One of my friends in California said there has been winter storms there recently, and the weather across the west has been pretty bad a whole. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a weather related power outage.

I doubt it has anything to do with weather. From what I've looked at nothing out of the ordinary weather has occurred there.

Hmmm...You might be correct. Player -> Login server, then Login server connects you to game servers, so you don't have to go through the login servers. Left with Player -> game servers.

There was a 1.2 magnitude earthquake 6 hours ago. Not only is it an incredibly low magnitude, but it was several hours before it went down. I can't imagine it was the cause.

Maybe it was a cause to shut the servers down for the time being to back up information? I don't know all predictions, it'll be explained eventually.

A 1.2 earthquake is less of a tremor than you moving the server back-and-forth physically.
