Black Swan.

I don't think I can rave to my satisfaction about this movie.

It left me literally speechless after seeing it.

I felt the need to share and discuss this and wasn't sure if this thread belonged in this section until i thought about how grounbreaking and masterfully done this movie was.

I almost hope i have nightmares.

I recommend anyone who likes movies, dance, anything choreographed to music, drama, and/or thematic masterpieces go see this in theaters. It is a big picture production and should really be enjoyed that way. For the first time ever i am considering paying for a movie in theaters twice.

Discuss/break me out of my stunned awe.

If you don't or ever didn't "get" inception, consider ignoring all of the above.

It was an ok movie, but hardly as mindtwisting as Inception (did not find that particularly hard to grasp either). I find the lead actress Natalie Portman to be a tad stiff in her acting, but I guess that it fit the part (for once). Decent movie if you have nothing better to watch and/or feel like watching something not so mainstream.

7 to 3 on it beating out inception for the oscar and at the very least portman coming down with best female lead. The conceptual metaphor of the whole thing has to be exactly what the writer wanted it to be, and that is not common.

Portman already won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role as Nina in the film.

Also, I completely agree with OP. I saw Inception for the first time a few days ago, and Black Swan the night after, and while Inception was a phenomenal movie (amazing special effects, cinematography, and, obviously, a brilliantly mind blowing plot), it was something I could see once and say "okay, I get it. Cool story, glad I know it." But ultimately I felt like it had a lot of similarities to movies like The Matrix trilogy, Shutter Island, and even Secret Window; in other words, I felt it expanded upon the theme of psychological thriller by including sci-fi elements, but in the end it wasn't unbelievably groundbreaking as I would have hoped (again, I was already making connections to The Matrix while watching it for the first time).

Black Swan, on the other hand, is definitely a film I'd love to see a second time in theatres as well (if only I had a theatre accessible to me here at school). While the plot is not as elaborately constructed as that of Inception, the precision in capturing the spectrum of human emotion not just in Natalie Portman's character, but across the cast of characters as well, and to deliver that sensation to the audience through the powerfully beautiful works of Tchaikovsky...it's definitely something of its own.

tl;dr: Absolutely loved Black Swan, and hopes it wins Best Picture, but I'd be fine with something like Inception winning if it doesn't.

This movie was AMAZING. i saw it the first time and was like wtp did i just see? (in a good way). I was confused to the max, but when i learned the story for the metaphor, it all made sense. I did not expect the ending (will not reveal duh.) mostly because i didn't know the story that the story is based on before hand. I'd want to see it again (and would recommended that people see it as well).

Inception was an equally awesome movie. I find it funny that i wasn't the only one who went: lol supposedly confusing movie like inception gaiz!

I like these types of movies. It keeps the audience at attention looking for what's real and what's not. It makes you think and it's not just mind numbing ExPLosIonZZZZZZZZ and BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

I watched it twice, and it was an awesome movie. I was actually really shocked by the ending. That said, I stilly prefer Darren Aronofsky for Requiem For a Dream. I haven't seen his other movies, but these 2 movies are definitely 2 of my favorites.

I just watched this movie, I knew nothing about it except for 3 things:
-It was nominated for Oscars
-Natalie Portman was in it
-It had to do with ballet

So, I was expecting a simple movie, maybe some sort of romantic thing about the beautiful girl and ballet and blah blah, didn't really want to watch it much, but my mom wanted so I agreed.
After I finished my only reaction was "What did I just watch", I am still very confused, specially about the last parts of the movie, I'll probably watch it again sometime soon.

My sister wanted to watch it, but after reading a review in Time of it, I advised her not to see it. She's 14.

She might get creeped/grossed out in some parts. Also, some minor sexual stuff is involved.

Good movie, my girlfriend dragged me to see it. I enjoyed it, but I'd only watch it again if I had nothing else to watch.

It was okay. I liked the effects and story, that was it. I didn't see anything else that made it stand out, personally. I don't like movies like these though, personally. So I'm probably biased. Went on a date with a chick to see this movie like.. maybe 3 weeks ago? Something like that. It was an enjoyable movie, I'd watch it again if there was nothing to watch, as Loose stated.

One of the few movies both my wife and I wanted to see.
I thought it was really well done though i don't have any ballet background so can't really assess that aspect of it. Loved the character development.

Not as mind twisting as Inception but these are two completely different movies and I don't think that's a knock on Black Swan.
Unfortunately I think this is a one and done for me though, I don't think I can take much more out of a second watching and didn't hit me hard enough to have it become a favorite.
All in all a good movie though, definitely worth the price of admission.

to clarify something i'm not comparing the movie to inception in anyway, that was just a way to weed out people incapable of forming their own opinion on something.

Anyone seen this yet?

I saw it on Wednesday. One word: amazing.

Nothing was overdone in it. It was a perfect mix of thriller and drama.

GO SEE IT. If that doesn't make you go see it, Natalie Portman masturbates in it.
