2line or 3line potentials

How is it determined how many lines a potential equip has? Is it in the item code that stats somewhere if it will be a 2line or 3line? So no matter what, that's how many lines it will be. Or is it random, and the outcome is determined upon magnifying it. If it is the latter, at what % more rare is 3line to 2line.

One of the reasons why I ask is because lately I have been buying no pot vss and potential scrolling them in hopes for a 3line, but so far all but one were 2lines (I have done around 6). So my question is, if in fact the amount of lines an equip gets is already determined and is in the code somewhere, is it possible for someone to know before hand if the item will get 2lines or 3lines? If so, I might as well stop buying clean vss because probably the people who sell them already know they are 2lined, and it's not worth it to buy+potential them.

I believe it's entirely random whether it's one, two or three.

I think someone estimated that items have a 20% chance somewhere to be 3 lines. According to my own revealing of potential this seems to be fairly accurate.

(If you mean GMS, no you have not found any 1 line equipments. =P)

Yeah, I haven't found anything in GMS. In KMST (pre Big Bang) /JMST/JMS, I've found tons of one-line potential equipment.

And that's pretty... bad, lowers your chance of even getting 3 lines on something.

Though we can easily conclude that 2 lines is a more common outcome.

Being able one line equips would suck lol. It's hard enough getting all my equips to three lines.
