Maple and Windows XP
#1
Okay so here's the deal, as far as I can remember I've been on WXP and nothing else and never wanted to upgrade to anything else because of Maple and the issues with Bossing. And ever since I can remember I've never had a SINGLE problem with Bossing on my computer but as of the other day I was forced to do a re-format of my computer so after installing, everything was the exact same like it was before I had to re-format, Windows XP Pro, SP2, you name it nothing was different besides having a lot more free space.

Now here's the problem, ever since I did this format and I've gone to solo HT or HT in a group to gain a spot after the SC once I get to main fight it all goes down from there. The majority of the HT parts dissapear on and off and some menu's are transparent so I would change graphics once and everything would be okay. But now it's only getting worse, it's starting to glitch even worse right at the beginning and now my Maple will freeze and the sound will either lap over and over for a single second or the sound will just completely stop and I'm forced to end through Task Manager.

I have tried everything from upgrading any and all drivers I have, checked for windows updates as much as I can and even tried again after upgrading to SP3 and as far as I know EVERYTHING is the EXACT same as it was before but now I'm to the point where I can't even Boss. If anyone could shed some light on this or give me advice or anything it would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks in advance.

Edit: If anyone needs to know any system specs about my computer or anything like that just post/ask and I'll do what I can.

The reason why its disappearing is because Maple updated their engine to DX9, which makes bosses disappear no matter what OS you have.

Not sure if I quite agree with that one there. If it did disappear for everyone then nobody could be doing any boss runs at all.

I don't have that issue either but, I'm sorry I can't come up with any good advice. If changing the quality from time to time whenever the boss starts glitching doesn't help then I'm not sure what else you can do. Well, hopefully as you've said, someone could shed some light on what to do.

Try go into your "device manager" -> hardware -> sound & audio controllers (expand) -> disable your sound card hardware... restart comp and try run maple

False. Bosses flickering =/= disconnection. Every time i zak he flickers, and i rarely D/C on a solo zak run.

Thank-you everyone for all the replies and trying to help, you have no idea how much I appreciate it, on a very nice and super bright note I believe I have found out what exactly the problem was. I was thinking back to when I finished formatting my computer and when I was going to install my video drivers and everything, everytime it would get to the video card driver for some reason my PC would automatically reboot itself and I couldn't understand why. So what I did was go to the official site and entered a few things to find my driver and I thought I did, installed, restarted etc and everything was fine, WELL, when I went into my device manager to check my display driver it was a 5570 and MY driver is a 5500! This clearly should explain so much so all and all I uninstalled everything and tried my luck installing from the CD all over again and sure enough everything worked, once it rebooted I went straight to my device manager and it was back to the original 5500 driver.

I will give an update later after I do some bossing and see if my issue is fixed, once again thank-you everyone for the help and support.

Ever since Maple updated to DX9 I haven't disconnected once. Neither at horntail, zakum, or any boss without the need of changing graphics.

There is an issue with the way MapleStory's engine uses audio data in high capacity areas like bosses. There is currently nothing that can be done. Since upgrading to DX9 in graphics, all XP, Vista, and 7 based operating systems experience the same issues now.

As you've said "rarely" so then what if you take 2hrs in there? Also, have you tested this at chaos zakum? In any case, I have no flicker issues, and no disconnection issues. More often than not though, most people tell me thats a warning for a possible dc if you don't change any settings beforehand or afterwards at all.

Not once have I ever had a single problem in all my time playing MS on WXP even after Big Bang everything was the same. It only all changed when I re-formatted but as I said I'm 150% sure I found out the problem, will post back later tonight with results.

Edit: Just did HT and even though I didn't DC or freeze or have the music overlap or stop or anything like that by the time I killed the Legs the Wings and Left Arm were poofing in and out until dead. Just incase I changed graphics everytime a body part died and made sure to kill the 2 parts when they weren't invisible and made it through the run without any problems, I don't think I had to change graphics or anything but overall it went well. Although I AM still on SP3 so tonight I'm going to system restore and go back to SP2 and try again. Smile

I have the same problems. Can I ask you the exact time you change your graphics when doing a run? Also, could an internet connection have anything to do with problems with disconnecting in boss runs? Because I've tried HT on 4 different computers now, all XP, all with different graphic cards, and aside from the normal spam hack, I have disconnected on all of them.

ATM I'm only changing from high - low and low - high when each body part dies, nowhere else like anytime in pre-heads or upon summoning but I never had to do anything at all which I'm hoping will be the case now that I've downgraded back to SP2.

Edit: Well, just did a run this morning while on SP2 now and although it seemed to be better then SP3 I had like 2 body parts poof in and out but wasn't as bad as it was before. Everytime I would kill a body part my ket settings would be transparent so I would change graphics once and it would be fine again, by the time I killed the parts that were poofing in and out everytime I killed something else I didn't have to do anything any there were no transparent problems or anything. Looks like I'm just going to have to get used to this even though there SHOULDN'T be any problems with XP and I never had any problems before I reformatted..

I have now found out that I DC at CWKPQ.....-_- I've gone through EVERYTHING on my computer a million pineappleing times and EVERYTHING is exactly the same and there are no changes so what the pineapple is going on. Everyone that I know that has XP doesn't and hasn't had any issues and neither did I before I reformatted, so what the pineapple.

I've never gone to a czak and lasted past 1st arm death. My point was that flickering = a warning, not a sure fire "you will D/C".

You HAVE to disable the sound card and restart MapleStory. Using audio devices at a major boss (Zakum , Horntail, CWKPQ, etc.) will cause MapleStory to inadvertently cause a buffer overflow (memory leak) after it gets past using 500 megabytes of memory addressing space. NOTHING can be done to prevent it. DEP disabling/ignoring will still cause the game to glitch and shutdown. Adding extra swap buffer space using the BCDEDit repair fix or editing Boot.ini to add extra swap buffer space will not prevent the glitch and will still shutdown the game.
