First gun.

I don't know how many people on here own a gun, but I thought I would ask anyways. I'm turning 21 in March and I'm looking to get a hand gun for have some fun with. I'm willing to spend $500 on it. This gun will be used for self-defense as well as recreational use (shooting for fun). Does anyone have some good gun suggestions? I'm looking at the CZ 75 compact at the moment.

EDIT~ I understand that a gun is NOT a toy and should be taken very seriously, but that does not take away from the fact that they are fun to shoot. I am doing my own research on gun safety and the different kinds of guns, so I am not a n00b when I go to purchase a firearm.

Glock 19?

I've been suggested Glocks, but they just look too ugly in my opinion. Too boxy, and they have a reputation of firing if dropped.... I've fired a glock and didn't really like it, but that was also my first time firing a gun. I might give it another try when I get the chance.

My first gun I want to own, a revolver. 8 shot capacity would be nice, but I'm not really picky.
Don't want a magnum though. Not for a first gun.

Glock 22 and 23. Good way to go for about that price range.

What's the problem?

We had a public vote about people being able to have guns (with licenses) in Brazil. In the end the majority was for, a people without guns can easily be pushed without resistance and will just become victim of abusers who will have a gun either way (legal or not).

I think you missed the part that the pistol will also serve as self-defense. I'm living by myself in a place that I'm fairly unfamiliar with. I moved down here 5 weeks ago for a co-op, so I'm still fairly new. The location is a little bit out in the country and it is awesome to live in, but you never know what will happen.

In regards to "having fun", I'm just going to be shooting metal targets set up in a large field or go down the the firing range. I don't see a problem with that. As long as you practice gun safety, there shouldn't be a problem. Besides, what good is a firing range if you can't use it?

What point are you trying to make? Would it be different if he was practicing using a crossbow? Or a katana? Or his fists?

My point on the firing range is that it was made so people can safely fire their guns for entertainment. A gun will not fire itself unless someone pulls the trigger or mishandles it. As long as the person can safely use a firearm, no one will get hurt.

Thanks for the cool video, but automatic pistols are not allowed for civilians. However, you did remind me to take a look at the Beretta M9
