and... I love that kyubei murder so hard. SO HARD. Aside from that... enjoyed Sayaka's change from a bratty sidekick to an insane warrior of 'justice' that ended in that amazing looking soul gem corruption scene.
Wow, just wow. So much happened this episode. A few of the theories behind the plot were 100% confirmed, such as Homura coming from a different timeline to stop Madoka from becoming a magical girl and the fact that magical girls turn into witch. And "Inkyubeitor". So satisfying seeing him blown to bits, followed by disappointment to see him return... and then eat his own body. The character development for Sayaka and Homura was absolutely amazing. Also, Homura has grenades and a gun (what she put holes into Kyubey with)?
In the scene at the beginning of the episode where Sayaka and Madoka talk, was the person in that brief "flashback" Madoka in the alternate timeline as a magical girl holding her soul gem out?

Madoka Magica - 8 - Phenomenal. Absolutely awesome how this single episode confirms almost all theories we have, while still giving us even more to look into.
Love that I called there being trolling in this episode and possibly next.
Nitty Gritty
Homura is indeed from another timeline. Now the question is, is it a parallel timeline, or is it the future? If she is indeed the cat Madoka is holding in the OP, then does Kyubey begin the cycle at some point in the future, and Homura is somehow wished into having her soul taken from the cat and she gets a new body to use or something?
For Homura, I think she is from the future, and that it most likely is that she was friends with Madoka and Sayaka and Hitomi possibly even, before something happened and the witches came about.
Homura's weapon? I almost want to say War itself. Think about it from the first episode, she was attacking Kyubey with balls of energy, she had a grenade in her shield in this episode, and she was using a gun when she killed Kyubey. I think her weapon is actually her shield, and it is able to pull weapons from any time past, present, or future.
Kyubey is actually an incubator, so it would seem instead of calling him a garbage disposal system, we should call him a garbage compactor. He collects the sins and of the magical girls and concentrates the dark powers.
Another thing about Kyubey we learned, is that he has multiple bodies, which actually makes sense. When Sakura was introduced, Kyubey mentioned that he had called her to come take over the area that Mami was leaving behind. Now, how is he supposed to call her when, at least telepathically, you have to be within a certain range? Singlemind>>multiple bodies. This also shows why he went and ate the body that was left after he was killed by Homura. That body still contained whatever grief seeds it had taken in, as well as any possible evil that the evil bastard has normally.
Next Episode Theories
Given the name and what they talked about, they are going to save Sayaka somehow, and it could be possible that they succeed, where in Homura's normal time, they were not able to. The question is, is it because Madoka becomes a magical girl, or is it because Sayaka is able to fight back within cursed state.
IS - 8 - Bitch Mode activated! Charlotte is my faves. Lawld my ass off at Laura telling Ichika that he is to be her wife. Is Laura some kind of double trap or something?!?! Anyways, this is gonna be going in as my second favorite harem at this rate. First being To Love Ru.

About homura, I'd say she has a very close relationship with Madoka. Either from the future or from the past (as we see her fighting against what I think is the alpurgisnight (spell?) for Madoka in an alternate time), my guess is she is Madoka's mother which would explain her crying so much when talking about how people cared for Madoka and her strong will to help/protect Madoka.
Fractale 06 This anime reminds me so much of the story of Eureka seveN that it's not even funny.
So...an Incubator hatches eggs...but Kyubey "hatches" witches? Interesting. Just what is Kyubey planning? What does he stand to gain from it all?
Anyways, if Madoka really does have as much potential as Kyubey says, then she can will the dark energies within Soul Gems into nothingness...plus she and her friends will all be invincible. Well, I'm guessing it's a lie to get her to contract with him; if she does have that much power, she can easily turn against Kyubey and crush him.

Jebus, the theorists were right on. Amazing job.
pineappleing theorists. How do they work
But why does Kyubei make mahou shoujo to become witches then make new mahou shoujo to kill witches?
edit: Oh I just remember he eats the dead witches' gem with that eternal void in his back a few episodes ago. That was a huge plot device that they left unexplained; especially since he told Sakaya not to think about it when she asked him what he does with the dead witches. Expecting that to come back.
The Homura = Madoka's mom theory has been around for maybe 4 episodes or so, but hasn't really been brought out as much as in this episode when Homura actually broke down into tears and threw out the stoic douchebag act. It mainly came from the fact that the two of them have the same eyes, and coupled in with Homura's time altering powers (altering her age so Madoka can't recognize her). I personally don't really think this will turn out to be true. Madoka was remembering something about her but pushed it aside, as if she didn't want to remember. But then again, it's hard to tell what this could be hinting to. It could mean that she's realizing it's her own mom, it could mean that she's remembering meeting the Homura of her own time line, it could mean that her memories are kind of merging with her alternate timeline self (in that case we'd have some Blick Winkle stuff going on, don't look that up if you plan on reading Ever17).
There was also the theory that Homura is actually Madoka from the future, kind of like Fate/Stay Night. This theory was first brought up by thew fact that in the promotional art, both Madoka and Homura use bows as their weapons. I think that'd be a funny idea considering Urobuchi wrote Fate/Zero.
And then of course there's Waluigi night, the night when Walmart opens up for all the witches to shop at, and we all know that anyone that shops at Walmart is evil. I'm guessing Kyubey is the manager of this Walmart that's opening up, and he plans on selling his harvested grief seeds to witches so they have extra lives! It's a complete win/win situation for him, the devilish bastard.
But really, next episode, I'm seriously expecting Kyouko to die trying to save Sayaka. Madoka will probably witness it because she'll probably meet Kyouko and they'll try discussing a way to make it work.
By the way, now that we know ALL Magic Girls are supposed to mature into witches, it's a good thing Mami died. She dies as a hero, and never has to deal with that downward spiral into absolute despair before breaking.
CionS101 Wrote:A bit off-topic but how would you react if this was Madoka's wish?
Spoiler
Knowing Homura, she'll be put into a situation where she's forced to, whether she wants to or not, make this wish come true by her own actions in order to prevent Madoka from really making the wish.
If you put it in that sense, I'm glad Mami died, however, I really wish she played an even larger role in the series. She was probably my 2nd favorite character in the entire series, since she always gave out that "pro"-status vibe ever since the first couple episodes. I really don't think she'll ever make another appearance in the series, unless Madoka makes a wish that [blah blah blah]. But enough of my if's, because that's not getting us anywhere.
Here's what I don't understand. Kyubey does all of the contracting for Magical Girls, right? He said he didn't recognize Homura at all, so I'm pretty positive at this point that it's she aged herself, like how you stated, Spidey. Also, because he didn't recognize her, it could mean that she's one of his future contracts, so he hasn't met her yet in this actual timeline (before this Homura time-hopped to this timeline).
How Homura reacted and cried really makes me wonder about her relationship with Madoka, I'm leaning towards the possibility that it's a close friend of Madoka that she met after Madoka became a Magical Girl in the original timeline. This would make the best sense for me, because imagining Homura being Madoka's mother is a bit . . . too much. Meh. We'll see how everything goes.
Theories:
a) Mother, younger because of time-manipulation powers (from another timeline)
b) Close friend she met in another timeline
c) Cat?

We don't know if Kyubey's the only one. For all we know, the black cat is a contractor as well, and possibly has different terms of agreement. Kyubey never said if he did or didn't contract with Homura, but he was cryptic when Kyouko asked him. If I recalled he said "maybe I did maybe I didn't" perhaps implying he knows that he did, but certainly not in their own timeline. Don't think it exactly points to her aging herself though, she could easily be from just a few weeks into the future, not like she'd need to alter her age to make herself seem like a teenager.
Also, you're missing the lover possibility! How could you when this series has so many yuri shippers watching it!!?!

Moar Madoka Spoiler Speculation
I'd like to think Mami is still alive. Charlotte may have nommed her head off but like Kyubei said, the soul is in the gem to allow for a replacement body after death. (or magical repairs)
I think Homura has her soul gem, when she 1st fights charlotte, she appears to have teleported away during the 1st bite attempt; but before she reappears we hear an unusual gurgle, THEN she reappears. Homura might have gotten it right then.
I also believe Homura is set on saving both the magical girls AND the witches. After all we never actually see her use grief seeds in all of this time, and she refuses the time she was offered. and like you guys noticed she does have information on some of the witches... she might just be collecting them to save them and doesn't wish to corrupt them more. She's basically like Sayaka but wise enough to conserve herself as we all know. Would explain why she uses physical weapons though she has access to magical offense which we see when she's chasing kyubei in the 1st ep.
Though obviously her priority is the surviving magical girls, so she will offer the same seeds to them to keep them from corruption. and like mentioned, she didn't have a problem with killing sayaka for the cause either because all she has to do is just take her soul gem and keep it safe.
So... why did Kyuubey tell Homura and co. that Mami was about to be corrupted? If his goal is really to get witches, what does he have to gain from telling them that?

This show is some pretty insane Yuri-bait. Have you guys seen /u/ lately? There's at least 4 threads that are image-capped. I am support. Not sure what my favorite ship is off the top of my head though.
