It's okay to raise your standards, bro.

I don't think this is entirely true. Different stuff appeals to different people, and there's no true one size-fit-all for people you could consider otaku. There are some otaku who really do eat up anything, but I don't think this is the majority.

In my opinion, it's good to be open minded with the bottom-line of if you're enjoying watching/reading whatever it may be or not. It's alright to have a few guilty pleasures. I do agree that it's important to not take in everything, however; you shouldn't push yourself to watch something you obviously don't find good and get bored or dislike watching.

KaidaTan Wrote:I have not seen Rio, but that doesn't sound pleasant. I mean, anime is generally meant for entertainment, right? Usually that's done by interesting, funny, or thought provoking stories (not necessarily one over-arching story, could be episodic stories). What you just said about Rio is akin to a movie selling on special effects alone. That's not to say that there isn't a market for it and that it isn't fun to watch in its own way, but how on earth does that make it "above average"? Is it really that easy for anything to be above average in your book? The hell is average? And below average?

You say I like too little, but I say you like too much.

Theres really little to the story. Its basically play "games", win, get special cards, and idk what. I keep watching cause it has some funny bits in it. That and its basically fanservice.

I have high standards in too many things. Also, I rate things differently than others it seems.

Right, it isn't entirely true. Than again, most of the Otaku-related sites I frequently visit/browse are places involving figurines, or for competitive games. Maybe that's why some of the ones there are like "OMG I LIKE EVERYTHING I WATCH SO KAWAII >W<". Though, I must admit that I've befriended some online that are very serious in regards to which series they like or dislike. They'll actually give specific reasons too, and it's not stuff like:

"[insert name here] is a great character, thus this entire series is awesome."

BLASPHEMY.

In fact, quite a lot of my friends IRL = like that. They like everything they watch, or the majority of everything they watch. They're not Otaku, but still, I just cringe. I won't say anything about it though, because everyone has different tastes. No point in arguing.

But on a serious note, I am rather open-minded on trying out most things. Though, usually, my intuition is accurate in regards to my tastes, which is why I sort of lean away from certain anime.

No, it's more like people like things you don't like and therefore you feel as if they like anything that you feed them. Just the fact that there's so much trolling going on on different anime forums about what show is good and what is shit is proof enough that this statement is entirely invalid. People have different tastes from you. Perhaps you're growing out of stuff you used to like.

Some stuff I see people complain about has been stuff that could even be found in anime from the 90's, but you just don't notice it as easily because of the way it's presented, or you weren't looking out for it at the time you were watching because it didn't matter to you back then. Of course, there's also more of an abundance of slice of life shows with cutesy girls living their cutesy day to day lives than there were before, but it's not as if this stuff is something new.

I feel it sounds more like you're forcing yourself to point out stuff that you dislike about series rather than just sitting back and enjoying like you used to. Maybe you're not giving the lesser known shows of the series that you may actually like any attention.

If you really have a problem with recent series, why not dig through old ones that have long been completed then? I'm sure there are tons of them you'd like and haven't seen yet, but you don't bother because you're too busy "disliking" the newer stuff.'

Might be why, bro. Maybe you need to stop hanging around Gaia.

You have a point there. Anime nowadays are made to attract a different audience in comparison to back then. IMO, back then, there were more mecha based stuff in comparison to now, and like you stated, there are more Slice-of-Life stuff. I don't care about the cutesy stuff, I can watch that. I don't think I ever complained about something being cute. Maybe everything just seems like a rehash of something else to me now, dunno. I should start tracing back my steps and watch older stuff, then progress or something. I don't really bother to say "LOL YOU WATCH ___, YOU HAVE SH`IT TASTES." in other forums, but I do read just because I'm slightly open-minded.

I'm guessing this is a joke? I don't browse the forums on that site. I've mentioned this several times. I was referring to SmashBoards, Figure.Fm, Otaku.Fm, MyFigureCollection, and etc.

It was a joke based on the fact that you've mentioned Gaia before.

I was kinda pumped that I got a snowday but now that I know Fractale 4 stream is delayed because funimation's headquarters in Texas has been closed 3 days due to ice, I fucking hate this storm. Goddammit.

I would wait and download the subbed version from UTW, its way better quality than the funimation stream and horriblesubs (who rips the funimation stream).

I have no patience. Also, some self-righteous pomegranate about wanting to support a good show or some pomegranate. Yeah. However that argument works.

Either actual snow, or heavy rains + freezing temperatures, leading to lots and lots of ice.

Well I was expecting a longer fight, but it's fine. Some interesting bits of information revealed this episode.

All speculation though. Possible SHAFT was just throwing in SUPAH COOL FX and being lazy with animation.

Hourou Musuko 4: Chiba tries to suppress the rage inside, but it cannot be contained. On a serious note, I like how the characters can all admit their feelings for each other and have the story go from there, unlike shows like Kimi ni Todoke where the whole show revolves around them not being able to express their feelings (I still like KnT too though).

Fractale 4
