I don't know, I tried the new ryze but I liked the old one better.
The shorter time in the ultimate is really noticeable, same for the trade of AP for Spell Vamp. Also, he's as squishy as it gets, I would always get focused and killed in 2 hits, maybe my item build wasn't right but it's a very simillar build to what I use on Heim, who is also squishy (Tear > shoes > Arc. Staff) but I rarely die with Heim. Anyway, if I play it again, I would start with a catalyst into RoA, then tear and then a banshee's...

It seems like the best route so far to go with ryze is this.

Mana crystal->tear asap
boots->mpen boots
Haunting guise
Rod of Ages
Lichbane

Running 9/0/21 masteries and going for mpen reds/mana regen per level yellows/cooldown blues/ and hp quints.
of course things are situational and I might try doing a soulstealer in there too sometime.

The Digital Collector's Pack gives you the most bang for your buck by far.

Also, I've been hearing that Maokai is best played not full tank, but tank/support. And he consumes mana heavily. However, his AP scaling is bad, not great if one is playing caster on him. I will try to test him out today and get a feel of how he's really played (will play tanky on him)

Also there's a difference to buying an item that helps your champion somewhat and buying something retarded. Abyssal and rylai help amumu dealing damage and slowing enemies and surviving more. No matter if there are better items and that his job isn't to deal damage they help, meki pendant doesnt help any of them.

What if Will has more fun building amumu with some AP items? Should he drop having fun for the sake of doing what is the very best? No. He should have fun.

GreyorGrey, I can tell you're serious. Sometimes, you're too serious to the point where you offend quite a few people that are in this thread. I even find some of your posts a bit disdainful. First of all, why bash on people who like to toy with what builds they are following to see what happens? You're not playing my account. You are you. You are not me. Why worry? As long the build doesn't go way off of what is expected for the champion, then I don't see a problem with me building a tanky DPS out of Amumu (with a couple of AP items). And plus, I tested it out just yesterday and now I know what I have to do if I ever go tanky DPS with Amumu. What about you? You only speak of it in theory, but testing it live and seeing what it could for yourself is a drastic difference.

Go and mock me all you want for doing what I'm doing for Amumu. But I can say with confidence that I have the basic foundations for playing Amumu, and now I'm simply exploring Amumu a bit more by toying around with builds. We have our serious sides when we play LoL, but sometimes we like to joke around. One example is when we get together and play Bravery matches. Fun stuff, and we have a lot of fun despite the fact we have a high chance of losing due to the crazy builds that "Bravery" games require.

That you can't try and do something for fun and alter your build. You can't open your mind and grasp that people might enjoy a champion more building him another way. Some people build AP MF because they have fun that way. I guess games aren't meant for fun in your book?

Well to be honest you are right. I would do bravery matches and I do play matches for fun, but those are all custom matches. I play ARAM, ARAZ, Bravery matches but I don't do them in normal games. Normal games are only fun if they are one of two things in my opinion, either a really tight close game that one mistake decides the outcome of the match either we win or lose and i'll still have enjoyed myself or win through building appropriately pub-stomp or not winning is fun in my definition. So you can feel sorry for me all you want I don't care. Rylai helps amumu because of his cry true but abyssal should never be on an amumu's build idc what you want to say there's tons of items that do what abyssal would do fo him and much more. Also like you said luxury is cause you want to so yeah I wanna get meki pendent on my akali/kennen my luxury, derp.

Manamune does seem like an alright idea. I've played a few games with him and noticed a few things:

Overload is really strong.
Spell Flux kinda blows.
Rune Prison is buggy. If you're chasing a target, and they're at the edge of your range, Ryze will stop, do the casting animation, but the spell won't go off. If you put W on smartcast and mash it as you're chasing someone he does this stupid seizure walk and it ends up slowing you right down.

Building AP on Ryze is fairly worthless now. He scales better off of mana, and with that comes plenty of tanky builds and some CDR. Hell, someone on the official forums suggested building Manamune on him, and I actually agree with it.

Finally starting to play well again, I had a series of games where I just sucked... now I've finished some games with low deaths, high assists and ok kills.

Last time me and Kaj and a couple others played on our main accounts (well, Kaj was smurfing, but 3-4 of us were on our main accounts), our opponents quickly figured us out and quickly went nuts on us. So to get the "full experience", it would be best if you could do it on your low-level accounts or something like that lol.
