Tell (tweet) Nexon that We Want Authenticators NOW!!

Couple questions about authenticators and, ummm, ToS-breaking common practices:
- Can the same physical device or phone number be used for more than one account? (Multiple accounts for one person)
- Can two authenticators be used for the same account? (Shared accounts)

1) Depends on how Nexon configures it, but yes.
2) If the two authenticators are identical clones, yes.

As long as the system is optional, then it sounds great.

If there is an option to request clones in case of loss that would be great too, as long as it's secure. Though I realize this is an exploitable loophole, it seems to be amazingly time consuming for a random hacker to attempt, when it may or may not pay out for them. And all that work and they still need your id/password.

Anyway, I'm all for it, and I see no downside.

I've been playing this game for 6 years and the only time I was hacked is when I decided to experiment with hacks and lost my Chief Bandit on an alternate account, but this thread makes it seem as if hackers have the capability to hack other players without them leasing any of their info.

I rarely worry about Nexon, except of course in the case during last years random hackings which was obviously their fault. I do worry about hotmail/gmail and other public email providers and I also worry about maple forums. It's not hard in this day and age to find an email related to maple, find facebooks/other social sites used by that email, then via IP tagging and the shitty password recovering systems most mail providers have, be able to impersonate you and hijack an email.

Once they have your email, everything is compromised.

If you live totally un branched from the internet other than maple, you don't have to worry. But alot of people have old accounts made years ago with characters they're not willing to give up. But as a bad habit ofcourse, they have reused the same mail and the same usernames everywhere on the internet.

My sisters' and I have been playing for nearly 5 years now and only one of us got hacked, and that was due to the Sleepywood incident when an admin account got compromised, thus exposing one of my emails that said sister was using at the time.
Regardless, I've never been hacked in WoW either, yet I still have an authenticator on my Blizzard account as backup security / protection. I'd instantly do the same if Nexon offered a similar variation.

The idea of an Authenticator is great, I've already tweeted about it twice, and am urging friends to do the same. As the OP said, we can only get questions answered, or things to happen if we demand for it. We may not realize it, but we've got significant power as a community if we just work together.

I'm not too gun-ho about the computer/IP recognition, because I sometimes like to maple in Starbucks, or in other places so my IP changes. I also frequently like to play around with different computers, and you also have to realize some people share computers to play, so you have to be mindful of all the demographics.

I'd definitely like a pink authenticator. Or at least sew together a fuzzy pink sleeve for it or something.

I would gladly pay $6, $12, even up to $50 for additional protection.


The only thing I wish Nexon would really fix is the ability to change your email account. I'm not entirely keen on using public accounts, but since my accounts are nearly 5 years old now, it was the only option I had.

i was a WoW player,, and you can't get that in the tryal! you must pay the monthy fee to start getting those Auntheticators!

Uhh.... WoW (the only game I can think of with optional authenticators) only charges for the shipping of the device. There's no monthly fee attached to the authenticator.

Please research it a bit before you draw a conclusion.

Lose profits? LOSE PROFITS? How exactly? Buying an authenticator only increases Nexon revenue. Also last I checked, Blizz's auth. never came with a "monthly fee" catch attached to it.

Seriously, what's with people not wanting extra security in Maple all of a sudden? People used to complain about lack there of, now people are complaining about too much protection from said item? This is the x2 card debacle all over again, in a different form...

I'd rather have this not be implented since I don't have access to the email of the account. I got this account from a friend after the europe block and I never got the email and now we lost contact. He never did anything on it aside from creating a lvl 10 character and a lvl 14 character or so and I've been playing on this account for 2,5 years now while I also have 4 120+ characters. Would rather not lose that.

You wouldn't lose anything unless you went out of your way to purchase and activate an authenticator for the account.

I'm guessing it's related to the cost of buying this security feature from whatever provider they would get it from. There's bound to be a fee associated with it, of course they can just pass this fee on to the consumer and probably tack on a bit for their troubles as well.

I think the guy you were replying to is taking this to mean we want it for every account not just as an additional option for extra security if you should choose to utilize it.

You don't have to figure out the logistics, Nexon does.
All you need to do is support it, or not and let them work out how they can offer it.

Besides, MSEA has it. So it's obviously possible Nexon AM can.
