whatever bugs they find and then be on their merry way. What's wrong with that? Well how about that there's no live server data so players can't test compatibility issues, character issues, etc. There's a very limited amount of time and they expect testers to play as normal while all starting from the same point, which severely limits the amount of ground they can cover. And finally, they take whatever data they get from testers and possibly fix some issues while leaving others before applying it to the live patch, expecting nothing will go wrong. If they were holding up their end they would provide a stable environment (GMS big bang tespia was nearly unplayable for approximately 5 days iirc due to crashing bugs. Remember Ariant too?) they would address bugs on the run, issuing a new tespia patch at least every other day if not EVERY DAY or even multiple times a day, given the severity of an issue and finally, they'd bring in live server data to test against the new content. They overlook important things like the effects of putting new data into an existing environment, and that can be changed by allowing people to bring their pomegranate over like they did for the visitor one. But all of these practices AND MORE must take place during every Tespia session or else it will always be doomed to failure, regardless of who the testers are. This is why it's Nexon's fault, not the testers. This is my last post because you've got a habit of not absorbing what you don't want to hear and I'm not going to continue arguing this. My point is made.
